Food score for Vietnam should be around 7 or 7.5 as it didn"t hv enough international varieties. It is not easy to get Indian, Thai ,Korean Japanese or Chinese foods in Vietnam. In Malaysia, the Indian, Chinese & Thai foods are very common & cheap. Korean and Japanese foods are also easily available even in smaller towns in Malaysia.

You can get as fancy as you want. There are really fancy places, esp in Hanoi and HCMC, Nha Trang to some extent. I was last in Phu Quoc when they were 1st building things up. You can probably get fancy there as well. That said, beet to embrace the raw, the street food. Hanoi (bun cha boon chaah and bia hoi be-ah huoi, or so says my ex who is from Hanoi) Phuh... Banh mi My face city, by far, is Da Nang.

@Robsunrealtravels Great feel. I'm very much in touch w/ my Son's mom/ex wife, who's travelled all over SE Asia and Europe; grew up in Hanoi and there now. Her nest will be empty in August; she's selling her place and moving to... Da Nang. She can move to where she wants. The beach wasn't for me. We stayed in HAIAN overlooking the Dragon Bridge. Sooooo much food right there. My fiancee is THai so camped out in the Thai restaurant right there; Son and I found an old school VN place at the end of the block. Alas, this year won't be able to go back but SOOOO looking forward to it. Hoi An was underwhelming, IMHO. AWESOME restaurants, but got all the wrong street food. Went to Bourdain's fave banh mi. Next time, would go there for the day and into the evening and return to Da Nang. Marble Mountain, be ready for hard sell, but if you've been to other places in VN you know what it is.
