Make Anything Hello ! I would like to know what size of the plate mouth your are using ? (38mm x 40mm) or maybe (38mm x 50mm) ? Thank you for your video is the best one !!!
Excited to see what shenanigans you get up to with that green screen! Just got ours setup and it's awesome 😁

It’s so awesome that Evan and Katelyn visited your channel. I love those guys.
I would also recommend using washers on your fasteners to disperse the stress more over the thin sheet metal, so that it lasts longer.
I'm glad you usually say why you're doing things and not just what you did.
Just finished my build! Thank you for this awesome video!

Buddy, you just saved me money. I'm currently disassembling an old shed. There are three of those florescent shop lights out there. I believe that, through trial and error, I can create some soft and flattering light for the work I have in mind.
Nice man! I was just wanting a light setup, like this.
I made these awesome lights. Thanks for the idea!
I enjoyed this! Thanks for sharing
Very ingenious dude. Literally implementing immediately lol
you never cease to amaze me! i wish my brain worked like yours
Thanks for this tut, i made the same after watching it..super useful
Nice concept Good design😀 Thanks for sharing😀👍
Great video dude. I was thinking of doing something similar, but you make it easier for me and visualize. I don't have a 3d printer, so I will have to rig up something different to steady the light. Thanks again for your content.
This is so smart and resourceful
Awesome job Bro!!!!
Really cool Idea.
COOL! Great job
Nice setup!
Great Idea Thank You.
Thx it helped me 😊
Interesting. I tested a more basic version of that setup with 1 lower power light, velcro and a tripod. White balance is a good thing, along with more lights. Nice setup!
Amazing!
Excellent. I think the best diy plan I saw. Just the light strength is my unknown. I saw a guy building one with tiny LEDS. Tiny is not critical but he had three strings of light. A day light, a warm light, and blue light. By using all or one or two he could play with light effects.
You need to route the electrical cable so it exits the lighting unit from the centre (and not from one end), the means you would be able to run the cable down the tripod - out of the way of snagging - and when you rotate the light from vertical to horizontal the cable won't move . . . even taping the cable to the outside of the light unit with tape would work.

@@make.anything A cable catch which is held together with a threaded bolt on that 3D model would certainly make that possible; just a slit of some kind bound together with metal hardware would centre it almost perfectly. If you're poor with soldering, some wire lugs and a DIY inline switch you can buy at any home improvement shop can give you an inline switch, and let you repurpose the cable.
Run the cord to the pivot point and down a leg of the tripod. Less chance to trip over it and you don't have to wrap up the cord or get it tangled. Stops it from swinging in the breeze or making shadows. Get a power bar for each light. You always need an extra socket near by. Those lights also need a removable light box for diffusers.
great video
This video earned my sub. :)
I built a set of these but added a dimmer switch and ran the cord up the stand close to the ball head and mounted it to the back of the light with Velcro. I am now looking to make a frame to attack to the front for defusing and gels.
Thankyou you saved me
Be aware that cheap LEDs usually have a bad / low CRI ... the Color Rendering Index. That Index goes up to 100 and is a way to express how well the wavelength spectrum is covered. Almost all white LEDs are using a trick of only mixing blue and yellow light with no red! That is because red phosphor is probably 100 times more expensive than yellow. As a result rendering red color with cheap LEDs will not give good result. Professional video LED lighting compensates this problem - with varying degree of success.

Hmm yea, with the older lights I usually used the cool LEDs at 100% and the warm ones at like 20% because otherwise the image got too warm. I'm no pro, but I just wanted things to get way more bright so I can decrease my aperture a bit and get clearer shots.

@Oliver R. That is certainly something that is good to be aware of, and possibly also to "look into" just because it's "good to know what it's about", even if You decide that You "don't care about it" (Then You know what You are compromising) But I would argue that it's likely not an issue for the majority of "KZreadrs" as long as they can "make videos that look good". How ever if they notice some particular problem in their workflow that is related to "colour quality", or if their "interest/subject matter" makes "exact" colour renditions a high priority, then this is certainly an aspect to consider. In short, good to know about but don't prioritise until You know You have problems relating to the colours in Your videos. Best regards.

After looking into the Hykolity lights, they appear to be 82 CRI, which as Oliver R thought, is fairly low. That being said, the shots with these lights look great.

Make Anything CRI has very little to do with Kelvin temperature. You can have warm or cool lights that render color well or poorly.
thought about doing this as well, would be nice if they had a dimmer. have you figured out a soft box solution for these? I think I'd like to have a soft box on my over head lights like these

Can you review the HE3D EI3 Tricolor because it is a good quality 3D printer that has triple extruders and is under $500 also if you do can you give some modeling as slicing software that works well with it since I just got one and I am confused. Also love all the vids🤙🏼✌🏼👌🏼
It seems like that light doesn't have as good color reproduction as the old one. Probably because it's not made for filming
My parts just came in!
I really laughed at the end, which you done like super hero...🤓🤓
Great video! Is it possible to reroute the power cord to the middle to the light so you don't have to worry about it flopping around when you adjust the light to the horizontal position?
@make.anything
5 жыл бұрын
Yup, a few people have mentioned that. I'll probably print a clip to hold the cable at the center
Just an FYI. It looks like Colorado Tripod Company has changed the design of their mini ball head mounts you are linked to. The dimensions are now 40x45 instead of the 40x40 that your STL is made for.
Hey Devin! Any advice for KZreadrs?
If you got an extension cord, you could run the cable from the light up to the ball joint (maybe add a cable clip to the 3d printed piece?) and then down the tripod to the wall. It'd give you a lot more range of motion and it'd look a lot cleaner
@make.anything

