LYRICS:
Between Heaven And Hell Gavin Dunne 2023
In the light of a fallen angel
In the shade of the maker baneful
We are beautiful, we are vile
Multifarious, blood and bile
In the plains of our mother's haven
We are noble and we are craven
We are impotent growing minds
Heirs of heaven and hell entwined
Mother reborn
To free the torn
Human grain
Sown in pain
Harvest it comes for us all
Angels haunt
Demons taunt
The great ever torment the small
This was never our war to fight
Put out the blinding light
In the waste of their wake we have suffered
Ever caught between heaven and hell
Now we fall at the feet of our mother
Ever caught between heaven and hell
Every rule must make way for another
Ever caught between heaven and hell
In the light of a fallen angel
In the shade of the maker baneful
We are beautiful, we are vile
Multifarious, blood and bile
In the plains of our mother's haven
We are noble and we are craven
We are impotent growing minds
Heirs of heaven and hell entwined
Return
A strength for the deserted and the damned
Return
When we cry in turmoil you will understand
And the blinding light shall fade
Our eyes will drink the shade
And cease to burn
Return
To raise our mortal blades and toll the bells
Return
When it's time to lift our resolve and rebel
If the heavens high shall fall
The abyss shall swallow all
Forever torn
Reborn
Reborn
By the blood of the willing
Human grain
Sown in pain
Faith drips in red on the sword
Still we share
Wasted prayers
Piety bears no reward
This was never our war to fight
Put out the blinding light
In the waste of their wake we have suffered
Ever caught between heaven and hell
Now we fall at the feet of our mother
Ever caught between heaven and hell
Every rule must make way for another
Ever caught between heaven and hell
Mother reborn
To free the torn

Finally, a Diablo-inspired song! This one's structure & pacing is a little more progressive & weird than my other recent work, so it may take a few listens to properly vibe with the off-kilter way it ebbs & flows. Enjoy and don't to forget to like, share, comment & all the other things that the algorithm demon demands of me. \m/ Big luv. Gav

@@delco999 Thanks! I love making symphonic metal :) Were I creating more of a character piece, for example from the player's or Lilith's POV, I'd have gone for a darker, more sombre tone. But as a kind of all-encompassing overture on the epic, grandiose Diablo lore, I felt that a big, over-the-top symphonic metal song was a nice fit

Only lore you need to know to better apreciate this music is this. Angels and Demons split from the same entity eons ago, eventually forming Heaven and Hell, they have been at war ever since. Then an Angel called Inarius and a Demon called Lilith got tired of the conflict and created a world called Sanctuary where they and like minded angels and demons could hide. The angels and demons eventually had children with each other called Nephilim, which were more powerful than either. Heaven and Hell both found out and made a deal to put a limite world to weaken the power of the Nephilim over time, so the Nephilim got waker and weaker until they became Humanity. So mankind was born between the love between Order and Chaos, Good and Evil. "We are noble and we are craven, we are beautiful and we are vile." The events of Diablo 4 mark the return of both Inarius and Lilith, so the whole conflict basically revolves about who's getting custody of the kids.

I absolutely LOVE the infusion of iconic instruments from the source materials in these songs. I'm not a musician so I may get some lingo wrong, but with the acoustics in the beginning of this which evoke the original Tristram theme, or with the guitar riff in "The Moment" mimicking the original Wonder Woman theme, or especially with the entire instrumentation of the Witcher songs, the use of media specific instruments alongside the signature "gavrock" creates this perfect blend of familiarity of style with individuality for each song. It's the thing I love about these (other than the banger vocals and lyricism), that each song retains the strengths of all the others while providing something unique with each new inspiration. Absolute bangers, absolute art.

I just gotta say Gav. Diablo has been an integral part of my life since I was a toddler (not that diablo was ever a game for kids haha) and this song really captures the essence of the diablo story. I don't know how you manage to grab a game and replicate its vibe and feel through the musical medium so perfectly and make it your own, but you do. And that's why you're one of my favourite Musicians of all time

Absolutely amazing! This will be on repeat a lot for sure. I feel like you captured the spirit of the franchise really well. I knew I will love it at the moment the Tristram-like guitar made an appearance and it only got better from there!

I don’t know why, I must’ve listened to this song several dozen times, but 2 out of 3 times when I sing this to myself, I’ll say ‘We are Pitiful, we are Wise’ instead of ‘We are Beautiful, we are Vile’. I haven’t played D4 so I’m not even sure that line would even work. Still a gold star song.

My favorite thing about the lyrics is that it entails the plight of humanity in the world of Diablo when it comes to Eternal Conflict. They want to be left alone from both sides, even the High Heavens (such as lyrics such as "turn off the blinding light"), but unfortunately, they have to side with the former due to the latter, the Nine Hells, poses a worse if not equal fate for humanity ("If the heavens high shall fall, the abyss shall swallow"), they have no choice but to rebel and fight against them, sometimes with the High Heavens, sometimes even against them. And on its own, it's a kickass song to boot!

Absolutely in love on first listen, I think this'll definitely be a long time favourite and a go-to audio caffeine! :D All the different parts with different tempos, levels of engery and overall feel just flow into each other perfectly keeping the song interesting from start to finish (and multiple repeats). Thank you so much!!!
