Here's the info on Y. Its ancestor was the Semitic letter 'waw' which means 'hook' in Hebrew. It was a consonant. Later, the Greeks adopted it's form, did some alterations, and renamed it 'upsilon' which made the 'ooh' sound in ancient Greek and the 'ee' sound in modern Greek. In Latin, Y was known as 'Greek I' However, I had a long E sound and a Y consonant sound. Even J has a Y consonant sound in languages like Polish, German, and Dutch. Both Y and I have four sounds: 'yuh' as in yeast and junior 'eye' as in sky and fine 'ih' as in analytical and skin AND 'ee' as in lovely and saltine

The very best show in the world! Our kids learned some great things from "Between the Lions." No matter how hard I tried to teach English and all its vauguaries, BTL taught it better with music. Who could beat "when two vowels go walking?" Who could beat "Homophones" as performed by Brian McKnight and Cleo? Best damned show in the world when it comes to teaching the English language.

The letter Y also has a fourth sound. It can also make the short i sound, "IH". As in "gym", "myth", and "system".

@@harrystoller4147I love how sometimes the show shows that the lions can and DO eat meat just like real lions, but just choose not to eat the ones that come into the library because they’re their friends LOL. Theo is choosing to not eat the hen, parrot and duck and just wants to jam out with them instead:) I can’t even explain why but it somehow works better than in stuff like Lion King where they just avoid talking about how the lions eat other animals, idk lol.

the letter y cab make 4 sounds when it's a consonant and a vowel like words in yarn and yellow and more it makes a yuh sound in a vowel it could sound like e when a baby loves her family and more it can make an i sound in many words like you fly in the sky it can make the I sound too it's ih like in myst abd gym and two sounds like mystery !

Techinally, there's four "y" sounds, to make it worse 🤣 1) y = it's original sound like "yell", "yak" "yes" "yam" 2) long "i" = y (fly, cry, my, by) 3) long "e" = y (baby, cubby, tubby, mucky) 4) short "i" = y (crystal, Egypt, gypsy, bicycle, symbol)
