Excellent video, as always! I love the way you’ve used split screen in parts, but not overdone it - very professional! Great quality videography and a good detailed look at both watches. I do agree with you from looking at your video that the two watches are very similar in every way, but also that the Mido does look a little sharper and more refined! I also love the dial pattern on the Mido and without doubt it would be my choice to purchase! 🎥⌚️⌚️👌👏

Never got the chance to see the Seastar for myself but I did got the Mido for almost a year now, and I love it. The finish, the movement, the feel and especially the bracelet are so good, that sometimes people mistake it for a 5K watch or more. Super recommended.

For me, it depends on the models in question because: 1) I like the Mido Ocean Star 200 more than the Tissot Seastar 1000 2) I like the Tissot Seastar 2000 more than the Mido Ocean Star 600 The choice between MOS600 and TS2000 is probably all about taste. Specs-wise, it's really a push. Mido fans would point out that the MOS600 is COSC-certified while the TS2000 is not while Tissot fans would point out that the TS2000 is ISO 6425-certified while the MOS600 is not. They both use essentially the same movement under different names (Calibre 80 for Mido and Powermatic 80 for Tissot) with the same 3Hz beat. The Mido has 25 jewels while the Tissot has 23 jewels. The two extra jewels on the MOS600 are located on the fork which probably has something to do with its COSC certification. I personally chose the TS2000. My reasons for this were the dial (there's no comparison) and the price. I honestly don't understand how the MOS600 can list for CA$2,150 while the TS2000 lists for only CA$1,375. These two watches are essentially tied when it comes to spec. The Mido has COSC while the Tissot has ISO 6425. Having said that, I'm sure that the MOS600 would be able to handle any kind of diving while my TS2000's accuracy has been +/- 3 seconds per day which exceeds COSC specifications. When the TS2000 came out, it made many Swiss dive watches seem overpriced in comparison (Captain Cook, HydroConquest, Ocean Star, Khaki Diver, AquaRacer, Superocean, Aquis, etc.) because it, like the MOS600, has specs that rival those of the Planet Ocean 600m. Mido isn't exactly in any trouble here because it is by far the most popular brand of Swiss watch in Central and South America where Tissot doesn't really have much of a presence. Swatch was smart enough to leave Mido alone with regard to the region of the world it dominates.

I have both. There's different things to like. I don't like Mido's double AR. Crown is so much easier to use in the Tissot. 120 click bezel on the Tissot is also a little cooler. But the finishing and clasp of the Mido are so nice. I wouldn't say one's superior to the other. That's why I ended up with both lol.

Tissot Seastar now comes also with C07.811 movement that has regular escapement and silicon balance spring - on the dial it says "silicium". I don't know how it was like at the time of making this video but now I think that the biggest downside is removed and now it is much more a matter of taste.

Both of these watches are very attractive. I have the Seastar as well as the Mido GMT which runs about $1500 Cnd. and enjoy them both. Unfortunately, both watches are currently with Swatch in Toronto for repairs. After 6 months of very light use, the powermatic 80 movement on both watches broke. They became impossible to wind. Swatch has had them for 3 months months and despite 2 e mails requesting an update on the status of repairs, I've received no communication from Swatch. Any one considering the purchase of any Swatch watch with the Powermatic 80 should keep in mind that this movement is, based on my experience, not dependable and the warranty service is sub-par.

I took delivery of a Le Jour Coral Diver in blue this week that I ordered from Long Island Watch. This watch is amazing and blows the Swatch comparables out of the water in terms of finishing and attention to detail. Le Jour is a small French company that has been making Swiss watches, mostly divers, since the 1960's. They use the Sellita SW 200 automatic movement which is a real workhorse.

The Mido is however the most refined being say at 8/10 where I would place the Tissot at a 7/10 and actually the Hamilton I would give a 9/10 for comfort and refinement, but it's bezel is the hardest to use out of all of them, if they would have just made the bezel easier to grab and made it a 30bar of WR it would easily be th winner, anyways, just my opinion, take it easy.

