Betty Draper - Poker Face

Фильм және анимация

Betty is the baddest bitch ever...
Now Listen to me, i think Betty is a great character and a great person too, the problem is that she has been misunderstood the whole series and thats very sad actually, i think that everyone in her place would make the same choices as her, so STOP JUDGING BETTY.

Betty Draper remains one of my favorite characters, her character is so tragic but so beautiful on the inside. It touches my heart in a poignant way.

Always love Betty, probably one of the most well written characters in Mad Men. I rally can't understand why people hate her so much, she was a woman in the 60s, she was trapped in a life that she really didn't want. Always feel so sad for her, she'll always be on of my favorite characters and I'll always be a Betty's defender. January Jones made an amazing work with her character.

Shallow beauty - Betty was horrible - a horrible person, horrible mother and a horrible wife. Inner beauty is more important.

@@GMAN95120 I agree she was such a horrible woman, terrible wife, terrible person, terrible mother just opposite of Iconic Women. I won't let her near my family if I knew someone like her.

I like her as a character, but she's definitely tragic. She was forced into living a caged life. But she also made a lot of very poor decisions, treated ppl in very petty ways. She's hard to like. But I think that's the point. She could have shined in life and truly been happy given a different set of circumstances. Those circumstances weren't afforded to women of her time. So Betty became cruel and miserable and never grew past that, until her tragic end. Like so many housewives of the era.

@@ritul2345 she was a victim of patriarchy and her time. The very wrong thing she did was to abuse Sally emotionally, just as her parents did with her. I prefer not to say anything about Bobby, I'm a mother myself but I doubt I'd do better with such a boy XD. Terrible wife to whom? To Don Scumbag Draper? Come on... Probably if she had met Henry instead of Don her life would have been better.

Poor Betty everyone loves to hate on Betty, what is it...she is not the ideal mother by any means. Her face is nearly immobil, she is obsessed by how she looks, SHE seems to think that is ALL of her. I have the blonde hair blue eyes even my facial features are similar I am curvier than Betty which also stereotypes me in some peoples minds, I have had Bettys body when thinner. People assume I am dull traditional and not the brightest woman as they assume of Betty. But I was a Phd clinical psychololgy researcher and professor. My IQ is in the third quartile above the mean. I retired early to sail the Caribbean with my husband and have traveled much of the world. I am a risk taker living in a tropical Central American country on the side of an extinct volcano overlooking two volcanos, one active. I have survived a hurricane in our sailboat, been a navigator keeping us off tropical reefs, driven from the US border south through Mexico to Central America more than once...but to look at me you would think I was a protected ,"privileged" typical American housewife...just goes to show appearances can be deceiving . I wonder what is roiling around in Betty's head? Maybe SHE isnt the airhead everyone thinks she is.

@@karmakomodia Thanks for the kind comment...I was just an adventurer...grew up around alot of boys who were in my fathers Boy Scout troop. I played with them because they haunted our house after school. We played softball everyday. I was the best pitcher being left handed gave me an advantage. We climbed the huge oak tree and since I was lighter and the tree was in my yard I knew which branches would support me ..they didnt. I was always challenging them.We raced bikes and when my Dad was home did target practice...archery and a 22 rifle, supervised. Once they graduated to hunting I did not follow. So I grew up unsheltered, an outdoor active girl...that made me adventurous. My grandmother made sure I had manners and social graces I "cleaned up well". I look very similar to you actually ...we could be sisters.....Again thanks for the nice comment. Usually men understand and like me more than women...women just cant peg me since I LOOK like a breakable China doll and move like a girl NOW. But inside I am Texas tough (originally from south Texas) or a Steel Magnolia.

I don't know that people think she's an airhead. I never got that from the show. I think it's clear Betty is very intelligent. The problem is that Betty was sold a lie, that her beauty defined her, and that her family defined her. She never got the chance to be more than a housewife. And that made her cruel and bitter and petty. As well as distant, and icy. She's not very likable. And that's because she couldn't be authentic. She was never given the chance to reach or even dream of her potential. I got the impression that for most of the show, not even Betty knew what was in her head. Betty was so detached from her own feelings, and clearly compartmentalized everything that showed her life was a lie... She was truly tragic.
