Beware The Eyes That Paralyse! Village Of The Damned & Children Of The Damned.

Ойын-сауық

Based on John Wyndham's 1957 novel The Midwich Cuckoos, Village Of The Damned (1960) and Children Of The Damned (1964) are two horror movies that look at the creepiness of children. A very different kind of alien invasion. Village stars George Sanders and Barbara Shelley, Children Ian Hendry and Alan Badel. Each speaks to a different mid-20th Century fear.
They're really worth checking out and can be seen as master classes in how to do creepy, suspenseful horror on relatively low budgets.

I only just found out Clive Powell who played Paul in COTD also played the younger David in VOTD ( uncredited).

I love this period in British film making, and these two sit nicely with other scifi/supernatural horror made at the time, such as Curse of the Demon, Night of the Eagle, The Innocents & The Haunting. Thanks again Terry.

COTD is a very good classic film and fun to watch over and over. VOTD was OK as the children never really communicated or made an effort to be understood. All they did was stare. I thought the two men were were just roommates but now in retrospect, yeah, they were a couple. Both films are classic 60s horror.

Great video! When I was younger, I hated creepy kid movies because they made me so uncomfortable. It all started for me with the Twilight Zone episode where a young Billy Mumy sends bad adults to the cornfield. Then I finally realized that was the point! So I went back to them and enjoyed that uncomfortable feeling. Evil or just coldly logical uncaring kids are terrifying! Were you tempted to include These Are The Damned (1962), where Oliver Reed yells at a little boy, "Don't you understand? You're poison!" Stay safe Terry, and Sally, and the kitties!

Thanks David. Yeah, These Are The Damned is great, but in that one the scientists are the monsters. You stay safe, too, mate.

It didn't even occur to me that the two scientists in Children of the Damned were a couple. The part of that movie that stuck out for me was the UN delegation being shot by its own troops. Do you have any plans to review Joseph Losey's These Are the Damned, with MacDonald Carey and Oliver Reed?

Been ages since I've seen those and do need to give them a re-watch. As for Bad Seed, definitely cover it. It's is one of my favorites that I usually watch around Halloween. I also enjoy the Made for TV version from 1985. Not quite on the same level and much less scene scene chewing except for Lynn Redgrave.

I say that with VOTD and COTD, given they were both black and white I do not think either of these two films should ever be colourised like some of the old black and white films have been. I also say the VOTD and COTD, are both really good and despite the awful and appalling remake of the first film in the 1990s I touch wood and hope the second film does not suffer a remake in colour in the US like the first one sadly did. I also do wonder what Clive Powell who played the leader of these alien, children Paul looks like today. I noticed he has not acted, in anything since COTD, I would imagine he quit acting and went to do something where he would have a regular job and income.

Child actors often don't have a smooth path. It's not surprising so many find other ways to live in adulthood.

Children of the Damned was an awesome film, and the actors in it were awesome and how I wish I could have been born either in 1964 or even 1960 or even born in the 1950s instead of been born in the late 1960s in 1969. I also did not like the remake of the Village of the Damned and also I do not think a remake of Children of the Damned should be made either never fix what i not broken.

I personally think the ET thing kind of hurts the movie. I feel it would have a little more edge if it just had that more mysterious approach.

It still has mystery. We know nothing about the aliens except that they can knock people out and knock women up with god-tier babies.
