Best Team for Red & Blue: Charizard Edition
Ойындар
Yeah...we still have quite a few alternate starters to take care of. I swear, this series will never end. Anyways, today we've got the Best Team for Red and Blue: Charizard Edition. Red and Blue are some of the most frustrating games to make Best Teams for many reasons, most notably the horrible movepools for a lot of Pokemon. Nonetheless, I powered through it and believe I came up with a really solid team!

Mystic here's a thought, what if you made one team for each region, with NO restrictions, and went all out? Meaning trade evo's were allowed and any moves you could get even if trading was involved for "post game" was allowed too. Or is that too challenging? because there are people like me who have multiple DS units for a reason, sides you took quite an interest in Jaiden's platinum run using a Scizor, and while I know she didn't actually trade it (she was running a rom, and used some alternate method the rom provided to get it) it still counts as something that your teams don't usually allow. but i wouldn't expect multiple teams, only one per region, the best of the best, so whoever the best starter is, is the only one getting a team.

Great idea
I’m definitely Down to hear about the TMs from Gym Leaders, you could probably rank them from Worst to best By Type or By Generation collectively!
Great vid as always! Something I learned recently is the “badge boost glitch” this is a bug present in the first three gens (as far as I am aware it’s just 1-3 Could be wrong :o) but whenever a move changes one of your stat values for instance if you get hit by a growl, or if you use a move like Agility the game will naturally boost all of your other stats by 12.5% and this stacks every time you boost your stats also so you can do this 3 times with agility on your raichu there. This resets though once the Pokémon levels up sadly :p
I never understood how dugtrio has such high speed. It's literally three heads stuck in the ground.
For people who want to be quick… Charizard: Ember (level 9) replace with Flamethrower (level 46), Slash (level 36), Seismic Toss (TM19), Dig (TM28) replace with Earthquake (TM26) Dodrio: Fly (HM02), Tri Attack (TM49), Drill Peck (level 30), Double Team (TM32) Dugtrio: Dig (level 19) replace with Earthquake (level 47), Slash (level 35), Rock Slide (TM48), Toxic (TM06) Raichu: Agility (level 33 only as Pikachu), Thunderbolt (TM24), Body Slam (TM08), Pay Day (TM16) Hitmonlee: High Jump Kick (level 48), Rolling Kick (level 33), Strength (HM04), Meditate (level 1) Slowbro: Psychic (TM29), Surf (HM03), Ice Beam (TM13), Amnesia (level 40 only as Slowpoke) Use Butterfree for Brock
I'd use Primape, it gets Submission for STAB sure but it has a far soupirior stat spread being fast bt not paper thin like Hitmonlee Submission Dig Hyper Beam IDK, Mimic,or Substitute?

So happy to see my boy Slobro finally getting some love!

Plus, Mankey is Red exclusive.
Hi Mystic I have a video idea for you. You have made a lot of best teams which really helped me, but what do you think of doing kinda the opposite? Decide which pokemon is good against each gym. And it doesn't have to be only type match ups, but you could also talk about which pokemon you can obtain before each gym, moves available to you, the stats of the gym leaders pokemon or a particular skill of a pokemon like stalling. So what do you think?
Can we all agree how surprising it is to not see NidoKing on this team?

Nidoking prior to gen4 is bad no eartht ot poison type move lerned by level up except for poison sting in HG/SS it is actually worth using because it learns poison jab and earth power by level up and you can swap it for eartquake "post game" but in earlier gens it's not worth using because in gen1 you can give earthquake to snorlax in gen2 to typhlosion in FR/LG same as in gen1 in hoenn if I'm right it isn't even accesible
I'd rather just overlevel charmander than time out to level a metapod with switch battles. Bodyslam is better than Triattack (stronger with more PP) and can actually paralyse while triattack cannot in gen 1. TM08 can be used the second you get Doduo rather than waiting till level 40 for the weaker Triattack.
Glad to see my boi Raichu getting some love 👏

