    To lower temps with a fan you have to do one of two things, evacuate hot air from the case or blow air directly on the cooling fins of the GPU. The BEST way to lower temps by far though is to undervolt your GPU. That will lower your temps likely by 10C or more with no performance loss. NVIDIA overvolts the hell out of their GPUs from the factory. I took m 3070ti from using 315W peak to around 220W and my temps went down by 12C with an undervolt. My GPU hot spot is now cooler than my GPU was. It's maybe 1 fps lower but the 1% lows got better due to being able to stay at a consistent clock.

    This would have been handy if you have a passively-cooled graphics card that gets toasty. I had a 1030 that would gets up to 86C when gaming, and up to 96C when running Furmark.

    Or if you have a lower end gpu with a dead fan or two. This could be an ok alternative, but you could also just zip tie some case fans to it if you're into that.

    FYI, NVIDIA cards can almost all be undervolted with little to no performance loss. You can even do a mild undervolt and get BETTER performance. NVIDIA overvolts their GPUs by a lot so their lower bin silicon GPU chips will work.

    I used a similar product 3 x 92mm pwm, to replace dead fans on a GPU. I removed the old shroud and fan mounts got these fans mounted right up next to the cooler. Even plugged into the aux PWM header on the GPU itself. Like this it is actually more quiet then the oem fans as they can spin at slower speeds with higher pressure.

    I was tossing this around as the flood of passive cooled used gtx 1080's are on the market, I bought one of those cheap 1080's and zip tied an old cpu fan to it, works better then the server fan seller zip tied to it. You answered my question if I could run 3 x 92 pwm fans into the gpu fan header and not cook something :) I see they offer the bracket kit so you can make your own with fans of your choice.

    I bought something like this back in the early 00's ...back them GPUs tended to have heatsinks but not fans, and if they did have fans they were little screamy things. On that old GPU one of these dropped temps by 12 degre c (20f) instantly!

    If you have a positive pressure case setup and a perforated basement you want to put GPU fans all the way down on top of the basement plate. Really not any different from cases with fan mounting directly on the basement. If negative pressure or solid basement then it wont do much of anything for ya. Set the fans super low. All you're doing is making sure that the GPUs stock fans can pull fresh air instead of recycled air. It's never going to be a huge improvement but it is helpful on setups where you're feeding air into the basement anyways. It's more about controlling where air is flowing versus getting "new" air.

    @madmax2069 Жыл бұрын

    Your issue on why you're not seeing an improvement is because those add-on fans are grabbing from the same stagnant hot air the GPU fans was grabbing air from. And due to the cooling design of that GPU (open air) where the hot air from the GPU exhausts from forces the hot air down along the sides of the case and the GPU just recirculates it. people seem to sacrifice case air flow when they're using a liquid cooler which causes the GPU (and other parts of the system) to suffer due to lack of proper air flow. There is just little to no fresh air movement where the GPU sits (that's the issue with many PC cases, and even more so on a liquid cooled system). While those fans do cause the GPU fans to be more efficient (because the GPU fans don't have to work as hard as grabbing air themselves) but due to grabbing the same air the GPU is grabbing air from you see no improvement. If those fans was grabbing air from the outside and blowing into the GPU you would see a difference. Mounting them above the GPU wouldn't be much difference as the backplate of the GPU doesn't transfer heat that effectively (no fins like of a heatsink). And the GPU itself is going to block the air movement from the bottom of the case so essentially you won't see a difference there either. You just need to find a way to bring fresh outside case air into the bottom portion of the case where the GPU is to where the GPU fans can grab cooler air and make it harder for the GPU exhaust to force the hot air down to where the GPU recirculates the exhaust.

    @@DLMtechgarage I used such fans (because they was a cheap solution) on an old PC I had because the GPU was cooking itself to death, it would work for a little while and either crash or start displaying corrupt graphics, it as just recirculating its own hot air and eventually reach a break point. I made my own holes in the side of the case just below the GPU to mount fans onto (it was two slightly larger fans instead of three smaller fans) to bring in cooler air for the GPU to intake, the temps dropped from high 80c low 90c when gaming to mid 60s lower 70s when gaming and the issues went away. there was a few of these kinds of fans that would be in a two slot case that would get air from slot hole on the rear of the PC case so you wouldn't have to make your own holes.

    Trust me, better cooling doesn't always lower temps, my i7 3770 would stay on 80c, be it intel copper core cooler and/or a 4 heat pipe cooler with a 120mm fan, either ways it would be at 80c, but what I noticed was my performance was wayy better for the same temps Also, GPU fans are obviously very powerful compared to all these useless fans you can buy right there out, please don't buy them, save money. Trust me GPU fans are good enough, and if they're not just buy some old dead GPU and salvage it's heatsink onto your GPU I personally own a RX 470 rn, it's an 80-90w card, but can draw upto 125w with overclocking, so not to mention, it needs a really good cooling, I'm really surprised like, even with a stock cooler this GPU stays under 65-70c while drawing 110w or so, it's just a 2 fan cooler, also I don't overclock it much just because high voltage generally kills your GPU and overclocking is not at all good for any GPU, they're not meant to run at those speeds

I put one across the front of my bench at waist level. I have been reading up on overclocking and the necessity of a high quality water cooling system for optimum performance. the are benchmark videos of air cooling vs water cooling. they are fairly proven results. temperature does affect performance. And, you may have not installed the new fan assembly exactly right. you said yourself, that on a pc with a vented bottom, it is designed to pull air up through the vents. to actually do that you needed to mount the new assembly down on the bottom and seal it around the edges like the fan shroud on you car. Also, you have to have a balanced air flow cold air coming in. hot air going out. the new setup just made a mess of turbulent hot/ cold airs. think about your household A/C system. you have a dedicated air intake vent and a dedicated air output vent. 100% flow through. an air exchange system, so to speak. a PC is kinda like your central furnace. you want to get all of the cold air in, to remove the heat of the GPU, CPU, RAM, etc. and send it out, hopefully with all the heat you've created with your machine. nez pa?

    That depends on if those fans are just recirculating stagnant hot air, or grabbing air from outside the case and blowing directly into the GPU fans. In my case (node 202) having fans below the GPU significantly help GPU thermals as they do grab air from outside the case directly into the fans of the GPU and not just recirculating stagnant hot air. The issue with the video is that those fans while are increasing the efficiency of the GPU fans, it's all for naught because those add-on fans are grabbing from the same stagnant air the GPU fans was grabbing from (it's just recirculating stagnant hot air so you see no gains as a result). In many cases the area of where the GPU sits there is little to no airflow and due to that GPUs cooler design (open air) where the heat gets pumped out from the card it just pushes that hot air down only to be sucked back up into the GPU fans.
