Thanks for helpful brand lists. Since Staedtler Mastercarve stopped being made, my favorite rubber to carve is called Safety-Kut, and comes from a company called Nasco. Firm, lasts a long time, very pleasant to carve.

Thanks for this really helpful video. I'm a grandma who last carved in my youth on lino. It's a massive help to have some-one save me from buying bad products. Can I just mention that as some-one who has slight hearing problems, the background music is quite distracting and as you have such a lovely soothing voice I don't think you need it. I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to many more videos!

I’ve always been interested in carving but never bought any tools yet. I was very happy to see your very informative video. At least now I know what to stay away from. It was fun to watch you carve with the different tools. Thank you for helping all of us newbies out.

I’m currently carving on a Milan block that’s very similar to the speedy cut and I was wondering why it was so awful, or if all bigger blocks from the popular brands were the same. Glad to know that it wasn’t my technique (I was even thinking that I needed to sharpen my tools, even if using a brand new blade), the material is just bad. I was so used to the Daiso blocks (I bought a lot before I left Japan), but I wanted larger sizes and it was my first time using this material. I’ll try to look for the ‘sandwich’ one, since what I liked from the Daiso one was the different colors that showed me how deep I was carving. Thank you so much for the review!

Thank you for the awesome video, and the tremendous heads up on speedy cut. I'm new to carving, and would have been so bummed to have my mini masterpiece just crumble in my hands!!!

I feel so much better. Thought it was me, but the material is falling apart before I'd finished carving. Even the cheap craft foam from the dollar store worked better. Thanks!

So many carvers have early experience with this stuff - so crumbly! If you can find the Speedy Carve (it's pink), it is a much much better carving experience :)

Starting to watch your videos. Earlier on the video you mentioned Daiso, I wonder what are your thoughts about their silicone mats? They are about 3 to 4 mm thick and about 20 x 24 mm (length x width) of surface area. This is for a project where the stamp is used to imprint on shrinky dink plastics.

The video is really interesting. Please consider using the music only for your intro. It is really loud and it's difficult to hear you. At 3:03 it stopped (yay) but withing seconds it started up again.

I think speedy cut is a great beginners block, when you're just practicing how to use the carving knife or different tools, and practice random shapes or letters

Hi, thanks for your video. I'm interested in the hedgehog material - I think you called it Dyso (?). Unfortunately amazon doesn't ship to Australia so the link didn't help. Googling Dyso didnt get me anywhere either. Can I get the name or another link please. Thanks!

Tina Neillings - the material is called Eraser Stamp and it is sold by a Japanese 100 Yen shop called Daiso, so it's not readily sold online. You're lucky though - I think there are Daisos in Australia!

Hi Janice! The two green materials in this video are the "Seed" brand (one layer of green on white) and a chinese "sandwich" type material that is green on both sides and white in the centre. There is a link to both of these materials in the video description - happy carving!

Speedy Cut was my first carving material and I almost stopped entirely because I hated it so much. It's so brittle! I'm sure it has its uses but it did not work for the small, detailed kind of stamp I was looking for.

Speedycut is for use with watersoluable products. Perhaps your transfer medium is ruining the product before you even start to carve.

That's a good thought! Unfortunately, this stuff starts pilling and crumbling as soon as you open the packaging. My very first carving was on this material with a pencil transfer and the stamp crumbled to dust :(

Omg! Please, please remove the background music. It's so annoying. I and other people who want to watch your videos are there to learn. I'm prepared to listen to what you have to say. I have my own music. Now I am struggling to hear you. There seems to be some KZread content creator Trend and it's a really annoying one .