hey people who disliked this, i hope you know that it is evil if you use this team in the future.
Not bad. I always make a team up that can carry all the hm moves. So my water type would have surf rather than hydro pump. I would have a cutter (bedrill or sandshrew ) with swords dance to make cut a more powerful move. A bird pokemon for fly. The most annoying hm move is flash but you need it in caves . This can be taught to either electric or psychic pokemon. And thunder wave combined with flash is a good combination especially when weakening the 3 legendary birds to capture them. Strength can be taught to a variety of pokemon but i normally choose snorlax.
Did you say about the badge boost glitch giving a 12.5% stat boost to any stat with any boost move so agility gives speed and all stat buff, if you have the right badge.
@TheGameMaster2904
3 жыл бұрын
Wait...thats a thing in gen 1??
I wonder how different would your best teams for FireRed and LeafGreen be if it let you use Crobat, Bellossom, Politoed, Slowking, Steelix, Blissey, Kingdra, Scizor, Espeon, Umbreon, Porygon2, and the Baby Pokemon.
@IM_7031
3 жыл бұрын
I would hunt Chansey for hours in the Safari Zone to get Blisssy
I played through Red Version with a Blastoise, Beedrill, Wigglytuff, Exeggutor, Rhydon, and Moltres. My Beedrill did have some trouble, being so frail, but I had it with Swords Dance and it managed to beat through some stuff without much problem. Edit: Originally I was going to have a Golem, but I couldn't find someone to trade with so I opted to swap for Rhydon. Rest well, poor Gutterball the Graveler.
I would personally put a Gengar/Haunter on the team. For those who can't evolve it Haunter is still great. There are a lot of normal moves in the game and the AI isn't that good so Haunter can often take no damage from moves. Also due to "Smart AI" most of Lance's Pokémon won't even touch Haunter. As for Haunter itself it can learn a great variety of TMs. I'd recommend thunderbolt, psychic and mega drain but they're are other options too. I would definitely keep hypnosis on it though so sleep is very overpowered and Haunter will outspeed most Pokemon. I'd say the only downsides are not having STAB moves and needing TMs but if you give it those TMs it's an absolute monster. Even better than Alakazam in my opinion and Alakazam is considered the best pokemon for an in game playthrough.
I swept through Brock by having my Pidgey use sand attack on Geodude and Onix continuously to the point where Charmander beat both rock types by spamming Ember since all of Geodude and Onix's attacks missed.

This is almost my very 1st Pokemon Red team and I didn't know what I was doing back then. My team was Charizard, Pidgeot, Butterfree, Raichu, Dugtrio and Gyarados.
What do you think of the team I beat Pokemon Red with? -Charizard: Flamethrower, Earthquake, Slash, Seismic Toss -Butterfree: Psybeam, Swift, Mega Drain, Sleep Powder -Raichu: Thunderbolt, Quick Attack, Double Team, Thunder Wave -Gyarados: Surf, Strength, Ice Beam, Hydro Pump -Dugtrio: Rock Slide, Earthquake, Slash, Sand Attack -Articuno: Blizzard, Ice Beam, Fly, Sky Attack
For a Blastoise team I recommend Jynx. 95 special/speed is very strong on a pokemon that can STAB Icebeam and Psychic and will always have a 50% EXP boost from the ingame trade. Can pretty much destroy the Elite four Lance/Agatha/Bruno's team by itself. Rival (picking squirtle) has Pidgeot, Rhydon and Venasaur which also fall to the STAB ice attacks while Arcanine is still a neutural hit because Fire doesn't resist Ice in Gen 1. Lorelei is really the only fight where Jynx has nothing to really use otherwise it basically sweeps the endgame by itself.
@MysticUmbreon Will you re-start the "How good was" Series this Year?
Finally one for red and blue, not fire red and leaf green
For Blastoise I would recomend Jinx. Have Ice beam on Blastoise and Blizzard on Jinx (nice coverage with Ice Psychic types)