Mido is so close to perfect for me. But I just have an “off feeling” about the lume on Swatch group watches. When I got my Certina diver, I was so profoundly disappointed over the lume, which was several leagues below my previous Citizen Promaster diver that cost half. Not to mention my $90 Seiko 5 outshines it by a large margin as well. And I thought: They have to be keeping their lower tier brands worse on the lume front on purpose to make Omega look better in comparison right?

I have the Tissot and use it as everyday watch. And with this summer heat man it's kinda janky. The weight is the same as Mido but as a person who likes to wear this type of watch nonstop I would say the bigger case is better because of weight distribution. I prefer Tissot look but I didn't see the Mido firsthand because it has no distribution in my country. But as a guess I would say the Mido titanium version is better for me. A little bit more for minus 1/3 of the weight and better material.

Note that Tissot Sea Star 2000 has the C07.111 ETA movement which means that's the one with Synthetic Plastic parts. really disappointing that Tissot used this cheapest variant of the Powermatic 80 on their most expensive and first official Diver's watch. The Ocean Star 600 in turn has the ETA C07.821 which is also COSC. the Seastar 2000 is really amazing looking watch and very substantial and luxurious compared to Seiko divers at this price range. however, true that it is around 700-800$ cheaper than the Ocean Star 600. the Movement itself and the overall Mido higher grade of bezel and finish is well worth investing only in the MIDO. (if price is a concern of course) please don't get me wrong i love the Tissot brand and the fact they offer entry level to Swiss Luxury horology, however due to their hierarchy in the Swatch group it makes sense that their offering in the Automatic section would be very limited in the Diver's section and for cost cutting reasons, the cheapest automatic movement versions are used. (I have two Tissot Quartz watches which are over a decade old, the finish is by far more impressive than in my Seiko divers and retro pieces which from looking at the price level, if Tissot would be offering watches in those niches. however then Powermatic 80 (and ETA equivalents) power reserve and price point are in my opinion game changers. however if i had to chose between a Swatch group P80 or a Seiko Diver's with 6s35 at that exact price point. (MIDO OS 600 is by far above of this level) i would probably consider one of the more higher end Certina Diver's over the Seastar. (however again, most of these Certinas also have the C07.111 movement. (for similar reasons, price point, hierarchy in the swatch group)

I disagree that Seiko Prospex are no longer a value diver, but it depends on the model. The Prospex series is a huge collection, raging from about 400 to 6000 USD. Surely you would agree that a nice mini tuna or even turtle/samurai (or king versions with sapphire and ceramic bezels) at around 5-600 USD ARE extremely well priced vs the competition. As per prices raging around 1500 USD, I'd still argue that Seiko is the best watch, and that's because of a recent purchase. Disclosure: I own a GS Diver (SLGA001), a vintage Rolex DateJust and a prospex Samurai (plus some gshocks). I actually wanted to get a Longines diver (1500 usd hydroconquest green dial) just to diversify my collection and have a daily diver that looks nicer than the Samurai. I went to my local dealer (which carries a ton of brands, including everything seiko including GS, and, of course Longines), and after 30 mins, I ended up buying the Seiko Prospex IslandGreen SPB207. Why? Because everything about the watch felt more premium than the Longines. The case and bracelet finishing is much better with nicer facets and contours, and the bracelet also felt better build - but especially the dial (the green sunburst dial and the dual faceted hands on the Prospex is much nicer than the plain jane Longines) and the bezel feel (smooth vs notchy on the Longines).

