I just watched Queen's Gambit and watched this fantastic edit. There's something incredible and very human about Beth's story. I doubt many of us will ever become a chess grandmaster and world champion, but being on the edge of some kind of self-destruction only to have the love and support of those around you carry you out of that darkness is so human and touching and relatable. Beth started as a pawn and she became a queen. She built herself up, but much like how a pawn would be pushed into becoming a passed pawn which then promotes to a queen, the pawn would've never reached that promotion square if it wasn't for all of the other pieces aiding and protecting it on its way there. Beth is a self-made woman. But Beth is also a girl who was saved and nurtured by love. Alma's, Sheibel's, Jolene's, Townes', Beltik's, Benny's, and in a way, her acceptance of herself where she was willing to love herself for who she is and where she came from. Queen's Gambit is a story about chess, but also a story about love and how it can mend and heal and build a person up.

This song choice was genius cause it really shows Beth's character arc perfectly. Her spiralling, social isolation and workaholic nature driving everyone away until the last few episodes when its those who love her, from her friends to love her adopted mother gave her that inspired her to fight back and keep the house, to Mr. Shaibel silent fatherly love for her?? She literally couldn't have won without all of them and its beautiful because despite being a prodigy she still needed other people.

@scaraheim2624 That's what I wanted to say! I failed to look too much into it the first time, but upon rewatching the show the second time, I noticed the closed circle, like a nod to Mr Shaibel who taught her the first steps in chess. It was a beautiful thing. I also got more emotional this time when Jolene re-entered into her life. In all honesty, Jolene has such a strong character (probably the strongest mentality in the show, given her circumstances, the disadvantages and how far she went in life and in a good way) and a kind, warm heart towards Beth, I found her to be so much more beautiful this time around. And I think that while the first time watching it, I was more impressed by the final chess game, this time around I got more emotional about the people. It is no greater treasure in life than to have beautiful hearted people around you, who can make your own heart feel safe and who you know you can depend on. I think the best episodes for me are still the ones with Alma, that hasn't changed. But I noticed other things, which I missed the first time. I want a second season, honestly.

This.. this is literally the best Netflix series i have watched so far. The aesthetics, the cinematography, the setting, the ACTING, the wardrobes and the talent. I loved every second of it. This series is all about how we tend to lose ourselves sometimes when we are alone and how it takes nobody but us to save us from us. Beth Harmon was the perfect example to demonstrate that. She's her own heroine. It wasn't just about winning the game but winning against herself and fall in love with like she did when she was with her mom, after all the struggles she's been through and how happiness depends on how you'd create it and not find it. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS SERIES TO Y'ALL. You'd just.. love it!

To me it's right next to Dark and The OA when it comes to Netflix series. I can definitely recommend both of them. Dark is like a complex puzzle that you have no way to solve at first watching and it takes at least one or two re--watchings to fully understand. Their attention to details is amazing, too, people have been trying to find a hole in the plot but as far as I know there weren't really found any. The Queen's Gambit is definitely #1 when it comes to this year's new shows though.

I absolutely loved The Queen's Gambit! It's by far the best thing I've seen in years! It grips you emotionally and takes you on a fun ride of highs and lows. I've watched it twice now with the same emotional high and saw a lot that was missed from first watching! I can't explain the obsessive attachment I have to this movie experience and the character Beth Harmon! The Movie making was just epic on all levels!

This is such a good song choice! One of the best aspects of the show was that even though beth never had an actual biological family there were always people there fo her, loving her, supporting her. Obviously she had a lot of rough patches where she felt alone and pushed people away from her but the ultimate thruth was that there were always people there that she could've considered family. She literally wouldn't have made it alone
