just to let you know, kokomo resort has started an annual island clean up and also, arranged rubbish removal for the entire island amongst other preservation efforts
Jamie's still photos are amazingly good; their country and culture is fascinating to see and hear about. Wish them the best of luck on getting tourist there

It's a beautiful place, easy to get to (even without your own boat!) but with a secluded and remote vibe. We can't say enough how much we love this island. Liz x
Absolutely beautiful...Bali before the Dutch, surfers and so so much tourism. I hope they can have their happy medium and attract and balance tourism with a little government support.

Us too. There are plenty still left, but they're getting swallowed up. It was amazing to find somewhere so natural right next to Bali. ♥️ Liz
Wow.. what an introduction! Liz, I can't figure out which of you has the better voice, but one thing is clear, you guys have a radio voice for sure. I recall not liking the slow pace at which you visit places, often taking weeks or a month, to dig into an island. But now I get it and love it. What a great way to spend your years - such a nice awesome relaxed way to go about life. It is perhaps the greatest luxury you can acquire - the time to visit and smell the flowers. Only wish we could achieve this at some point.
Another great video from Follow the Boat. I was on Gili Trawangan in December of 1990, just over 32 years ago now. At that time, Gili Trawangan looked like Gili Gede today. There were very few places to stay. The villagers on Gili Gede have good ideas about not letting tourism developments get out of control too quickly. They certainly got the idea after watching developments on Gili Trawangan.

Exactly what Joe said! He worked on Gili T for a while and disliked it. Too noisy, too much drinking and nudity for his tastes. He loves tourists who are interested in the Sasak and local culture and have come to immerse themselves in somewhere different. Like everyone here, he's not anti-tourist, just not in favour of losing local culture. Liz x
Love you guys.

Thank you for the new word. Salubrious. First time I ever heard it and I hope to be able to use it in conversation someday.

It's common in the UK to use the word 'salubrious' in an ironic way, i.e describing somewhere pretty run-down and unpleasant as 'salubrious'. Here Jamie used it in a non-ironic way, we love Gili Gede! Liz 💛

I like Gili gede very nice✌️✌️✌️✌️
I live in Bali, southern Gilis is the place i go when i visit lombok. Have yet to set foot on the northern Gilis.. 😂 Most of the time it's Gili Nanggu (since the 90s). Opposite Marina Del Rey on the mainland is a nice small bungalow called Palmyra, also very nice and tranquil.

Very possibly my favorite FTB episode! How perfect that you ran into Joe when you did, i.e. not on the day you planned a tour with him but impromptu. I replayed the sequence five or six times and am still at a loss: what is that animal walking up the felled tree trunk at 19:47?? Is it actually a horse? Best regards.

Have you had a bad experience of unspoiled places that have 'gone tourist', or know someone who has? I'm interested in this topic as it is what we want to cover in next week's video podcast. Liz