I was never really all that impressed with the Seastar 1000 or the Mido Ocean Star. They're both very run-of-the-mill when it comes to diving watches with their 300m ratings. The Ocean Star at least has that attractive upside-down hockey stick wave-pattern dial but other than that, nothing about it stands out against the competition. In the Seastar 1000's case, even more so. However, the Seastar 2000 is a market disruptor with specs that rival that of the Planet Ocean for just over $1,000. It blows away not only these two watches but also the Aquis, Aquaracer, Superocean, HydroConquest, Submariner, Seamaster and LegendDiver. Moreover. the TS2000's dial is absolutely superb with its gradient colour and a chaotic wave design that cannot even be called a pattern. It shows the true chaos of the ocean itself. Tissot made good with the TS2000. If your wallet can handle the $1,025USD price and your wrist can handle a 46mm dial, there isn't another diver on Earth that would be a better buy.

From the two, I would choose Seiko SPB207J1. Sorry, I'm a freediver and Seiko belongs under water. The Tissot and Mido divers are for "office divers". This is how I feel about it. Thanks for the comparison video anyway. :)))

I owned the SPB147 and love it so I can understand why one would choose a seiko over these two. It’s getting tougher though as Seikos prices keep going up!

Mido is in the upper price segment so it’s always nicer than Tissot and a little bit more expensive but largely justified by the execution and attention to detail

Where your analysis falls flat is that you can get just as big a discount on the Tissot. By not mentioning that, you've tilted the ice in favour of the Mido in an attempt to justify your choice. The Mido will ALWAYS befar more expensive than the Tissot which is why it's more refined. The thing is that the Tissot is still more than refined enough for 99% of people and it is the better value. There's a reason that Tissot is far and away Swatch's best-selling brand. Is the Mido better? Of course it is and it better be for an extra $300CAD. By comparing these two watches with their price difference, you've opened up a can of worms because it means that it would be equally relevant to compare the Mido to the upmarket Tissot Seastar 2000, a watch that absolutely BURIES it for about the same price difference that exists between the Ocean Star 200 and Seastar 1000. This I know as fact because I personally chose the Seastar 2000 over the upscale Mido Ocean Star 600, a watch that makes the Ocean Star 200 look like an Invicta Pro Diver. Try that comparison and then you'll realise just how flawed your logic is.

Ive just NEVER liked the Tissot “T” on that second hand. I understand why they use it…I just don’t like it. Tissot does have tons of 300M watches. The winner between these two is the Mido. Nice video.

Tbh, when comparing to Seiko, the Mido, as far as finishing and specs, is very close to the Samurai King. I'd argue that the mido is better as far as clasp (the Samurai clasp is pretty bad), however if you get the Samurai King Padi with the globe 3d dial and turqouise accents on dial and bezel, it's even closer, and when you consider that they both have similar levels of finish, a cermaic bezel and a sapphire crystal (the Seiko also has a magnifier), sure, overall one MIGHT argue that the Mido is a bit better refined, maybe, but the Mido costs 1000-1200 USD while the King Samurai is less than 700.

I’m not sure one could argue for preference in design as it’s all opinion based. Seeing them in person for yourself is the best way to make that final decision in my opinion- and having seen both I am just not crazy about the purple tint in the gray dial of the Tissot. Just my two cents but everything else about the watch is great.

Disagree. The Tissot looks cheap with that sunburst dial...reminds me of an Aliexpress special..beautiful isn't the word that comes to mind. The Mido looks better but not by much...would be the winner if it did not have the silly wave dial and day date window

I don’t mind when diver’s watches are a little larger! But I also love my smaller watches- I’ve owned a BB58 and the size and comfort was the best part but I’ve even owned a Doxa Sub 300T and a Seiko King Turtle that I don’t mind them being larger as purpose driven watches. Just my two cents!

The escapement parts are metal aside from the hairspring if it is the Silicium movement.(Yes I have personally serviced these movements) It is not a Sistem 51. The Escapement and free sprung balance design is derived from the Swatch movement but the Swatch movement is not even close in quality. It is just as serviceable as an ETA 2824, regulating is just slightly trickier (It has two regulating pins on the balance itself)
