Beverly Hills Cop (1984) ✦ Reaction & Review ✦ 🎵 Axel F will be stuck in my head for years 😂

Ойын-сауық

So THIS is where the Crazy Frog remix is originally from?! This is a movie reaction to my first time watching Beverly Hills Cop, released in 1984 and directed by Martin Brest. Dr. Doolittle and Dick Jones going after Mike Ehrmantraut's boss?! Great cast, GREAT humour, great action. Eddie Murphy shines as the lead in this and had me laughing so hard from start to finish. What a fun little story and I'm interested in checking out the sequels. Make sure to stick around to the end of this video for my full thoughts and review and thank you so much for watching! What's insane is, Eddie is only 22 here. And in "48 Hours", his first hit, he was like 19 or 20.. yet he was able to play at least 10 years older by force of his charisma and sheer attitude. Add to that that by this point he'd 1) saved a floundering Saturday Night Live almost single handedly 2) had one of the most sucessful comedy albums and concert films ever and 3) starred in another hit, Trading Places with Dan Ackroyd. He was unstoppable in this era.

The sequel, Beverly Hills Cop II (1987) is a definite must-react movie. It was made by the Tony Scott/Bruckheimer clan (they made Top Gun) so the action, comedy, and hilarity are all dialed up to 11.

Fun Fact: Axel Foley was originally written as a Sylvester Stallone movie and a straight Ford action flick, but then, when Eddie Murphy was brought on board, it was rewritten to fit his comedy style. Given the film, it worked out for the best.

Fast talking 80's Eddie Murphy is a whole vibe. He can run his mouth like no one else. I do enjoy the sequel more (the chemistry is already in place, with beautiful Tony Scott visuals/direction). The third is ok (Serge' returns), but not on the level of 1&2.

Eddie and his wife ended up having 8 kids (yes, EIGHT lol) so thru the 2000s he did a lot of kid and family films (Dr. Doolittle, Daddy Day Care and Shrek) but he also did a epic Musical "Dreamgirls" in 2006 and in 2019 returned to Rated R comedy called "Dolomite Is My Name" based on the true story of 70s action/comedy star Rudy Ray Moore. Eddie's Beverly Hills Cop 4 was held up by strike and all that.... but should show up in 2024. Yes, I'm a HUGE fan of Eddie.

And I also tried to perfect "look man, I ain't fallin for no banana in mah tail pipe" As for watching the rest, yes... some would say the third one was bad, but I still liked it. Serge is played by Bronson Pinchot, who portrayed Balky Bartokomous from the TV series "Perfect Strangers". A series that is part of my growing up, loved that show. The Banana Man, Damon Wayans made his movie debut with this role. I would like to suggest The Last Boy Scout (1991) for a future movie.

I believe the movie was supposed to be more of a serious cop action movie, as Sylvester Stallone was originally approached to play Axel Foley. But after he turned down the role and Eddie Murphy signed on, the tone of the film changed to fit Murphy's comedic sensibilties. Murphy turned down the role of Winston in Ghostbusters to play Axel Foley. But things worked out well for everyone, as Ghostbusters and Beverly Hills Cop turned out to be the two biggest movies of 1984.

Great reaction, Kaiielle! I personally see this as the pinnacle of all Eddie Murphy movies, he was never better than in this part in this movie. Fun fact is that this was the beginning of the Don Simpson/Jerry Bruckheimer collaborations as producers of top movies. Eddie Murphy is fabulous as Axel Foley, and yes, that is one of the best names in movies. All of the other characters in this movie do a great job as well. One of my favorite moments is when Axel tells Rosewood & Taggart that the "Supercop Story" was working, and then we immediately see the look on Bogomils(Ronny Cox) face. Priceless! This is a great comedy/action film. From the cigarette truck, to the crappy blue Chevy Nova, to the banana in the tailpipe, to the Supercops, to H-10, to learning that the Chief can hear through the wall. Thank you, for reacting to this great Eddie Murphy flick, and yes AXEL F, is a great movie theme. Let me just say that I've seen Beverly Hills Cop II, and it is a significant drop off from this movie. Of course, you can decide that on your own. Thanks again.

That tough Detroit police inspector was played by a real-life tough Detroit police inspector, Gilbert Hill. He was later on Detroit's city council and ran for mayor (he didn't win). He told interviewers that in his real-life work, unlike in the movie, he seldom yelled and seldom swore. The song playing in the strip club is "Nasty Girl," composed by Prince and performed by the group Vanity 6. It was a hit in 1982 and beyond. The stripper Billy gave money to had the professional name of Mouse.

You've got quite the eye for character actors! Ronnie Cox (Lt. Bogomil) has played both heroes and villains in his long career, though most people would struggle to name him. He was a villain in Robocop, a hero here and a villain again in Total Recall. The first movie I can remember seeing him in, was Deliverance . Your "Robocop" reaction brought me here. It's great fun watching these with you. Billy Rosewood was played by Judge Reinhold-a mainstay of 80s movies. You really should watch "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" (If you haven't already, of course) It's a movie that launched a dozen careers. Was anybody funnier than Sean Penn as Jeff Spicoli? I've seen that movie fifty times and it's still hilarious. Anyway, think about it. Subbed!

🚓 (Per your request.)🚔 I've always liked this movie. It came out late in 1984, which was the year I moved out to LA. So, it was fun seeing locations. Of course, I only passed through Beverly Hills occasionally. Almost never actually stopped there. (I left LA in 88, and have only been back a few times since. I miss the weather, and the beach. But, that's about it.) You're not a big spoiler enthusiast, so I won't say anything about the other movies. I do hope you enjoy them. I will gladly watch along with your reactions. Yeah... that was a lot of fun. Thank you for the nostalgia. (I actually don't really miss the 80's, either. But, that's okay. I try to enjoy living in whatever year is currently on tap. (Such as they tend to be, even of late.)) Thank you for the watch, as always. Take care, and have a pleasant evening.

PART 2 IS GREAT TO SEE THE EVOLUTION OF THEIR RELATIONSHIPS. PART 3 IS SO TOTALLY DIFFERENT AS ITS MORE LIKE DIE HARD. THE SEQUELS ARE ALL WORTH SEEING

The man behind the counter of the hotel at the very end of the film is none other than Martin Brest, the director of the film. Martin absolutely loathed the final freeze-frame, but from what I recall from the DVD audio commentary, the then-owners of the house that doubled for Victor Maitland's home insisted on it.

Visiting this since the new Beverly Hills Cop is out on Netflix. Hoping you work your way through the series. Beverly Hills Cop II is one of those sequels that lives up to its namesake. And the new one was tons of fun.

48 HOURS is another Eddie Murphy classic, with Nick Nolte. Eddie plays a very similar character, though he's not exactly a cop, lol. Similar personality.
