This is definately not accessible for a wheelchair user who must transfer from chair. If you can stand sure. I am a para with pretty good upper arm strength, I would not be able to transfer to the drivers seat and drive the thing. (with added handcontrols) All it does is swivel, it's too far of a transfer. It is set up very awkward. The bathroom/toilet is also inaccessable for a chair transfer. The Door and lift is way more complicated than needs to be. On my van I operate my ramp & door from my keychain, ONE BUTTON and done.Even the cupboards look too high with the pull down. As with 99% of companies who try to make accessible products, they seem to forget that the entire problem that needs solving is for the person using the wheelchair is seeking 100% independance. It's as if they think we're just a passenger who needs to get in the vehicle, travelling with some sort of caregiver or something. While 99% don't need one. We want complete independance, regardless if we're travelling with someone or not.

We have the Roam and your comments are on point for those looking for 100% independence. Works for our family member who does not need to transfer to driver seat. She has transferred fairly easily to passenger seat. Toilet transfer is okay as you can back up w toilet to your left. Most difficult transfer is into bed. There is no room to turn sideways so you are facing the bed and that is doable but awkward. After 6 months use we are very happy. Always compromises here right? I would suggest Winnebago consider a floor plan that keeps kitchen as is and eliminates shower stall. Then have split fold down bed where current bench seat/bed is. Could allow deploying half the bed while allowing wheelchair user to pull up along side for transfers. Would sacrifice indoor shower but you have an outdoor option off the back. Then just need to design in cassette toilet perhaps towards rear.

Only good for transporting a person who remains in the middle in chair. They should not make such a claim. BUT they could get someone like yourself to show them what doesnt work and why.

This is a great looking unit, however, there are a few things I would change up to have it a "fully accessible unit". I would install the microwave down lower so a wheelchair user can use it. Also, I didn't notice if the sliding door was a powered sliding door or not, It would be much more user friendly for a wheelchair user. Lastly, It would also be a nice option if the front seats were powered to go up and down to make it easier to transfer on and off from a wheelchair. I have been looking into "VanLife" for some time now. Being in a wheelchair for 10 years now turning 50 this year, this is something I have been seriously looking at doing for the rest of my life. I love traveling and would love to take my time traveling Canada and the US, staying in places I'd never be able to see. I've seen a lot of videos of people being sponsored to do this but no one has sponsored someone that uses a wheelchair, wink wink. They're very expensive to purchase. Someday

Definitely a great unit, but class b vans are outrageously expensive, and one that is wheel chair assessable class b probably would be almost double the cost. Probably not affordable for most folks.

To those commenting, yes lots of limitations for wheelchair user looking for 100% independence. And maneuverability is not fantastic. But Winnebago packed a lot into a relatively compact vehicle and overall very thoughtful in their design for typical user. My family is quite pleased 6-8!months in w 2023 Roam on 19 foot Ram. Having spent way too much time on this topic I’d suggest those with very specific transfer and independent accessibility needs continue to offer Winnebago design feedback and in meantime consider a custom van designer out there. Given the price point on the Roam you can probably custom build a camper van for same or possibly less? Cheers.

Please go back and rewatch your own video and notice everytime you had to raise your arms to open cupboards, microwaves, touch the fantastic fan, utilize the cubby next to the fan. Also, note the height of the countertop. Now sit down in a chair and try to do all that again.

Nice review. We are happy w our 2023 Roam and chose the pop top option for more sleeping. You didn’t show the rear storage which is ample nor the very user friendly plumbing controls. I would add that the cassette toilet is super easy to use and being new to RV world I’m happy to not deal w black water disposal. Also point out that there is no propane and the heating system runs off either electricity when plugged into 30 amp or off the Ram fuel tank when off grid. I’m just starting to use the heater off grid and so far 👍👍.

We have one. I wish the cabinets were more updated. Whoever signed off on the color of the cabinets needs to retire. Why not make it look more spacious with a lighter color? Now I have to spend 1k to get them vinyl wrapped a glossy white.

Yeah. I also don’t love the darker cabinets. Had not thought about having them wrapped in lighter color. Great idea! My main quibble w 2023 Roam is lack of power front seats especially for driver. Adjusting manually while on the move is awkward and you cannot dial things in as finely as one is used to. I made the mistake of sitting in Airstream Mercedes Class B. Those front seats are AMAZING 😎

    1. Storage space high up, hard to use for many in wheelchair users. 2. Also if SCI is high, finger functions are gone so all kind of pull, grip, handles etc pretty useless. 3. Toilets, well totally another dimension since you may not be able to sit on normal seat.. 4. Sleeping, you should be able to place wheelchair next of the bed in any position and leave space in front of the chair for transfer. 5. Accessible to drivers seat from living area would be great also..

Not really any counter space for it. We purchased an induction cook top that stores away easily. That said I think Winnebago could consider eliminating interior shower and this would offer opportunity to expand the galley and counter tops.

If anyone has any information or resources they could share, or if anyone is able to offer a donation or assistance in any way, I would be incredibly grateful. I'm facing some limitations at the moment, so any support would mean a lot to me. If you're able to help or have any leads, please feel free to reach out to me. I have one and there are a number of ways it can be improved to help the handicapped person. The control for the lift has a DOOR button on it but the door is manual. Trying to open this door from the outside in a wheelchair is a real chore. Then after you get it open you have to back up to deploy the lift. POWER DOOR PLEASE!! The rear bench seat and seat belt alignment is terrible. The seat belt shoulder anchor is too high and pulls the harness up instead of back. It needs to be mounted 18 inches lower and onto the back of the van. The back of the seat slants too much and if you are short your legs do not reach the floor. This is better as a bed. The seat belts for the front two seats comes out the back of the seat so cuts into the neck, you need to buy pads to protect your neck. They could have used the standard Promaster seatbelt system. HIRE A SEAT BELT CONSULTANT! The low grab bar for the toilet is in the way, get rid of it. It prevents you from using the toilet sideways facing the door.
