Why We Love it
We don't have an inverter in our RV and we weren't ready to invest in solar. We actually bought 2 of these inverterss to use to power up our devices (laptops, cell phones, MIFIs) while boondocking / dry camping without hookups. It helps reduces the need to power up the generator simply to recharge our electronics, which reduces noise, smell and cost of running the generator as much. It's also handy o take one with us in the car to charge cell phones, camera batteries and laptops, and for use in rental cars while traveling out of town. It was a small and worthwhile investment that enables us to keep charged and working while enjoying being out in the boonies!

    I use to use these items overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan all the time. They worked great for charging extra batteries for radios. I usually preferred a wattage of anywhere from 750-1000 watts. Good review guys.

    The Besttek is good. I found a 12 to Lenova W550S (my laptop) adapter that runs the laptop directly from battery without the inverter. It takes a cigarette light plug or in my case directly connected to the battery terminals of the Bestek. All cases covered. Over and out.

    This is able to run my tv, led lights, printer and charge my laptop all at the same time at about 250 watts! Best part is the cooling fan only stays on for a minute or two then shuts off for another 4-6 minutes.

    I've been wanting one of these to run my crockpot while we travel. I know I would need one with more wattage, but didn't know how to figure that into a crockpot. I'd love to have solar one day. I don't think hubby is all that interested. He loves the comforts of an RV park. Maybe I should say Resort! LOL

    Haha. Yes I don't know if they make these big enough to run a crockpot while driving! That would require a genny I expect. I usually make my meals in a crockpot before we leave and just heat up when we get there. I've only cooked once while driving - and that was a chicken pot pie in the convection oven! Running the generator the whole way to use a crockpot would be an expensive meal!

    I purchased an inverter with square wave and when I plugged my laptop I get a buzzing sound from the power brick. Since this only seems to be available online I'm hoping it really does work well with converting for use with a high-end laptop. Are you sure your laptops or bigger electronics are not being damage by this inverter?

  • @drutgat2

    Many thanks for this. Can you have the inverter plugged in while the car engine is running, either when the car is in motion or stationary? If so, can you have the devices you are charging plugged in to the inverter while the inverter is plugged into the running motor/engine?

    what does the back look like, and how would I get a cord to go from the inverter to the battery, since most 12v plugs are only going to be 15A to get more then 180watts out of this thing it would have to get run directly to the battery?

    High end appliances are usually fine since they have ac to dc rectifiers. It’s the cheap things like fans, fridges, heaters, hairdryers and microwaves that have ac motors that need to be worried about.

    Hi Steve, yes it will run down the coach battery but not by much - we recharged it with our generator - but if you look at today's review on our solar suitcase, you will see we can now minimize genny use and this solar solution is charging our coach! batteries nicely! Doing well - thanks for your thoughts.

    Hi ! Thanks for sharing. I picked up 1 of these with the idea of leaving it on my small fridge (80 to 100 watts) and buying an additional 600 watt PSW to run my TV and DVD in the evening ( approx 400 ). Do you think that I would save any battery life as apposed to having my 1000 RSW watt running 24/7 !!t hanks Don!!

  • @kimmer6

    @kimmer6

    It won't take the starting current of the fridge which is well over 300 watts. The red fault light comes on and the inverter quits. My fridge runs at 85 watts so the 1000 watt Renogy pure sine wave unit is the one I use to power the fridge. The cooling fan never comes on when the fridge is running.

    I have one of these. It's just okay. It's broadcasts a lot of electrical noise causing the track pads on two different models of MacBook Pros (2011 and 2016) to act extremely erratically. This renders the computers usable only for typing, web surfing, playing videos-but no graphics, spreadsheet entry can be difficult selecting a cell. The computers didn't have to be plugged into the inverter (via the powerblock) . I don't get why people do these reviews holding the thing in their hand instead of using it. An improvement on the ten minutes of obsessive 'de-boxing' nonsense. This is a device that is supposed to perform a certain way. As a power source, simple enough. What are the issues with an inverter? Full sine wave verses non-full sine. Okay, so don't burn out an electronic device, but do something else. Perhaps Road Gear Reviews's Windows laptops don't have the track pad issue. There's probably a very good reason why Amazon dropped the price on this item and then discontinued it.

    Hm, 2 months after your comment and Amazon continues to sell it. There are several reviewers who have put these on o-scopes and confirmed the output is pretty clean - especially compared to higher priced competition. Perhaps you got a bad unit, or you're using one of those replacement Apple Magsafe adapters that are notoriously bad? If not, have you tried putting a toroid on the power to see if it reduces the effect?
