    I always thought of it more as the "invasion, destruction and recreation" of someone as a person, in their whole, by another. Like how cults and other malicious organizations pull discontent people ("if only" and all that) from the "world of light" and drag them into the darkness with them. Like stealing an egg from its parents and molding the infant inside in your own image instead of the bird it was supposed to become. Which is like, canto 3 word for word

    The tale of a bird, who, having found its egg cracked, peeked out a bit too soon... Unready, finding the world outside cold, cruel, terrifying, but unable to return to its shelter, as the broken shell has long since have rotted. A premature birth, having to face maturity, while the hands that pulled it from the egg try so hard to shape it in their own desire. The unfledged bird caught in between two worlds, unable to go back to one, unready to step into the other. He will prevail, when he embraces the freedom of being able to breathe of his own lungs, even though the cold air burns the fresh tissue. When he plunges into the world flapping his own wings, ready to embrace reality - and himself.

    One interesting recurring theme in Limbus company both story, music and lore is the motif of Lamentation. Every single character in the story has something they are grieving over whether it's a person, a dream, an idea, the past, the future, a moment of inaction, a wrongful decision, something lost or something yet to gain, every single one of them even the side characters all are in the process of lamentation. The hellbus is basically a representation of the sinner's process of grieving, and we the manager are acting as a therapist and also by beating up physical representations of humanity's sins and twisted dreams.

  • @seisosimp

    @seisosimp

    8 ай бұрын

    I'd argue that the entire Leitmotif of the PMverse is lamentation... it's just a world full of messed up people trying to cope with the consequences of their actions, whether it be someone accepting that they have become evil and destroyed all the good they have left, someone who lost something to an inevitable evil and finding something or someone to lash out to, or someone trying to do good to make up for the evil that they have done and knowingly doing more evil in the process

    Its a reference to a book called demian by hermann hesse about a boy named Sinclair who's torn between two worlds hence why there was a "realm of light" and "realm of of darkness" on the screen when it changes tone, Mili really did thier research for this, in the game we focus on a character who's inspired by the book just like all the other character, the character we focus on is also named Sinclair this song reflects both him and the boss we fight

  • @baolikespizza4512
    @baolikespizza45129 ай бұрын

    I remember playing the boss and hearing this song for the first time. The buildup and adrenaline of the realm of the darkness part really set the mood for the 2nd phase. Went from “this is fine” to “OH CRAP WERE SCREWED”. Also gotta appreciate how the lyrics fits well with Sinclair’s (the focused character of this song) development as he struggles between the good and bad world.

    i think part of what makes Between two Worlds feel more 'general' contrasted to In Hell we Live, Lament is that it takes both the themes of Sinclair in Limbus Company AND the themes of him in the book Demian by Hermann Hesse. The references to the bird, the contrast between the "world of light" and how the "world of darkness" represents the end of childhood, the yearning to go back and yet the conclusion that deciding "to stay fallen" was not only good but necessary for the rebirth of one's soul... those are all themes that the game sorta touches upon but they are yet to be as fully developed as the book (from which the game takes inspiration) did. Those sorts of double meanings and references are what makes me like Mili so much, their songs have a meaning before you know context, after you know context and even after that you can find more and more meaning if you keep burrowing deeper into what led to their creative choices. Thanks for the review!

    [[SPOILERS]] The interesting thing about this song is that it parallels the weird holiness the final boss of chapter 3 perceives they exude. The song emphasizes flesh, purity, and inherent sin. They (the boss) believe the purity of flesh, untainted by prosthetics and robotics. They lead a brutal genocide against cyborgs with soldiers that is essentially what you get if you mixed European crusaders with the Spanish Inquisition inquisitors. Without trying to spoil much of it, they achieve what can be described as becoming a horrific body horror god of flesh and organic matter when the beat drops in the song

    More Mili LET'S GO! Edit: ok so, "Bit" of context. (forgive my lack of summary skill for I have wrote a freaking Bible XD) This song is from Chapter 3, which is all about Sinclair. To summarize, crazy girl (Kromer, his childhood friend/bully) burns down his village because of her hate towards prosthetics (extra context: "prosthetics" ranges from just a mechanical arm or less, to a full mechanical body, Sinclair also hates the idea of replacing one's body just cuz as people were doing there). The group of protagonists follows her towards the MacGuffin and go down Sinclair's memory lane (because said MacGuffin tends to do that), showing how *to some degree* the death of everyone he cares about is his fault, even though he was kinda manipulated by Kromer and couldn't have wanted nor predicted this outcome. Eventually fight ensues and this music starts playing, first phase is just her in her human wholeness, the second phase being she after getting transformed/distorted by the MacGuffin's power and her whole ideal of Humanity (turning into a fleshy mess with strange shape). Also also, technically we lose against her, she too stronk, but then deus ex machina and we win, yey. (I'm still slightly annoyed by that) Anyways. Hi

    I‘m sure someone else pointed it out already and I’m super late to the party anyway, but I‘m pretty sure the first half of the song is not just based on Church songs but specifically Christmas songs. The Character who‘s boss fight this is played to is said to whistle a Christmas song as a form of.. psychological Warfair I guess against the protagonist of that chapter. I‘m not entirely sure about that part of culture in the US but being German both me and a Friend of mine heard that song and immediately thought it sounded like a German Christmas song. To the point that for the first few minutes I was convinced that I have heard it before during Christmas but couldn’t put my finger on it. Since the book (and arguably the character) are German I wouldn’t put it past Mili to have used that resemblance on purpose. Und nun zu den Nachrichten.

    Trivia: the novel Demian follows the journey of a boy named Emil Sinclair and his search for self-discovery. Throughout the novel, Sinclair mentions feeling trapped between two worlds, the world of darkness and Illusions, and the world of light and truth (a reference to Plato’s famous allegory of the cave). As Sinclair grows and discovers himself, the novel compares him to a bird breaking out of its eggshell.

And the disease of mind claiming world slowly, and those struggling against it squashed, overwhelmed; and the infection creeping in the corners of ego. A world where common millions meet the gutter, (the reason of it as well as) foundations facilitating prosperity in their world being entities of godlike powers, surrounded by worship and protection - as civilization cannot function without them anymore.

    I am absolutely late by several months, but there's still one more bit of context that I don't think people really talk about: During the first Gregorian chant, the vast majority of the words used are specifically associated in the world lore with turning into a monster. You picking out that it's more general isn't entirely wrong: While the song is certainly dedicated to a specific character, that second portion certainly started by presenting the "reality" for everyone that turns into a monster.

    @CatharsisYT It’s part of the lyrics. The music itself is from a chapter 3 bossfight, and the entire chapter takes inspiration from a novel Demian by Hermann Hesse. One of the main themes of the novel is a bird breaking out of its egg, which symbolizes entering maturity. "The bird fights its way out of the egg. The egg is the world. Who would be born first must destroy a world" - a quote from the novel. The egg symbolizes the protected, vastly different world of childhood and innocence. But one must eventually break out of the egg to be truly "born" mature
