Today we're at a full day of wedding photography with the Sony A7 IV (Sony A74, A7m4) and using just the Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8 lens. It's a variable aperture lens, which means at 35mm it's f2, then at 50mm it's f2.2 then around 85mm it's f2.8.
Overall for wedding photography, this is an incredible lens. I will for sure be using it again in the future.

So much gold here on how to confidently but politely direct people. I've said so many times that confidence is the single greatest attribute a wedding photographer can have - but you can't be a jerk about it.
I have exact the same set up in 2022 I shot about 35 weddings so far on the beach… I love it, gotta be aware of shooting against the sun and that flare… I got this set up for first time in rainy day and wind over 20 miles an hour… Held up okay fantastic!
I did a senior couple shoot at a park recently and showed up with a bag of lenses and never took the Tamron 35-150 off the camera once. It's a wonderful lens with great glass, is very fast, and tack-sharp. I still love my Sony 16-35, an exceptional lens for wide angle, to use for those tight and wide shots. But I can easily see how you can now get by with just this one lens for assignments like this.
Thank you so much for doing a video talking about this lens!!! Now it’s going to be on my wishlist!!!
I remember when sigma and tamron were terrible budget options, they have come so far in the last 7 ish years. This lens sounded great when it was announced, versatile range and a fast aperture for a variable lens. Looks like a solid choice for that do anything lens

This is my setup (a74 & 35-150) I use for weddings! What a game changer for me not to have to switch lenses all day. I’ve shot photo and video for several weddings with the combo and it does such an amazing job.

I'd add a small'ish 16-35F4, or a really tiny Tamron 24F2.8, which also doubles as an excellent macro'ish lens. I did a wedding once with just the Tamron 28-75 on an A7III. Ended up cropping in too much for certain shots. This 35-150 is a game changer.

@brendanoconnorphotography

@greenbarn.videography there's really not much to say. I simply keep my white balance on "shade" 99% of the time that I'm outside. It just makes my editing process easier. Obviously you can change the WB In post (and I do) but auto WB Is too unreliable. And I like the warmer look of shade. So when I get my photos into lightroom and they are already close to how I want the WB, it just makes it easier. Hard to explain. It really doesn't do anything. Other than make the process of shooting easier because I'm not fumbling around trying to set the WB.
Great video!!! I use the 28-75 and 70-180 on the other body. Looking forward to trying the big boy!
I used the Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8 last weekend at a convention. Great lens!
That lens definitely is a good all in one setup. I've been a lover of prime lenses lately. I use to rock the typical 24-70, and 70-200 for my go to.. Then I switched to a 24 1.4 and a 135 1.8 and i've never looked back. Tack sharp photos, great for video, low light is amazing and the bokeh is just on another level.

What! I’ve wanted this so bad. It would make the tamron 35-150 on Sony even more powerful.
I have my A7iv setup the same way even with the aps-c mode on my c1. Just a tip that I got from Dan Fox. Try setting the zebras on the camera at 102 and that way you’ll know if you are blowing out any of the white while in auto iso. This camera has so much dynamic range I haven’t had a situation where I could bring back an underexposed image even 3+ stops if you just turn either the iso down or exposure compensation dial.

I'd pay big money for a 35-85 f/2. Or even 35-80 f/2. That'd eliminate the need to lug around two bodies with a 35 and 85. Canon 28-70mm is tempting but 70 just falls short at the telephoto end.

What an informative video! I'm an A7Siii video guy, not a wedding photographer and I've got a question about your photo developing. In the video when you're taking photos you're adding the photograph to the video to show the audience. The photos seem much brighter than the video...is that a choice you're making in post? They're clearly not overblown...but they're...artistically bright? Again, love your stuff...just curious.
Great review on this lens as it is one of the main reason why I switched to the Sony FF body over all the other FF camera manufactures. When paired with the new Sony A7RV with 8-stop IBIS, the 60MP FF with the sharp Over Sampling 26MP APS-C images that is sharper than the 33MP image from the A7IV while still providing incredible flexibilities that covers most of my needs. Tamron 35-150mm f/2.0-f/2.8 focal range including in APS-C mode: @ f/2.0: 35mm-39mm (APS-C range: 52.5mm - 58.5mm / Total available range: 35mm - 58.5mm) @ f/2.2: 40mm-59mm (APS-C range: 60.0mm - 88.5mm / Total available range: 40mm - 88.5mm) @ f/2.5: 60mm-79mm (APS-C range: 90.0mm - 118.0mm / Total available range: 60mm - 118.0mm) @ f/2.8: 80mm-150mm (APS-C range: 120.0mm- 225.0mm / Total available range: 80mm - 225.0mm) I prefer carry this one lens than have to miss precious moments during lens swapping, not to mention dealing with increasing frequency of sensor cleaning and dust entering into different lenses and while have to carry the weight of all the extra lenses on a much larger and heavier camera bag.
Love your "review"! Great work, mate! After working with this lens for about 18 months on all kinds of different assignments I am still looking for a flaw because I simply can't wrap my head around what Tamron did here. I was a prime shooter for years (outside the 200-600 G) and wasn't happy with the occasional need for the 24-105 F4. It is a very good (and more importantly stabilized) lens that does an amazing job but I was missing the shallow depth of field and 105mm never felt that much more than 70mm to me. Now 150mm F2.8 are something wild for below € 2.000,-- (central european price back in spring 2022). This lens practically lives on my a7iv while I use the a7r3 with the 20mm F1.8G for the wide angle shots. One big main cam combined with a small one for wide angle. Works perfect for me, though, I am looking forward to exchange the a7r3 for an r5 or the upcoming a7v and maybe getting the 12-24 Sony or 14-24 Sigma for the wide angle stuff. Overall: If you are a working photographer in the field of ANYTHING --> Get this lens as a workhorse or even as a backup. It covers a lot of prime lenses and there is yet to come a customer to me that complains that I am not shooting with the newest G Master lineup 🤭
The new car is way better for interior recording Taylor. 💯 Honestly wish more photographers would make videos like your's. Gear reviews are starting to get a little long in the tooth, but when you actually use the thing, so much better.

I love old cars for weddings. I had a couple that drove a model T Ford and we got some of the most epic wedding photos with it. I’m excited to get my new 35-150 for my two weddings I have coming up. Are usually use a 35 mm and 85 mm F1.4 throughout the day. And when I do the couples solo shoot I try to incorporate the 135 mm F1.8 GM for some of the shots. But seeing I’m gonna have all these focal links in one lens I am curious what I should use for my second body. The widest that I have is the 24-70 F2.8 so I’m wondering if I should have that on my second body or still keep my 85 mm F1.4 for those nice crisp bokeh shots

hi Taylor, Great Video but I have a question, does this lens have auto aperture change while zooming? I am a Indian wedding photographer and is this lens great for an all-in-one type lens
It's a great lens and I've been thinking about buying it. But it's pretty heavy and doesn't perform well in direct lighting so I went for the Sigma 24-70 f2.8 art lens that I can also use as a travel lens, that lens in combination with the 135mm f1.8 GM gives everything you need at a wedding with shallow depth of field for the portraits and a wider fov compared to the 35mm of the Tamron. Still waiting for the 85mm 1.2 though.
