UE5's Lighting looks realistic, games made in Unity are very light weight, Lumberyard, Duniya and COD games, all uses a variant of Cry engine, but the Decima and this new Engine which I never heard of (Blackspace) is really impressive. Those particle effects of Blackspace engine are, Waah!

you guys really think blackspace looks that good? It kind of looks like a suped up last-gen renderer to me. Yeah the particle effects look great... but the frame pacing looks rough, i saw a good amount of pop-in... simple geometry... hair clipping through character faces... there's just a lot that pulls me out of it. IMO, UE5 looks wonderful. Unity looks great. Decima looks great. And it's not in here... but Snowdrop is pretty nuts!

the problem with blackspace is literally how odd the visuals look, if my particles hiding everything per hit and makking my player view go shadowed on edge and having a dizzy effect as screenfilter is atleast for me a reason to not touch it cause i know i will have after 30 minutes headache of looking at that, aside the point of motion sickness by the constant zoom in and out on every attack

I think this is a bad way to formulate a question. 1) It highly depends on how you USE an engine. All of them have features of great visual fidelity, but the art is in composing them together. 2) Performance. You can have beautiful games that don't run very smoothly because of poor optimization. 3) Memory usage. Yeah Nanite may look very good, but memory usage is quite high - too high for average consumer platforms. Plus, the part where you show "dynamic area lights" for CryEngine - that technology has been mainstream since 2016, so that's barely news. Also, the area lights cast no shadows. There's also the factor that certain engines have been customized/built for certain types of games. For instance, EA's Frostbite is apparently very bad for developing RPG games, while it excels at other things.

Ever since Horizon Zero Dawn that engine has looked incredible and, barring HZD's PC port at launch which runs great now after a few patches, runs really well. Horizon Forbidden West is an absolute visual showcase. The PC version of that one is going to be insane. Naughty Dog has a great engine too, their games pushing the graphical envelop and always running pretty much perfectly out of the box.

i think all engines can be the best or worst depending on how you as dev using it. it is also a matter of genre, the time theme in what your game plays and also audio(sfx), seeing cool stuff is one thing, hearing it is another level of experience, your game is literally nothing without a good sfx design. as example, would you say a rocket launcher is cool without a impactful sound on launch and impact area? i think its great, both vfx and sfx need to meet each other on a perfect thin line to give the user the best experience with the product. another example is...music, simple background music enhances the gameplay of games alot more than just the vfx. as big example dmc games. this games without music are literally nothing.

Basically, all these engines produce very good looking content. The question remains: how does it run? Is it stable? Flexible? How well does it scale? Also, adaptibility for smaller developers largely depends on support. I tried my hand at UE5 and that engine has great potential for someone willing to invest enough time to actually make something great (in contrast to my small hobby attempts ;) ); it also has a huge amount of resources for anyone seeking help in any aspect. The other engines I have never tried.

Many AAA engines are basically real-life looking, it depends on what games are they creating. You definitely cannot have UE5 on max quality with the huge open-world scale game, consoles won't be able to handle it.

Rage and Unreal are the top ones but there is one in particular that has been hidden and apparently the genre has not exploited it well. If I'm talking about Forza Tech Engine, you can't give an opinion now until the first Fable gameplay comes out and see what happens. It performs so well in another genre more loved by the gaming community, but if it looks as realistic as in the small portions of gameplay like the one in which a fireball is thrown, I can say that it will surpass Unreal and Rage, but well, those We will leave conclusions for when something else is shown.

CryEngine5 > UE5 > Decima > Frostbite CryEngine is the king of rendering. They had SVOGI years before UE5's equivalent Lumen. And nobody can touch their outdoor scenes with a 10ft pole. UE5 is a big step up from the plastic-y looking UE4 though. I don't know much about Decima but it looks nice here, not CE5 or UE5 nice, but better than Frostbite. Frostbite has aged, it's not bad looking by any means, but it's not the graphical powerhouse of the FPS world it once was. I would even say that the MW2 engine (which is still based on the RTCW/Quake3 engine at its core mind you, because John Carmack is a genius and some of his code from 1999 is essentially impossible to improve) has basically caught up with Frostbite at this point.

It brought unseen-before graphics quality so it motivated people to buy new hardware. Today? Everything must run on dirt-cheap consoles or it won't sell. No wonder developers aren't spending their money on more advanced techniques. Consoles put a cage on game capabilities and "gamers" applaud the approach.
