it's interesting that i always thought this was one of the bjorkest songs by bjork even though it was a cover, but i never cared to check out the original, and now that i did i realized that her cover is true genius exactly because it is so similar to the original, calling our attention not to how innovative bjork's version was in 1995 but how innovative betty hutton's version was in 1951. i guess all the modern things have always existed indeed!

Never knew there was another version before Bjork's, which I love. Now after hearing this, I can totally understand the genius, as Betty Hutton was perfect for this song.

This was one of the most out of place tracks on Post so I googled if it was a cover or something because it was so unlike anything Björk to write a song that sounds like this,, and yeah turns out it was a cover which explains how out of place it is

Just found out today that Bjork's version WAS a cover. And yeah, she really did stick with the vibe quite a bit, which I would say didn't need to be changed much. It's a rocking tune!
I came from Björk and stayed for Betty! =) What a great cover...
I love both versions. Bjork really paid the proper respect!
We really need to bring back screaming at the top of your lungs. Such a powerful musical element.

For 1951 this is a banger. Her vocals were incredibly ahead of the time.
Betty Hutton was way ahead of her time. She had a stage presence and an energetic persona that very few performers of the era had.
I had no idea! Love this! I fell in love with Bjork's version right away. And after 30 years! I also listen to such a wide variety of music. I'm no stranger to Betty Hutton's music either. Stumbling across this is a good omen for the day!
Forget the singing for a second. The songwriting is unbelievable. I can’t think of another of the great songwriters who could put such disparate types of tunes together. Who had the balls. And made it work. Avante fucking garde! And totally accessible
Didn’t realize this was a cover by Bjerknes. But this is classic, classic Betty Hutton. She was a standout acrobatic singer
I knew it was Betty! LOL 😆 Great song for the Facebook Ad! 🏀🏀🏀
What an incredible performance 71 YEARS AGO#!!!!
Bjork and whoever else has resurrected this Betty Hutton gem are to be credited, but no one could sing or perform like the incomparable Betty Hutton, she was as versatile in her singing as she was in her dancing and acting, with every conceivable part or aspect of her voice and body being utilized for maximum impact, from her facial expressions (complex use of her rubber face) to her movements of her head, shoulders, torso, arms, hands, hips, legs, feet, posture, demeanor, an unmatched masterpiece of entertainment was Betty Hutton, she was much more than the nation's 'jitterbug', and throughout her movies she is always the best part of them, even if the movie was average, her performances in them were stellar.

I KNEW it had to be BETTY HUTTON singing during that recent commercial! Boom!!! The power is amazing!XOXO
She sounds amazing! Imagine making a song like this in the 50s. wow Jazz music is truly underrated.
I feel like Bjork's screams are more powerful, but this is one hell of a performance itself.
Betty Hutton was a one of a kind power house!
I always knew it had a 50's vibe to it....glad i looked into the original. Byork did a good job but....gotta love the oldies ; )

Lyrics: Shhhh, Shhhh It's, oh, so quiet Shhhh Shhhh It's, oh, so still Shhhh Shhhh You're all alone Shhh Shhh And so peaceful until... You fall in love Zing boom The sky up above Zing boom Is caving in Wow bam You've never been so nuts about a guy You wanna laugh you wanna cry You cross your heart and hope to die 'Til it's over and then... Shhhh, Shhhh It's nice and quiet Shhhh, Shhhh But soon again Shhhh, Shhhh Starts another big riot You blow a fuse Zing boom The devil cuts loose Zing boom So what's the use Wow bam Of falling in love? It's, oh, so quiet It's, oh, so still You're all alone And so peaceful until... You ring the bell Bim bam You shout and you yell Hi ho ho You broke the spell Gee, this is swell you almost have a fit This guy is "gorge" and I got hit There's no mistake this is it 'Til it's over and then... It's nice and quiet Shhhh Shhhh But soon again Shhhh Shhhh Starts another big riot You blow a fuse Zing boom The devil cuts loose Zing boom So What's the use Wow bam Of falling in love? The sky caves in The devil cuts loose You blow blow blow blow blow your fuse Aaaaah! When you fall in love... Ssshhhhhh...

Bjork’s version brought me here! This is such a good tune!
Don't know why everyone is saying it's ahead of it's time. It's a very 40's/50's song. Big Band jazz sound? Check. Musical theatre elements? Check. Slow doo-wop wasn't the only music made at that time.

When this was a hit by Bjork I was certain it was a remake of an old song by Betty Hutton but it took a long time to encounter the original. There was no KZread back then.
I love that Bjork put it out when she did, that this kind of song hit the charts, but musically and vocally it was all here already in the original English language version (and better). A great MV was really all that was added. For something somewhat similar I prefer Shiina Ringo's more complex (and her own original) composition 'The Leading Hitter'. kzread.info/dash/bejne/jIqWtrKAm8bFgqQ.htmlfeature=shared

You can see why Betty was such a big fan of Throwing Muses when she was at college with Kristin Hersh. 😄
