Great reaction and a good score. Beth's voice just gets better and better over the years and in my opinion is one of the best blues singers around.

It was a great performance from Beth and the band. The blend of all of them was well balanced and a joy to hear 🎉

I recall your first reaction of Beth and Joe. You were so excited to see Joe, you sort of under appreciated Beth. You've certainly have caught on! Great reaction. As a performer she is incredibly captivating. I'm pretty sure Beth wrote this song. I couldn't find credits by anyone else.

Thanks for doing this one. LOL, man, when you said “let’s see where this goes…” I was just thinking, ‘wow, you’re about to be knocked on your ass…’ Great detailed analysis of vocals and the band, good comments on mic control, and interesting comments on drummer Bill Ransom. SONG LENGTH: Beth has very few “3 minute” songs. They’re generally in the range of 4 to 9 minutes, with an average length of 5 to 6 minutes. This is because the primary focus is the music, not the lyrics, and then the development of a real story-not just tossing around descriptive words of imagery. BTW, 8 minutes is the short version of this song… NUMBER OF VIEWS: The 2018 RAH performance has 8.8M views, not 4.7M. There are five uploads above 1 M views totaling about 62 Million views: Audio version (27.7 M); Audio version with Lyrics (21.6 M); RAH Live version (8.8 M); Live in Köln, Germany (2.0 M); and Audio only Beth Hart upload (1.8 M). “CAUGHT OUT” IS A BETH ORIGINAL (almost impossible to cover): Unless you’ve heard Beth sing this song, it’s very UNLIKELY you’ve heard this before. That’s because it’s a BH original-as is most of her music-and the only other people singing her songs are generally Eastern European singers (where covering Beth is a cottage industry). Like most of her work, this is a deeply personal song about being sexually addicted to an abusive man. You also reacted to “Fire on the Floor” which has a similar theme. The “fire” is the sex and her partner was abusive-which was how all her relationships were until she met Scott Guetzkow and married him in 2001 (at age 29). BILL RANSOM: Bill was actually Beth’s drummer back in 1999 just as she was starting to breakout in the US (with “LA Song”) but, as she simultaneously neared death due to drinking, drugs, mental illness, and anorexia, he bolted. He rejoined the band sometime around 2016. For many years he has been a Professor on the faculty of Cleveland State University’s School of Music although I don’t know how he does this with the constant touring. SINGULARLY TALENTED: Beth doesn’t need a band-during concerts, she usually performs 4 to 5 songs alone. In fact, after finishing her first album (“Immortal”) with Atlantic Records back in 1996, the label just wanted her for the 2nd album and not her band at the time. However, Beth has always surrounds herself with top-shelf talent. The reason you kept saying “that was unexpected” was because Beth is insanely creative and so are the people she chooses to make music with… SCORE: You’re right, it doesn’t matter but seriously, a 9.3 is just plain silly. (Obviously, this was your “lower” score). The reason scores have a range is that something has to mark the pinnacle-this performance was that! THANKS...

Great review man. IMHO Beth is the best blues vocalist today. Love her Led Zep cover album!

She’s the best. Love her stuff. Everything I’ve seen from her is great. I agree. She’s better live. Some singers, the good ones at least, sound better live IMO. Isn’t the vocal phrasing more of a typical blues style?

This was amazing - great performances by the Band. Beth is the best blues singer ever. I'm blown away by this song. The Royal Albert Hall is a very special venue and they don't let just 'anybody' in. I agree with everything you said in your review, David - great analysis. The Score is well deserved (was it the lower one? Just kiddin'). Greetings from Germany 🙂

This song is a Beth Hart original, written by Beth and James House. I'm a drum teacher. Playing behind the beat is a common practice in blues. It is supposed to be only the snare that is held back. He wasn't doing anything new, just playing it the proper way. It was a great drum performance.

I remember coming across this very video last year when you put this up for the polls. Like with almost all the polls that you put up, I look up the entries for myself to check them out before voting. Doing that allows me to discover stuff I didn't know before. This performance here blew me away. I was so impressed by her and the vibe of the band was just great. I couldn't believe that it lost the poll that it was on. It was then that I realized that sadly that many don't take the time to look up the choices in the polls before voting. They end up missing out on stuff that they would end up liking! To Ben, the one who requested this, if you're reading this thanks a lot for putting this in the queue! I really enjoyed it! And great review, David! I agree that this deserved the kind of score you gave it! 👍

About to watch DH reaction right now...'Caught Out' (RAH) has got to be the ultimate modern BH performance...and "Am I The One" (Paradiso) the ultimate old school performance.

Have loved your reviews as a musician, that is why i love Beth, she is a musician, not just a singer. Her mic awareness is out of this world. I dont hate this song but not my favorite of hers, compared to most though, superior. Nice to see her and her original band together.... they just seriously know each other so well. Gonna toss a great performance of them here... "shot my baby down/ spanish lullaby" everyone acoustic and Tom Lilly on the stand up bass. Again, i could care less how a band sounds on a recording, it is how they are live and Beth and her band are just a pure joy to hear and see live.

I'm sorry but I am too impatient to have to hear you say that you haven't heard this version with Beth Hart "you don't think I don't think I did maybe I did no I didn't I'm sure I didn't well I'm not sure" SIX FREAKING TIMES!! 🥶🤪 Are people seriously that thick that that was necessary?
