i think the cuttings like the same conditions as full plants. the problem is replicating those conditions indoors in pots. needs super well draining mix and regular watering. imagine an epiphyte or semi in the understory of a rainforest. there the plants hold onto bark of trees and get lots of oxygen and regular rain and generally moist conditions. crucially, it's not bark that is ground up and packed into a container. this kills plants young and old. i've started using those moss poles that you fill with media, and they should be kept moist, whilst the media in the pot needs to be very free draining, unlike the moss pole. unfortunately the ground up peat moss and perlite tend to pack down with regular watering, which makes the potted cutting weak over time.

this is super helpful! my mom gave me a flamy katty cutting and I've been rooting it over the winter (it took a long time bc of that lol) and this is now the 2nd time I'm attempting to pot it up. the first time it had root but they were a little small and ig the soil got too dry cuz I notice the leaves wrinkling so I took it out and back in the water it went (it was rooted in water so I could monitor them) but I just posted it up again since its pushed out a *ton* of root growth the these last few weeks of winter and I'm happy with the lengths of them! wish me luck ill try and keep a better eye on the soil dryness these next few weeks! >:)

Hello, very helpful video and your channel in general - all very enjoyable to watch and informative! I wanted to ask, what happened to the single cutting that hadn't quite rooted yet? Did you pot it up later as a single cutting in its own pot or did you add it to one of the other two previous pots? 🤔

Thank you. I've not but the principle should remain the same. The more roots there are the better chance you have. Also there is no rush to pot on. They will happily grow in water provided you give it nutrients.

@msrj899 Hey! One year later I know haha. Only to advise people who will see this comment that there are plants really easy to propagate like syngonium or potus and some others don't act in the same way, like in this case croton. I've cut some stems in early January this year and only one of four have roots of nearly 1cm large. Had the Best care with the plants like in the cutting process, cleaning with aloe Vera for avoiding plagues and changing water each 3days to avoid also mosquitoes and rotten. Be patient and consistent, if doesn't work go another time for it ❤
