Best way to put a patch on a Leather Motorcycle Jacket [without a needle]

The idea of sewing a patch on just didn't appeal so we looked at alternatives and the answer was pretty simple.
Look, if you know someone who has hands of steel or can use a sewing machine, all is well and good but for the rest of us, its a real pain in the Butt.
Theres a very simple alternative that is also cost effective.

There's a reason MCs hand sew patches. It's part of the experience. My husband's hands are gushing blood after the first few stitches but he said it's worth it knowing he's joining a good community.

Buddy bought an old leather sewing machine off eBay to rebuild car interiors. I use that. There are a TON of old machines out there that work perfect even after 100 years of operation. You could buy one. Use it a couple days and then sell it for what you bought it for.

I used Gorilla Glue Super Glue on all my patches and a roller to apply equal pressure rolled each patch for 45 seconds. They've been on my vest for over a year only the back patches I've had to touch up here and there, like a corner will start to lift because the back of my Vesy makes contact with shit all the time. But yeah it's faster, easier and cheaper than paying someone to do it. Just make sure you have your measurements right and marked with a grease pen after the patches are on you can get rid of the grease pen marks with a piece of electric tape. I also use an Iron after I Glue them down too.

I have three vests for my Harley and one of them i specifically used E6000 glue and I just marked the area around the patch and roughed the leather up a bit with some grit paper and it has held so strong but you have to be very careful not to put to much because the glue will ooze out of the sides and looks like crap and it’s a bit tough to get off but If you do hapoen to have it come out of the sides some tweezers will peel it off nicely just do it within the first 24 hours. Cheap glue and it works good so hope this helps someone out there!

Usually there is someone locally, often a shoe repair shop than can do it with a machine. I just mark it with a pencil then tack in place with glue then off to the person with a heavy duty sewing machine.

Great job! A fellow Triumph owner here too! I have a 2018 Rocket III and a 2016 Triumph Tiger! You have great taste!! The Rocket is my daily rider from when the first snowflake melts to the first one falls. I put close to 12,000 miles on her every year. I just finished putting 14 military patches on my husband's vest to commemorate his retirement from the Army. There was no way I was going to sew those things through that thick leather, my fingers would turn into hamburger and it would have killed my sewing machine! Needless to say, yes, you do need good ventilation to apply this contact cement, and a tip for your next application, Lay wooden skewers on top of the surface that you are applying the patch to after the glue has dried. Pull one skewer out at a time to lay the patch onto the prepared surface. This will help to align the patch on top without accidentally allowing the patch to drop onto the prepared surface when you are not wanting it to. Second, get a rolling pin, cover it with plastic wrap and use that to apply even pressure onto the patch and get a good bond to the product. Have a great day and keep those Triumphs thundering on those roadways!!

Good video. Just a suggestion when using a contact cement like that you should use either a roller or a mallet to really ensure the bond. It also helps when applying to leather to rough the surface a bit.

Thanks for this. I have read about gluing patches onto leather elsewhere, but it's very helpful to see it done. One question, do you have to do anything extra to glue on patches that have an iron-on material already applied to the back surface?

I sometimes use glue ( for small patches) but, dont use tape, just dressmakers chalk draw around patch for posision. Just check glue is clear finish(not white) fabric glue to leather compatible! Other method is using hemming tape( cheap, flexible)! Draw around placement, cut hemming tape to size, t towel damp, iron set to medium, place patch, damp t towel, then, iron on! Done immediately as cooled 30secs. No waiting! Boom! Then go rock the look!

It costs a bit more, but get them sew on, they look way better if done properly and are not going to start falling off, plus you can remove them without making a big mess of the leather!

I Glued all my Patches on using Gorilla Glue brand Super Glue. Just measure and mark with a grease pen or a chalk pen, put the Glue on the back of the patch put in place use a hand roller to apply equal pressure around the patch for 45 seconds and use some electric tape to remove the chalk or grease pen marks. I used it on my top and bottom Rockers, Center Patch, even the patches on the front. Lasted over a year now. There's been some small sections on the back where I've had to reglue part of a Patch down because the back of my Cut makes contact with a lot of shit. I've even done other members Patches. I've tried other brands of Super glue but Gorilla Glue Super Glue is king.
