Best Value Humidors: How To Get The Best Cigar Storage For Your Money
What is value for money in a humidor?
It may be something like a tupperdor, a Boveda bag, or something higher-end. We're not necessarily talking low-cost, but rather high quality proportional to cost.
For example, Daniel Marshall humidors are a great value for a made-in-America wooden humidor. Meanwhile, Quality Importers offer Chinese-made humidors that are of very good quality for cheap prices.
Essentially, your particular needs determine the value you get from a certain humidor. If you need a humidor to elegantly display various cigars when you have company over, like Paul, the Boveda Large Acrylic excels.
The quantity you need to store is a major factor in determining what you need. If you only keep 10 cigars at a time, you would get the best value from a small humidor or a Boveda bag.
However, if, like Paul, you have a collection of 1200 cigars, there are specific options best suited to that amount. Cigar coolers/fridges or wineadors serve as temperature-controlled storage. Cabinets can also have great value for money.
Also, tupperdors and coolidors are low-cost, very sturdy and, if prepared correctly, totally airtight.
While there are some good large wooden humidors for the money, they're higher-maintenance than other solutions. Certain products make them easier to handle, however, like Boveda salt-based humidification and calibratable smart hygrometers.
Of course, if you personally like the look and feel of a wood humidor, they'll still bring you good value for money. In particular, the Quality Importers Old Glory & Old World are favorites of ours.

IF utilizing a wine cooler/fridge as humidor, what would be the ideal temperature for cigars? could you store fine cigars at some temp as red wine, say 57 F or so, provided ofcourse that the humidity is adequate thx

you don't want you use a wine fridge, you need one specifically for cigars, a regular wine fridge will create humidity.

I seen that many people season their new humidors with 80%-84% RH Boveda packs. My question is ... Do you just throw the Seasoning Boveda Packs in or do you wipe down the entire interior with distilled water and then add the Boveda packs ? Thank You !

Hi there, No need to wipe down! The best part of Boveda seasoning packs is that you just throw them in there and forget about them for 14 days. It's long but so easy and no mess! Best, CP

I bought the NewAir 300-H and Im having a problem with the temp, i have it set to 74 and when im waking up the temp on the outisde still reads 74 but my hygros are readying 64 and 76% humidity, its suppose to heat but i dont know what the issue is, currently waiting to get a return label and return it for a new one, but kinda eh about it since its over$500 and im already having issues , i only bought the thing for its heating and cooling

Hi Jeff, That's the problem with cigar fridges like these. When they work, they're brilliant. However, when they malfunction, they're a nightmare. Try replacing it and see how that goes. If you are still having issues, I'd ask for a refund and change it for something else. We avoided the 300-H when outlining the best cigar coolers as we heard of these sort of issues. The 100, however, works really well. Here's a link if you want to check out your options: bespokeunit.com/cigars/humidors/coolers/#best Best, CP

@@Bespokeunit Currently waiting for an email back, I had the 100h and its just to small, so when they came out with the 300H like a couple weeks ago I thought perfect, this isnt the cc300 that they originally had without heating, the first email i got back was saying that its a new product so that it will have faults....but they said theyd replace it so just waiting on that. what do you suggest in the mean time? The issue i have right now is that it gets really cold during the night and morning and even inside the cc300h set at 70-74 inside my tupper ware my hygro was reading 64 deg 76% humidity! I have 69% bovedas in it as well. I bought this to help with the cold during the winter, it doesnt get that cold usually in the 50-60, but its been 44 last couple days which is when ive been having my issues. I also bought it more for the summer to help keep them at 70.

Hi Jeff, Ahhh, so it's the new one! I'm afraid that I haven't had any experience with that. Personally, I wouldn't worry about the temperature slowly falling over night. Remember that many cigars are actually frozen by the manufacturers when distributed to different countries. The real issue would be high temperatures or sudden changes! For instance, I keep my coolidors in my cellar where the temperatures can get as low as 3°C. However, it usually comes back to a relatively consistent 10°C. I'm fine with this for long-term storage but I wouldn't just take one out and smoke it. Instead, I bring the cigars to smoke into a cool room of the house in a Boveda bag and let them spend a day to warm up so not to shock them. Only then do I transfer them to my everyday humidor so they can be ready to smoke. Therefore, if I were you, I'd keep a Boveda bag or tupperdor of what I planned to smoke in the next few days or weeks somewhere where it doesn't get cold. Meanwhile, the other cigars can remain where they are without much harm caused. Does that help with what you need? Best, CP

@@Bespokeunit im less worried about the temp dropping now, but the humidity spikes all the way to 76% or at least thats what my hygros said, is that something to worry about? with my experience so far with this its keeping the temp around 67-70 during the day but at night like is said my hygros drop all the way to 54 and 76% humidity with 69% bovedas in there, sorry if i just keep repeating the same thing over and over again. also, at the moment Im really not smoking ANY of the cigars in there just adding what ive been ordering, dont think ill be smoking any of them for about a few months.'
