I am so very sorry for your loss! I lost my older sister at the age of 49 to end-stage liver failure, and then I lost my little brother at the age of 49 with a Widowmaker heart attack. I had the opportunity to study in London, and when I was younger, I looked like Bette Midler. As a matter of fact, I had a whole rugby team, follow me out of the pub and asked me for my autograph. They were sure that I was Miss Midler!! This song came out during my first year of teaching. I explained that God is not watching from a distance, but He is RIGHT HERE!! At. All. Times!!! in 2003, I lost my mom to cancer. My baby was only 50 days old. When she drew her last breath, I sang The Rose by Bette, And I have such a connection to her music, but sometimes I do feel His Holy Spirit pervade my being and know that He will never leave us or forsake us!!! He is the same yesterday, today, and forever!!

I've meet several friends that we were at war with. Also spent eight years in the military. Learned to love them as much or more than my family.

I’m 43 and this song was part of my childhood. I still cannot comprehend the violence of war and poverty, especially now that I’m a mother and I see how loving and peaceful children can be. Whether you believe in a god or not, we can all do better to love and accept each other with kindness. From a distance and close up. ❤️‍🩹

My son was playing this on the piano yesterday, and I had a thought - God does not want to watch us from a distance. In a way, this song reveals the sad reality of most of us - that most of us keep Him at a distance - with doubts and limited understanding. He wants to be nearer. In fact, so near that He would finally dwell in us. But... it's up to each one of us. If the veil is lifted from our eyes - we can see... see ourselves how He sees us. And when we finally realize how far we are from Him, the next step is to condemn our fallen self, to suffer in agony, and finally break our stubborn, proud heart. He will gladly give us a new one. This song is a sad shadow of a seemingly powerless God. But if we open our heart wide enough for Him, this sad reality could change, and we could sing a new song... a Heavenly song!

That's what I was thinking too. It's so sad, the way it is. The way we hate and hurt, you know, it hurts me. It makes me want to fight the system, bc "they" are the enemy. When my puppy-son steals my socks, I would get so mad bc I have to go find the other one. However, one day I realized, he's your son, he thinks it's funny so just let him enjoy it. Mostly though, it wasn't worth waring over. I guess it's time we asked ourselves, what's it really worth? It's easier and spiritually fitting to just get along.

You may not wish to hear this but I feel him when I pray and talk candidly with him . I learned awhile back to always meditate in silence after a prayer for 15 to 20 minutes and just total receptive. This is when I began getting all tingly, I knew I wasn't alone . Then and there. Open up to him just let him hold you. You may not hear anything at all but maybe your hurting will subside and then throughout your day or week , things seem to happen for the better. If a good experience should come . I agree this should be broadcast on loud speakers and wherever they play music elevators, while you're on hold which is so much longer due to Covid. I listen to this song in the morning and it sets the tone for my day. God'swink

Whenever I miss happy moments from my childhood, this is one of the songs that I listen to. What a different ambience it was back then. A popular song was the type with good, universal messages like this one. Thank you, Bette Midler. You're beautiful inside and out 💓

I love this song! I was a premie born 3 months early and I was in the NICU for a month. I shouldn’t of survived. I am 35 today. I know I am here because of gods grace. God was watching over me!

This song is about all that should be good with the world 🌎 But we don’t live in a perfect world. When this song was released, l was suffering betrayals by close friends and only my faith and this song pulled me through the difficult times. Instead of lashing out to get even, the soothing words of this classic reminded me that vegence wasn’t mine. But it’s God’s in His own time. God is watching us ALL from a distance and will deal with us all in/with His perfect timing. We must live right down here on earth so that we’ll be ready when our own time comes to meet Him!😏😔

I honestly mourn the loss of the smooth and classy music from the 90's and the magical music from the 80's. Now days pop music has degenerated mostly into crap. Bette Midler was one of the most underrated singers. Her voice is simply stellar!

Wow, I haven’t heard this song since I was a child. This brought back so many memories. 💕

I remember when this song was played during Desert Shield and Storm in 1991 a lot when my dad was deployed at Fort Hood, Texas. Brings tears to my eyes still listening to it in 2023.

We are all in this mess together. We really need to learn something from this horrible pandemic. Learn to stop the evil, the hate, life is short, people. Stop killing each other and our planet. All that money, power, hoarding wealth won't save you. Love is all we take with us. Beautiful lady, song and video. Stay well everyone.

Um, no we're not "All in this mess together." We are locked down and isolated from one another across the nation. And about 1/2 of us have completely different opinions on some very critical issues. "Love is the answer"...isn't that sweet. The only problem with that is the enemy arrayed against us has nothing but hate for us. Thinking and feeling and virtual signaling accomplishes nothing of any real value except make people feel warm and fuzzy while they curl up with a cup of Chamomile tea. Meanwhile, our Country is being taken over. Make no mistake, America as a Republic was DONE decades ago. But this is their end game and unless "We the People" DO SOMETHING, like gathering at your State Capitol and at least show some form of resistance, or the enemy will just ramp up their operations. Do not look away.
