I think the idea of the Samsung having a user replaceable battery kind of sells it for me. AND a headphone jack! If only all new tablets were as feature rich these days. ;)

The Samsung has built-in GPS. The iPad only gets GPS with the 5g version, so by the time you have upgraded to the 5g version and more storage the price has gone up another $400. Add another $30 for a rugged case. Now the IPad mini is double the price of the Galaxy Tab Active 5.

It's cool that samsung is delving into a upper mid power 8" tablet again (I used to love the smaller 8.0 tab s2, great tablet in it's time), but I don't really think this is a good comparison of devices because of the huge difference in raw horsepower for the cpu/socs. Geekbench 6 lists it as over twice as fast in single and multi core (134% & 106%). Antu 10 has it over twice as fast (120%). Huge contrast. The exynos 1380 is around a snapdragon 845 or 855 (closer to the 855), but the A15 Bionic really blows it away. I'm not an apple fan, but it's hard to deny the objective specs. I do wish (much like some of the posters below), Samsung would make a Tab S version that included the 8" form factor. A 8" tab s8 or s9 would be amazing.

iPad mini's best equivalent is Samsung Tab A9 128/8GB .Even though I am an Apple ecosystem user. I preferred the A9 to the iPad mini.

I'm actually quite surprised that the image quality is better on the Active 5 than the Ipad Mini. I know the Mini is consider Apple low-tier but still. Regardless for what the Active 5 is seemingly designed (outdoor utilitarian) for the Active 5 definitely beats the Ipad Mini. On the same note with how the Ipad Mini is seemingly designed (everyday use) for the Ipad Mini definitely beats the Active 5. At the end of the day it all depends on how you're going to use these two tablets.

@@einerus Be that as it may, Apple's Liquid Retina display is supposed to be the epitome of consumer displays for mobile tech. Three years should not really make too much a difference against your typical IPS panel.

Please do review of lenevo tab p12 with keyboard gaming

If the price difference is going towards 50% I might get the Samsung although most of my devices are geared towards Apple ecosystem.

i miss the buttons and white or gold colored head and chin of phones and tablets.

If I were to choose a rugged tablet i think i would go with the Oukitel RT7 Titan that have a crazy battery

I just bought a samsung and I am very satisfied because it can make calls and replace the battery and screen more smoothly! The battery life is okay, it’s convenient to just buy an extra used battery!

What's the brightness in nits on the Galaxy Tab Active5? I want a rugged tablet that's viewable in daylight because I'd be running the ZCAM app on it to see the feed from my cinema camera.

How are you comparing a rugged usage tablet with a flaghsip mini tablet. Its like comparing blueberries with stones and saying blueberries taste better lmao. Theres no comparison. Maybe compare with something from Samsung that is intended for normal flagship use?

Next compare a Tesla Model 3 with a Fiat 500.

Cared* I don't think apple are gonna continue with the mini pad. Also I don't think Samsung wants to step into a mini pad category after knowing that mini iPad sales are plummeting. That feels like a dumb decision. But yeah this is where less known brands can step in with cheap products while not competing against big brands.

The Samsung is waterproof and can use with gloves on.

My Active3 has a microSD slot up to 1 TB, the review doesn't say whether the Active5 has the same. Fail.

Where???? Here where I live the iPad 10 costs $800 with 256gb and around $600 with the miserable 64gb. In such case, I´d buy the galaxy tab S9 FE for $520 which comes with a bigger screen, a stylus and 5G. BTW here the iPad mini costs over $600 as well. How lucky you guys are to get such devices cheap in the US (I assume).

Nah, the iPad is by far way better with the UI/ Software & Performance. The iPad mini 6 will stay relevant for 5 years unlike the Samsung Tablet.

This Active 5 is a rugged use device. It's a low-end tablet. They are two different categories that you can't compare. Try watching a comparison against the flagship Tab S9 or something.

ipad mini is usually $399 these days
