Yes, I agree. Showed the movie to my 10yr old daughter. Her and I were in tears at many parts especially this scene. I explained how hard life's storms can be even when we are chosen as God's children. In the end, keep your faith and know God will see you through. She totally understood it and cried when his brothers betrayed him. She agreed we have to FORGIVE those who have hurt us. God is good!

This song introduced me to God. The power of media. For good or Evil. Praise the Redeemer

This song holds a cherished place in my heart. It really resurrects the hope within me when it feels like it has been terribly diminished. The Lord is good in all His ways and I am glad to know Him.

I am crying this song is speaking to me god is always there for us we need to share this with all people

When I was younger we owned that movie and I remember watching it and I remember my mom loved that song. At the time I was too young to really appreciate it like she did. But as I've grown I've come back to this song a lot and I've grown to cherish the truth that this song tells of God's sovereignty and that He always knows what is best for us even when we think something else would be better.

I agree with you completely and I think if the movie was given a theatrical release it probably would have, but it was released to Direct-to-video. But had it been released in theatres I think the song could have been nominated for an Academy award and possibly even win it.

I like the flash backs as remember and recalls everything that has happened to him from when he was sold by his brothers to when he was in working in potiphers house to the night he was framed by potiphers wife and thrown into prison

Great song! God is our best teaher howerer people get proud and forget Him until they pass same experience like Joseph being in the Egiptian prison, don't they? Praise God that He loves us so much and never stops looking for!!

Ok, the symbolism: the tree is Joseph, the rocks are the experiences he went through and the dirt is what he's from his experiences. Those two together, alongside the nourishment for the body (water for the tree and the food the servant girl smuggled for him), helped him grow from a mere to a healthy tree, from a naive young boy to a full grown man

After watching the movie and listening this song again, it makes a lot of sense now. I fully understand this song now and I know that we all thought that we know ourselves, but in truth we don't and God knows us better than ever. God bless this song and God bless you everyone!

This is exactly how I feel towards God. Sometimes I feel like I know what's best for myself and do what I want, but end up failing, getting hurt, and falling. But God is always there to pick me up and lead me to the right direction because He truly knows better than I do. I'm so glad that there's a song like this to remind how God knows best for me. :)

This song should be sung in church

I think "The Prince of Egypt" and "Joseph" are possibly the most meaningful works of animation ever brought out.

Sry about that, but this is what this scene says to me, what it has always said to me, and it is something difficult to put into words. Which is why this movie and Brother Bear are my fav animated movies; they are the most powerful. Because, after all what can be more important than Love, Faith and that beautiful four letter word Hope. Joseph here, is putting down his burdens, laying himself bear, he is learning to forgive himself and the world, two important things that we all must do...

It is no deity and no outside thing that gives Joseph or anyone Hope, it is Love and Self that give Hope, Love of all things and oneself, and the Self which we must search and pray to, dig and tap into in order to find the will to live which gives rise to Hope. From Hope, Faith is born and out of Faith we can learn to Love one another, and we can pray to the gods or to whatever deity or piece of heaven you believe in. Doesn't matter what it is, the important thing is Hope...

@LauritsTTCampen It's not the divine that give us this 'tree' but us, we cannot find it elsewhere, nor can any god or goddess give us it, we must find it within ourselves. We must find hope in our hearts through our own means, or so I think. Though I too appreciate the symbolism in this song, and this movie, and think that Pagan (like myself), Eastern faiths, abrahamic faiths and all philosophies have this in common; the search for the divine within ourselves.
