Hey there, fellow travelers!
Ever been confused about which prepaid card to use on your overseas trips? In this video, I'm diving deep into 5 big players: Maybank MAE, Wise, TNG Visa, BigPay, and Enrich Money. I'll cover everything - from signing up to those sneaky hidden fees. You’ll know exactly which card to pack for your next journey!
Whether you're a local, have PR, or are here on a work visa, you can dive right in. Just be ready with a bit of cash for the annual fee and possibly an initial deposit. Though, heads up, some might charge for account inactivity.
Foreign transaction fees? Some are friendlier than others. Wise and EnrichMoney are particularly enticing if you’ve converted your money beforehand. TnG and BigPay have their own take, and it might fluctuate, so it's worth staying updated. And if you're the type who still likes some cold hard cash, most cards offer ATM withdrawals. But-and I'm sure you've guessed it-there might be fees involved. Some offer certain perks, while others are a bit more secretive about their charges.
Looking at transaction limits, Wise has a pretty hefty one, but there's a catch with how much you can have in the wallet at once. MAE and TnG play in their own ballpark, while BigPay and EnrichMoney have their own rules. Topping up is usually smooth, with bank transfers and debit cards being standard. And if you’re digital-first, almost all of them have a virtual card variant. Just a hint: one of these even lets you juggle multiple virtual cards for different needs.
So, who takes the crown? I've got my preferences, but I won’t give it all away. Some of these cards shine with conversion rates and limits, while others might win you over with their tech-savviness or security features. And if travel perks are your thing, a couple of them might just catch your eye.

    - Maybank: Widely accepted, good for local and international use, but watch out for foreign transaction fees (usually higher than fintechs). - Alliance Bank: Similar to Maybank, reliable with competitive fees. - Wise: Best for international transactions with low conversion fees and real exchange rates. - GXBank: Similar to bigpay and wise, but inferior to wise for foreign currencies purpose (in my opinion) - Touch 'n Go: Great for local use and everyday expenses, but not ideal for international transactions due to higher fees. Each has its own benefits depending on your usage!

I also think WISE is the best option here - I have a question - is it possible to LOAD the foreign currency account (i.e. EURO) inside WISE directly from a foreign currency account i.e. a EURO currency account in CIMB Malaysia (NOT transfer from RM fund in a local bank, converted in a foreign current inside WISE) ?

hi Ziet! thank you so much for your info. Seriously it's a lifesaver. I'm trying to transfer USD from my PayPal account to my Wise account. And I can't link the USD bank account because PayPal only allows us to link a bank account in Malaysian ringgit. So the other option I can think of is to link the Wise Visa Card instead. But question: if I transfer USD from PayPal to my Wise Visa card, will I receive the money in USD or in MYR?
