I completely agree! I think a lot of the time when people think of off-brand lego they think of terrible Minifigures and weird-looking sets. But If you go looking for just parts, you'll find that their actually on par with Lego. Even dollar tree sells small lego piece packs that are good quality

@Honne there are two different types of second-hand lego. Yes there are companies that sell pieces that don't fit into Lego's catalog, but a lot of knock-off brand lego sticks to what Lego makes in the exact same shape, size, and design

  • @ZacPricener

This is why I think it's important to avoid being a LEGO snob/purest. If the quality is high, and the colors match, people should always at least try it out. We need to do this to remind LEGO that we have other options. Behaving like LEGO is all there is gives the company clearance to act however they want.

Exactly. I've bought loads of second-hand Lego over the years and discovered plenty of off-brand bricks mixed in with the hauls. Rather than throw them away I've always used those bricks for structural supports in unseen places and as filler below real Lego bricks.

This is exactly where Lego gets things wrong, I can understand the additional cost for highly designed sets, or licensed sets (which I avoid anyway due to crazy prices), however basic pieces and baseplates that facilitate city building should be way cheaper!👍🏻

ONE word of caution before you buy Strictly Briks: the studs aren't perfectly distanced. If you line 2 LEGO baseplates next to 2 Strictly Briks baseplates, you will see the studs don't align at all once you get to the end of the 2nd baseplate. The more baseplates you line up, the greater the error. Just something to keep in mind before buying.

The ones at the link are not base plates. They call them Baseplates but they are actually plates. They call them Stackable. Which means they have holes on the underside that you can attach bricks, other plates, etc. to the underside. They, Strictly Briks, do have both types. Regular 32x32 Baseplates and 32/32 Stackable Baseplates (actually plates). The non-stackable baseplate ones are a bit thinner. I buy the stackable ones. They work perfectly. If you do buy these just make sure you get the ones you want. James 😁

I have recently gotten into building the Lego Super Mario sets with my young son and bought a few base plates because the 2xWhatever size bridges they provide to connect the modules are laughably flimsy. And speaking of flimsy, the thinness of the official Lego base plates was definitely a concern for me, so thank you for sharing this. We will definitely be trying some of these. Now if only I could figure out a good solution for attaching diagonally lined pieces onto the baseplate...

These look like an excellent brand if you want 32x32 plates you can build down from. Dollar Tree often carries 16x16 for $1.25 in their Make-it-Blocks brand, which is very high quality for the price. But watch out for warped ones. The Max Bricks 32x32 down-buildable plates from Wal Mart are nice too. They are around $5 each when they have them. But if all you need is the baseplate, and not the extra thickness or the anti-studs, Dollar Tree occasionally has 32x32 baseplates in a wider variety of colors that Lego for $1.25 each. But the last time they actually had them in stock, i paid a dollar.

I haven’t seen this product in Australia but it looks great. If it is as you say it is then three plates on top of each other equals one brick height whereas you can never get that perfect formula with base plates. So with this solution you can place ordinary plates alongside base plates and have a perfectly horizontal city, or build rivers below the main ground line etc and it all works out perfectly. It is for this reason that I have been holding back from mills plates. They require every inch of your city to be on base plates or that rare commodity, half base plates, and nothing else.

Welcome to the club .... they already raised prices in UK earlier this year. We are paying more than £1 per $1 when $1 is worth £0.82

These would be great for MILS plate tops; they are too thick for bottoms.

To those who need just one or two baseplates I recommend dollar tree as they sell a veriety of basic colors but you have to shop around dollar tree in your area but at a dollar there great for young builders and afol display and I use them myself for my Star Wars scenes in my display and I have nothing bad to say for a budget display board or young builder

Plastic is always going to be cheaper from India/China from a resource and labor POV. While I think buying non-Lego branded plastic block building items is completely fine and should be done, I don't think you can necessarily make this an apples to apples comparison. Maybe Lego is raising prices because Labor and materials are more expensive in the places they do business since they don't want to outsource to an India/China? All of this could be wrong since I know they do outsource to some other countries and LEGO could probably stand to be cheaper but I don't think its fair to say "hey Lego should be the same price as this place that outsources everything to India"

Hello! I’ve bought these, and I don’t recommend buying them. They don’t fit regular legos, they won’t get pressed on and I’ve got several splinters trying.

I like this because you can't connect the original baseplates to Lego underneath but with these it's good

Well I was excited for these but checking prices now these have now become actually MORE expensive than real lego base plates.

Ugh finally more people show lego that is not okey what they do. And that competitors have really good products. Living in asia other brand's are the norm and lego is just a scam for their prices
