As a child I used to read classical novels which described the effects of war in people's lives that era...your beautiful song reminded me today the same indiscribable feelings i got about war as a child....this is so amazing and music is top notch ❤

When my daughter, who is 4 now, was 5 months old I had to leave on deployment. The night before is one of the hardest nights of my entire life. I can relate to this song so much such a beautiful concept and production thank you for this.

Being a single mom of 2, daughters now in their 20's, I know heartache, yet nothing like what you must have gone through. Your heart must have been bursting the moment you got to hold her in your arms again.

I can only imagine the tough road you had being a single mom of 2. Youu probably know better than most how fast the time goes by and how important it is to be present in the moment. For me, yes I was very excited to comeback so I took an Uber from the airport and showed up unannounced to surprise my family. When I left, my daughter and me were very close and when I came back that first day she started crying when I tried to hold her. About a week or so later, we were good and are very close to this day.

I know the feeling also. Been on 3 deployments already and wasn’t easy leaving saying good bye to the wife and kids and it’s still not. Hardest part now is even if leave for training they’re still scared that it’s another deployment and have to reassure them that it’s only training and will be back.

In the 1970s news reporters filmed everything and it was all broadcast on TV. We had just moved town. I was maybe eleven. I came home from school and Dad had left the TV on while he went off to do something. After hanging up my coat I wandered into the TV room. On it was an image of a Vietnamese woman holding a baby. In the next moment she is shot and collapses into the dust with her child. I came to pieces. In my bedroom and in tears I swore to be on the side of peace. It hasn't always been easy, but I just turned 60 and I'm still doing it. I would love to show you some of my protest signs! Great song! I hope when you are sixty you are still writing about what is good and true and kind.

It was written about the people that fought in the Gulf War." { some cheering } "It's a song about how _shitty_ war is," { cheering fades into embarrassed silence } "and about how shitty war is that it's started by politicians and it has to be finished by ordinary people who don't really want to kill anyone." { whole crowd cheers *hard!* } Iron Maiden, Monsters of Rock, Castle Donington, 1992, introducing _Afraid To Shoot Strangers._

1994: "Another mother's breaking heart is taking over. When the violence causes silence, we must be mistaken. It's the same old theme, since nineteen-sixteen." 1992: "The horrors that will lay ahead: the desert-sand mound, the burial ground. When it comes to the time, are we partners in crime?" 1991: "Look at the world we're killing, the way we've always done before. Look: in the doubt we've wallowed. Look at the leaders we've followed." 1984: "As the madmen play on words and make us all dance to their song, to the tune of starving millions, to make a better kind of gun." 1980: "Well, the suff'ring, the sorrow, the glory, the shame, the killing and dying, they were all done in vain." 1976: "We were young and full of life and none of us prepared to die, and I'm not ashamed to say the roar of guns and cannons almost made me cry." 1971: "And the young people ask: 'What are they marching for?' and I ask myself the same question." 1965: "Oh, I must have killed a million men, and now they want me back again, but I ain't marching anymore." 1963: "Fear to bring children into the world. For threatening my baby, unborn and unnamed, you ain't worth the blood that runs in your veins." 1920: "To children ardent for some desperate glory, the old lie: dulce et decorum est pro patria mori." 1867: "Where are the legs with which you'd run, when first you went to carry a gun? Indeed your dancing days are done. Johnny, I hardly knew ye." 150 years we've been trying to warn ourselves, and 150 years we've not bloody listened. We've probably been trying for twenty times that long.

My grandma passed when she was 91. I was still a little child but at least I got to know her a bit. I have many times wished she lived even longer so I could have gotten the more mature of her stories and insights. But I think she would have loved this song. She was a resistance fighter in her youth, got captured, managed to flee and had to go into hiding for a while. I only know a little from my mother about the impacts those things had on her. After the war she had my uncle almost exactly a year after the war ended and I know she also did some very interesting family research although I know some of it got lost.

Amazing and awe inspiring I could feel your heart in this one. Sadly I am all too familiar with the grand mother view and the fear that her grand daughter had just lost her child hood. For me though it is not only wars of national sovereignty that haunt my dreams and thoughts but also wars of Social sovereignty that we are facing even now in America. It is part of the reason I have remain single and childless all my life even when the choice of love and family where presented to me. I am afraid to help bring a child in this world of enteral struggles and judgments.
