I met Jimmy Boyd in Las Vegas about 1977. He seemed very nice. He had a wonderful singing voice even as an adult.

I've been researching Jimmy Boyd's life and from what people tell me he was fun-loving, kind, enjoyed sailing and tennis and did his own thing no matter what other people thought of him. You were lucky to have met him. Hard to believe he has been gone ten years.

This is great! I had no idea she had her own show. I didn't even know she sang so well. She was so beautiful and cute, though. Love Betty!! But, seeing her here she looks so much like Catherine Frot who is a wonderful French actress.

Jimmy occasionally appeared as "Wheeler" on Betty's previous series "DATE WITH THE ANGELS" (1957-'58). He was a regular on this live short-lived successor to her filmed sitcom; "THE BETTY WHITE SHOW" lasted just 13 weeks [fulfilling her year-long contract with Plymouth].

I don't think I'd known Betty White ever did a variety show like this. Jimmy Boyd had been famous for introducing "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" when he was about 10 years old. He followed it up a year or so later with a similar song to cash in on the Mambo craze at the time: "I Saw Mommy Do The Mambo". The 1958 Plymouth in the background behind the final credits is looking mighty attractive too, I must say.

Boyd also played "Wheeler," the nephew of Betty White's character ("Vickie Angel") on White's "Date With The Angels" sitcom, as well a regular on the John Forsythe sitcom "Bachelor Father," as "Howard Meechim," the nerdy teen male friend of series co-star Noreen Corcoran's "Kelly Gregg." How ironic the younger Boyd died some years ago, yet we now celebrate the longevity of the actress who played his elder relative on their mutual TV series. More people remember White than Boyd, for sure.

You're right, it's the same Jimmy Boyd that was on Bachelor Father. He had really good comic timing as Kelly's boyfriend Howard. However my favorite Bachelor Father cast member was Bernadette Withers, who was PERFECTLY cat as Kelly's best friend Ginger. Ms Withers was great if not superb at physical comedy with her facial bug eyed expressions and the way she gazed at boys and her swooning spells. Sometimes you get the feeling that Howard and Ginger are siblings even though they're not.

Jimmy Boyd's best known acting role was as Kelly Gregg's simple minded but good natured boyfriend, Howard Meechum on 'Bachelor Father'. You're right,. he had red hair. Another Bachelor Father cast member with red hair was Bernadette Withers who played Kelly's wacky boy crazy best friend, Ginger, whose last name and parents changed from year to year. IMDB used to mix up the acting credits of this Jimmy Boyd with Jim Boyd of The Electric Company...

@cmulwee001 .. but they are NOT the same person. I have see recent footage of the Jim Boyd of the The Electric Company, on volume 2 of "The Best Of.." collection, and he does NOT resemble or talk like the late "Bachelor Father" performer AT ALL. Also THIS Jimmy Boyd was a country boy from Mississippi while the other was a northerner from Philadelphia. IMDb in more recent years corrected their mistake. Now this guy is(was) Jimmy Boyd(I) while TEC's cast member is Jim Boyd(VII).

Here's a scene from that's the Way of the World (1975) with Jimmy Boyd as Gary Page. kzread.info/dash/bejne/pWhtz62BgpO9qbA.html. He was funny in that role; however, it was a shame he was typecasted and could not land roles more often in better movies or TV shows after the mid-1960s.

As a gay man myself, Jimmy sets off my gaydar big time. He's the type of gay guy, like Paul Lynde or even a less extreme Liberace, where it's so obvious yet straight people can't see it, or choose not to see it. I just saw Jimmy on an old Merv Griffin show rerun on GET-TV and it was the most obvious there than anywhere I've yet seen. His hands were all over the other cute young male singer on the show, a British singer Steve Perry (not the Journey lead singer) and flirty. Of course Merv was also gay himself.

+DentalTech1000 Not that it necessarily means it was so, but I read Jimmy Boyd was heterosexual and twice married to women, one of who was Yvonne Craig, who was television's "Batgirl." And with his second wife, Anne Forrey, Boyd fathered a child, his son. As that was the era before artificial insemination was practiced, Boyd had to have had conventional intercourse with a female, at least once, to have fathered his son.Boyd was also drafted into the United States Army in 1961, in the era before even "Don't ask don't tell" was Pentagon policy. So if Boyd was a homosexual, with all this evidence to the contrary, he was certainly a very closeted homosexual. Just curious, other than his having touched another male singer on a television show, what makes you think Boyd was homosexual? Plenty of males have physical contact with other males, in sports for example. But this doesn't make all these men homosexual, not solely based on having had physical contact with another male. If that be the case, then all male doctors would be considered homosexual for the fact of touching their male patients while performing examinations. Also, although it has been speculated, Merv Griffin never admitted if he was homosexual, and also had a biological son with his wife. Of course neither did Liberace either, publicly. But there was ample evidence of that, including the males who testified in court (in support of Liberace's ex-partner Scott Thorson), to confirm Liberace's sexual orientation. And even his fellow entertainer friends, such as Betty White, have admitted Liberace was homosexual. "Not that there's anything wrong with that (as was said a few times in an infamous "Seinfeld" episode)!"

+gymnastix It's true that Jimmy had two brief marriages, one for 2 years (1960-62) and the other for 4 years (1980-84). I see in Jimmy the mannerisms of many gay men that I have known, some of whom were married too and had children. (During sex with a female they say they had to fantasize about a man in order to perform). Quite a lot of gay men have been in the armed forces. When I came out to my grandfather thinking he wouldn't accept it well, he accepted it just completely fine and said that there were many homosexuals on his ship in the Navy during World War II. Re Marv Griffin, a friend of mine in Los Angeles worked for his production company for years and said that attractive young men would go into Merv's office, the door would close, and everyone on staff knew what was going on. But of course it's common knowledge today about Merv, even without my friend's confirmation of it. Merv was sued by males twice for sexual harassment, which made the National Enquirer. One of them was Denny Terrio, the host of Dance Fever, produced by Merv. But back to Jimmy, I could be wrong, certainly. If you had seen the Merv Griffin show clip you would understand more. Unfortunately, it isn't on KZread.

+DentalTech1000 Wow! I was just watching the old Merv Griffin Show (on GetTV and I happened to be recording it) and was struck, too, by how gay (for lack of a better term) Jimmy Boyd came across. I'm gay, too, and my gaydar isn't always the most accurate; but, two things struck me: 1) When Boyd was introduced and came on to the stage, he struck, for lack of a better term, a very "gay" pose, when approaching Griffin, by "effeminately" or exaggeratedly placing his hand (back of hand/wrist) on his hip; and, then, putting his arm around or, otherwise "touching in a friendly way" a very uncomfortable appearing Steve Perry (arms folded, leaning away from Boyd," definitely not smiling or getting into the fun of the show.) Which brings me to asking just who was Perry? Whatever became of him? All I can find about him is that he was British, sang/recorded a song, "Another Rainy Day," and folded his arms a lot. Anyhow, seeing this all on the Griffin show, I immediately started Googling Boyd and Perry, which lead me here :)