You're right, I'm doing this :)
Thanks for useful the tip Devin! I've been using HarborFreight swing arm magnifier lamps for my videos. They work fine, but the light often shows up as a ring of bright light on my desk/project. Do you have that issue with the super bright shop lights?
@make.anything
5 жыл бұрын
I haven't had that problem except if it's a reflective object at just the wrong angle.. These LEDs are in frosted tubes that diffuse the light pretty well.
HOLY SH!!!!TTT u mastermind iconic!!!!
I would somehow secure the power cable near the center - that way the cable will be almost the same length in every orientation and wouldn't just somehow hang there. Even if it actively shortens the cable
Very clever ! Which camera do you use and which mic setup ?

You may want to get some diffuse fabric for those lights, the first shot where you're showing off the lights in use has a very uneven, unpleasant look.

Hi there! I'm making a similar light, same length, but double the width. Do you know if that 3D printed part will work for something like that?
can just use a locking nylon nut and not have to use a 2nd bolt and the 3d printed template
Never mind I just saw your last video and you can : ( but do more of 3D metal projects
Thanks for sharing. One question, why you use filament below the pink printed part?
@HooverM75

it's a raft, probably so he didn't have to worry about 3d printer bed adhesion or warping depending on the size of the print. I have to do that sometimes because I will have a flat part and they start to curl on one edge or something.
@xureality

@@HooverM75 he printed it on the zortrax, their printer uses perforated print beds which holds prints down really well but basically requires rafts all the time.

@@HooverM75 ah thank you, luckly i have no problems with warping on my CR-10 :-)
On your 3D printed part, you can add a block aligned to the rectangular cutout in between the cutout and the bolt hole. This will act as a stop when you are sliding the plate onto the tripod head, allowing you to tighten the lock without needing to hold up the light. Alternatively, you can position the 2nd bolt at just the right spot to do the job of the plastic plate and act as a stop. That would eliminate the need for the 3D printed part, which would then not give you a reason for this video. :P
I think Joel from 3dprinting nerd uses a setup of lights like this
I just purchased a clamp light for a talking head KZread video! Would a 60 watts 800 lumens daylight led bulb be ideal for a key light?
Can you try to make a slingo of the dog from toy story that would be awesome
What's the CRI of the bulbs in there?

What about adding a dimmer control adapter or diffusing it. They seem too bright at full brightness to even have them off camera angled at your face. How about a video about light positioning, diffusing or using reflectors or adding a dimmable switch? Also what is the solution for people who want to do this without owning a 3D printer for the extra part?
Did you consider using stepper drills? It's easier and requires a lot less pressure, and it has many sizes available so you don't have to store so many drill bit sizes. But limited to the sizes of your material thickness.

Nice video.When mounting the light to the tripod is the pink 3d printed piece have to be used? Cause it seems like you can do without it. I have no idea how I would get my hands on the pink 3d printed piece. Thank you, and by the way is there an alternative to the pink 3d printed piece?

I sell the part at Devinmontes.com but if you wanted to fasten the light another way I'm sure something could be done
No matter how many lamps I add in my home office it still feels very dim. It’s embarrassing to me but I am worried of destroying to look of the office. What would you recommend without heating my space. The room is 14 X 12 no closet a large window facing the street and the doors are indoor slimmer French doors.
Wait can you 3D print anything out of metal if so can you do it or not and if so can you please do it it will be cool
Has anyone figured out an alternative for those (most) of us who don't have a 3d printer or laser cutter?
What’s good
Hi il your vids theyre the best i love watching them even though i dont have a 3d pen or 3d printer Edit: i always wanted one but don’t know where to get one
if you put a diffuser over the lights, then you get a more even lighting, which is especially good for greenscreen
wooow
Is there any specific reason to use a raft for that part? (4:23) It seems like it should have enough surface area to hold its own, am I wrong?
@make.anything

The raft is unnecessary but the Zortrax printers lock it into their slicer, unfortunately
I do love a bit of functional ghetto engineering and if it's a bit of a janky set up but works better or as good as the previous set up, who cares!? Saluted!
Put a defuser on it. It's a bit on the harsh side.
Bought 20 lights and "only a few failed"? With that kind of track record, I am not sure it's a good bargain!
Woow
I need some more lighting and I’ll be going this route. Fun fact: In the early 1900s Nikola Tesla developed fluorescent bulbs such as these and powered them completely wirelessly. During his demonstration in New York, he took the audience by surprise and wielded these wirelessly lit bulbs like light sabers, to which a panic and was caused. Several were injured in the resulting stampede.
As kind of a side question to this, how do you get used to staring at the brightest lights without either A: squinting or B: being unable to see anything when you look away? Even if they're far enough apart to only be in your periphery, how are you not blinded every time you turn your head?

Hey I bought a 5000 Lumen LED shop light (4 ft long) to shoot our videos. We have a major problem with glare, though (we make videos with Magic: the Gathering cards, and all the cards are in plastic sleeves...so the glare makes them almost invisible--not good!). I tried sliding on pantyhose as a DIY light diffuser. It was ineffective. Any suggestions? Love the channel, by the way!
@make.anything

With shiny flat objects like the playing cards, it's more about positioning the lights relative to the camera so that the glare doesn't bounce directly into the lens. Depends on angles and such but try one light on either side if shooting straight on