Also use amnesia, one use is the same as basically 2 calm minds, plus a boost to all your stats because of the badge boost glitch
It's a shame how much FR/LG nerfed the power of Dugtrio at destroying Agatha because her ghosts all gained Levitate.
You should do this but trade evolutions are aloud
Brilliant team
Doesn't Nidoking have better stat than Dugtrio? It's just that it can't learn dig. But I still use Nidoking. (I just don't battle Leut. Surge's gym because I don't need fly going back and forth from Celadon, Saffron, and Lavender Town anyway so I can get Earthquake and battle Surge then.)
On the Virtual Console I chose charmander. In the gym battle with Brock and his Onix I just kept spamming sand-attack with the pidgey I had then chipped some damage with gust until it fainted and then switched to charmander and spammed ember. Got him to lvl14 after that battle 👌
I also had a nidaroqueen sp attack ice beam, and nidoking earthquake. Starter was blastois, and pidieoto, dragonite and golem
Can you do one for the last fire red?
Well, in gen one, charizard spe atk is close to phys atk, with 84 atk and 85 spe atk in gen one.
Amnesia is busted in Gen 1. Played Yellow recently and after my Pikachu beat his Pidgeot he sent in Rhydon. Slowbro beat it, he sent in Exeggutor but cause it doesn't have any damaging Grass moves I set up Amnesia and swept the rest of his team. Did the same thing to Bruno and Agatha lol

BTW in Mt. Moon on the left side of the entrance there is an TM for Water Gun. Rattata, Jigglypuff, Clefairy, Nidorino and Nidorina can learn it.

Rattata can learn water gun?!!! What the heck
Dodrio uses its other 2 heads to fly
For brock I just used ember. Onix and geodude had bad special so it normally 3 hit and I could switch into pikachu when he used bide to stall him out
I don't think I've EVER used cut at that spot
Also Brock doesn’t have rock type moves and his Pokémon have low special, so just raise charmander to level 9 and you can breeze through Brock much more easily than training a caterpie just for that one fight. Just spam growl a bunch then ember away
Appalled at the lack of Starmie. Its elemental coverage plus psychic destroyed Gen 1.
If you want to defeat Brook with Charmander just get it to lvl 13-14 and buy 3 potions. Brook is easy, just use ember until geos use dies, if necessary heal on Onix first turn and just keep using ember unless Onix uses bide, if it uses bide the just growl until it fails and the continue with ember. (2 potions are usually enough, but you can go with 3 just in case, sometimes you don’t even need 1, gen 1 AI is dumb)
Hitmonlee is definitely a God, I've always picked it over the others
Raichu can learn Submission. The Playtrough-Moveset for Raichu is Thunderbolt, Thunder Wave, Flash, Submission.

Ok, let's review: - Dig and Earthquake are basically the same in this generation, but Dig is a 2-turns moves. - I really like the idea using Pay Day on Raichu moveset! - The Jump Kick recoil is bugged on Gen 1, so use it like no tomorrow lol - Slowbro isn't that good in-game, I try it. Starmie will do a better job. - A great mistake: RED AND BLUE DOESN'T HAVE MANKEY BEFORE BROCK!! If you choose Charmander, a good strategy is Growl + Ember + switching Pokémon if receiving Screech. Geodude and Onix have very bad Special status.

Agility can also help you by abusing the badge boost glich

I'm a bulbasaur fanboy all the way but even I know that Gen 1 Brock is fine with charmander because none of his pokemon have any rock moves and his team have such low special anyway that ember will still do enough damage to beat them easily enough

@@west7965 That's funny, I don't feel embarrassed. Maybe I just don't care.
Dude, charizard has 85 special in gen 1. It didn't get 109 special attack until gen 2. It even says in its statline that its special in gen 1 was 85
While he's not the most powerful fire starter and it's really tiring that Gamefreak puts him on a high pedestal, I still like Charizard. While his base form certainly hasn't been given any kindness for these last couple of years, I felt he was still a reliable Fire type on my team, thanks to its diverse move pool. Of course, who cannot forget the tremendous power that both Charizard X and Y. Is Charizard one of the best fire types? No! But is it the worst? No! Charizard's placement in my opinion would probably be the middle, right below Delphox, but higher above Emboar and Typhlosion.
Anything with a base speed of 64 or higher gets an effective 99.6% chance to crit with increased critical hit ratio moves in gen I. The .4% being the 1/256 inherent miss chance to all moves that aren't 'never miss' like Swift. Even 100% accuracy moves have this check. Even Charmander has base 65 speed. Now make Karate Chop a Fighting Move in Gen 1 and watch Primeape go ape in the meta and Machamp get a buff too.
Why not nidoking with horn drill
another way to beat brock with Charmander is using growl/leer/scratch combo as charmander. Just make sure your lizard is level 15 first. I works with pikachu in yellow, so it can work with charmander in rgb
