Planted my oak leaf in 1985, still going strong and in fact I have taken cuttings through the years so have several more around the property. They are gorgeous if planted in the right location.

Love my Hydrangea quercifolia 'Ruby Slippers'! Planted in part shade, it has successfully weathered temps up to 112 degrees that we had last summer in the Central Valley of California. After the amazing amount of rain this spring, there are more flowers than ever, almost completely hiding the foliage & the perfume is almost overwhelming. An absolute star in this hot area. 🥰

I bought a Tardiva yesterday on an impulse while out and about. Can't find too much info on it and it didn't make your top 5 either :) :) Any input on it for zone 6??

I had a Tardiva hydrangea tree for years here in my Ohio garden. It is very similar to Quickfire (paniculata) but later blooming. It is very hardy and very easy to grow. Mature height would be around 6-8’ tall and wide.

Thanks for the video! We have a White Robe. We are in South Florida and keep it in our lanai. It receives sun for about 2 hours in the morning and then is shaded rest of the day. The flowers have turned from a stunning white to a dark green. Can anything be done to turn the blooms back to white? Thanks.

That is the natural color progression of this variety but hopefully the plant will continue to produce new blooms for you to enjoy the crisp white color.

Hydrangea quercifolia Snowflake. Not under patent, and not comparable to any other double. The best quercifolia. The best hydrangea. The best deciduous shrub.

I would advise to wait until the soil is more workable, especially if your soil needs amended with organic matter or compost. Late March to early April would be a great time to start planting.
