I’m gonna say this over and over until I die: Stafford was making insane passes like this before Mahomes did it, the difference being Mahomes was on a way better team and got more attention for it. Not disrespecting Mahomes, he’s amazing, but Stafford did it first

YUP....in fact they used to rip Stafford for his sidearm, underarm throws, then Mahomes comes along and everyone says "WOW look at the angles he can throw from".....I'm like, Stafford has been doing that for 10 years. Both were drafted to play in the MLB.

Mahomes even said he was a fan of Stafford long before he was in the nfl and modeled a lot of throws off what he saw Matthew doing. When Stafford did it, they used it in their narrative to keep Detroit down. They said his mechanics were bad. I can’t believe they allow gambling on such an obviously rigged sport.

I'm an old guy. How old am I? I listened on the radio to the Detroit Lions winning the NFL championship. I'm a Lions fan. I watched Matthew Stafford complete these kind of throws in last-minute comebacks over and over and over again during his career it Detroit. He's the best QB I've ever watched when it comes to completing passes at the second level over or between LB coverage. This was a great throw, but it's tied with another 100 or so similar throws Stafford completes effortlessly.
Bro Nick Wright was hating on Stafford in his show but if Mahommes did this same exact no look pass on a clutch game winning TD drive in the super bowl, Nick Wright and all these analysts would never stop talking about it but cuz its Stafford, they're just ignoring it

As a lions fan (Stafford fan) I knew when the rams were down it was over for Cincinnati. Not many times when down by one score does Matthew stafford allow his team to lose. I was a little worried because I know how clutch 9 is but some of the other players may not be able to step up with him. Alas, it didn’t matter. There was no way stafford wasn’t scoring on this drive. This is why he was brought to LA. great job by the rams front office doing their homework and watching film and putting together such a great team

What made that throw even more amazing is the fact that he had to fit that into such a small window before the safety came down. The ball literally got there a 1/2 a second before the safety. The fact that it was a no look just makes it the most amazing throw we've ever seen. Talk about memorable Super Bowl moments we will never forget that and that right there is going to put Stafford in the hall of fame although I felt he had the numbers to be in the hall of fame already.
I live in Detroit Matt Stafford has been doing these types of plays for years but he just did not get the credit that he deserves the NFL be hyping up Pat Maholmes talking about how he can throw the football at different arm angles but Matt Stafford was already doing those type of throws salute to Matt Stafford

truth. we're so used to it we don't even talk about it anymore. the sidearm throws, no look passes, and of course, the cannon arm. best QB Lions have ever had.
Stafford is a great quarterback and individual. He always had these skills. I’m a Detroit Fan, born and raised, and live in LA now. I’m so happy for Stafford when he was traded to LA.
Damn, I was at the game and just thought what a great play but on this replay, what a spectacular play!!! Wow, I am in awe.......
I really appreciate you calling this out! I heard Kupp mention a no look pass Stafford made in a post game interview, but I hadn't seen it like this. Man, what a perfect throw. You earned a sub!
That's GOAT ish right there, and we've been seeing that his whole career. Glad my guy finally did it on the big stage so the world can see what we've been experiencing forever. That's my No.9
LOL I didn't notice until you did this comparison. This is pretty much like a sick no look pass you would see in the NBA. But Stafford did the super veteran ass move of controlling the safety with his eyes. All while hitting Cupp with a high pass on a tight window that is high but on time. I've marveled at crazy connection Burrow and Chase have exhibited this season but Stafford and Kupp doing it big when the chips are down is even more impressive.
That is nuts. I saw your other breakdown of this already, but that ground level cutaway you inserted really tells the story. I thought by no look, you meant look off - but nope, the guy really did throw a dead-rights real-deal no-look pass. Crazy nuts cool. Good video, man.
Wow ! 🤩 Man is now the legend he deserves. Thanks for highlighting the play. I hope the analysis of this drive can take off 🚀
this is actually common for stafford. as a Lions fan, I was lucky enough to witness him do it at least half a dozen times over the course of his career in Honolulu Blue. when everyone went crazy over Mahomes, I couldn't help but smirk at the fact that Stafford has been doing the same thing for like a decade. so glad he got his ring. i'll always root for that guy. he was the best Lions QB ever and it's not even close. also, friends of mine have met him out in public and said he's the most humble, down to earth guy you can find.
I love people finally realizing Stafford's talents. JKS has been a long time Stafford truther. Awesome stuff
People really didn't appreciate the Rams during the regular season, saying we got lucky breaks, that Stafford is just an older Goff. But no, he is the real deal, and a very humble man to boot. Not sure how such a humble guy is such an aggressively confident quarterback, but he has faith in himself and his teammates. People talk about the "chemistry" between Stafford and Kupp, but what you see on the field is the results of hours and hours of work and practice.
I always liked that he was a pretty accurate side arm slanger. He deserves it. Congrats Rams.

just a smart decision. he understood the situation: defender will guard the first down marker since he has help over the top and inside. but to get him to bite, he looks him off and throws behind him. those two receivers were covered. stafford "looked" Kupp open and threw a dime. he engineered that play.

I'm just so glad Stafford is finally getting his due praise! And what better stage to show off the no-look passes he's been doing his entire career than in the Super Bowl? Some critics act like Stafford all of a sudden became a good Qb with the Rams and it's only because of the overcast of playing for the Lions the past 12 seasons. Same franchise that wasted the careers of 2 HoFers, Sanders and Johnson. The sad concept is that a Qb is only as good as the success of the team.... Well, I present to you all Jimmy G as the anomaly of that argument since the 49ers are a good team *_in spite of Jimmy G._* The same can be said of Stafford in the reverse: the Lions are a horrid franchise *_in spite of Stafford._* It's about time the doubters see it.

@tunahelpa5433
2 жыл бұрын
What was special about Flutie's pass was that his team got the ball back with just 26 seconds on the clock, ran a couple of plays, then had one last chance to win with a buzzer beater. What made Stafford's throw incredible was that he had the guts to do that in the Superbowl, with literally the game on the line. Like you said, he could have taken the easy short pass, but instead he threw it at 3 defenders without looking because he had that much confidence in Kupp to get over there and take it. Both were plays of a lifetime.
@tunahelpa5433

Even with the no-look, the ball sailed just inches beyond the reach of the safety.
It's not hype one of the greatest throws slash plays of all time.
Stafford has balls of solid rock to throw a no look pass this far down the field with the game on the line. Yes, he throws too many INTs. That's a gunslinger. Take the good with the bad. But man...he KNEW he had to get the ball to Kupp. He KNEW Kupp would be double covered. He KNEW he had to look that safety off to get Kupp open. Unbelievable
Good QB’s have good peripheral
Matthew deserves his flowers after this iconic 1st season
Stafford has some balls!!!
Magic Johnson said the secret to his passing was conditioning his peripheral vision to function as well as his primary. Stafford was looking at the tight end when releasing the throw to Kupp. Fooled everybody in the stadium.
