I find the best tool for sealer is a car wash sponge with a stocking over it. No LInes and your work comes out beautifully.

@@SusanCliftonArtist I got this tip from Molly at Molly’s Artistry. She takes a car wash sponge (very smooth) and places it I side of a k eye high stocking. Makes 3 passes of the varnish (after each one dries) and it does a beautiful job. I was so happy and you will be, too. Give it a try

Hi, I am new to collage and painting in general. Do you 'seat in" your leaves and flamingo on background paper? it looks so smooth. I paint a background painting then glue on painted and fairly thick watercolor paper. I love the abstract effect I'm getting, like a Cecily Brown style abstract, but up close it looks ":stuck on". I was wanting some kind of leveling medium to level out the glued on pieces of paper, so they don;t look so stuck on. Any advice?

The papers are either copy paper or rice paper. Both are thin so when I glue it on the wood panel it's very smooth and flat. Resin would look great and will level it all out. If you use a leveling medium it will settle in and still show the thickness of the paper. Resin is a learning curve for sure. So practice on something small. I have some videos from over a year ago that show how to use Art Resin. Hi Susan. Thanks for this video! After watching this, I got the pouring medium and I applied two coats to some collages on wood panel. I like the way it looks and I'm wondering if I really need to follow up with the GAC200 afterward? Is it that you just prefer the look of doing it that way, or is the GAC200 neccesary for protection?

I do the GAC 200 first to seal it then I do the pouring medium. But if you didn't have any problems then you didn't need to seal it. Sometimes when the papers are very thin the pouring medium can get under them and it changes the color and looks spotted. I had that problem with resin as well.

Can you do this to printed canvas ? I glued a paper collage onto a printed canvas and I want to make sure the products don't interfere with what's printed on the canvas Thank you !

GAC 200 is for hard surfaces like wood panels. You shouldn't use it on canvas. There is probably a GAC product that is better for canvas. I would ask them at the art supply store. I recently did a paper collage on a printed canvas and I had no problems. The printed canvas was fine. The paper still needs to be sealed. I'm going to use a gloss varnish. 2 coats.

Are you using two different products or just two coats of gac200?

2 different products. After the GAC200 dries I use liquitex pouring medium. It dries clear and glossy

How do you cut the edges of the paper so it's flush with the wood? Or do you just line the paper up carefully and not cut?

If I recall on this artwork, I lined up the papers that were in the mosaic part but the monstera leaf I probably had it hang over and then turn the panel over after it dries and cut close to the panel edge. You have to angle in the xacto blade to get a clean cut. I hope that explains it for you.
