Get more details about Belkin, Tripp Lite and Accell surge protectors from the written review: wp.me/p7vSP4-Iy
Surge protectors are designed to take the damage from unexpected spikes in electricity. So when lightning strikes a utility pole near your house, the surge protector takes the brunt of all that extra electricity instead of your TV, computers, gaming setup or whatever else you have plugged into an outlet.
The best surge protectors that I’ve been using for the last few years are
the Belkin 12 outlet PivotPlug, the Accell Powramid, and Tripp Lite TLP128TTUSBB.
What's the difference between a surge protector and power strip?
Power strips look very similar to surge protectors -- and some DO have basic surge protection -- but you need to be careful because power strips can sometimes be erroneously labeled as surge protectors.
So when you’re buying a surge protector, you definitely want to pay attention to the Joules rating. This is a measurement that indicates how much electricity a surge protector can absorb in a single event without failure. You want a rating of at least 1,000 joules.
Here is a chapter-by-chapter breakdown so you can choose the best option for protecting a valuable PC, television and other valuable electronics around your home.
0:00 Intro
0:58 Why I needed a surge protector
1:15 Belkin 12-outlet PivotPlug
2:29 Surge Protectors vs Power Strips
3:27 Tripp Lite TLP128TTUSBB
4:23 Accell Powramid
5:58 Buying Advice
Here’s some liner notes on what to look for when you buying a surge protector:
When you start shopping for surge protectors, you may notice that some advertise “lifetime insurance” of $150,000 to $300,000.
I generally ignore this when I’m buying a surge protector because I’m just generally skeptical about what kind of hoops you would have to jump through in order to make a claim and collect a large sum of money from one of these companies.
That ties in with my second point: Surge protectors do cost a little more than power strips. But you should only buy what you realistically need. Don’t go overboard.
Buying a ninety dollar surge protector might make sense if you’re running an elaborate gaming PC that costs five grand. But it doesn’t make sense for an average home office. A $30 to $40 surge protector with a decent Joules rating will work out fine.

I've got 3 Belkin surge protectors that I've had for years, haven't had any issues even with storms cutting power/lightning in the area. Going to be purchasing 3 new ones just to be safe soon, likely the 12 outlet 3780 Joules protected ones. The devices protected by these are 2 $1k smart TVs, as well as a $1500 Gaming PC - it's definitely worth a $30-90 purchase to protect these very expensive electronics.

I remember back in 2018 there was thunderstorm where I was living. I had a at the time a $600 maybe $700 dollar Nvidia graphics card. The thunder storm happened unexpectedly while I was out buying groceries. I did not have a surge protector. That was a very dark and sad day for me when I got home lol. Looking back on it now is funny. But at the time my heart and wallet was hurting!

It's interesting you say you're skeptical about the $150k warranty thing. I saw a review or two for tripp lite's stuff and someone had sent in their protector that caught on fire and failed after a surge. tripp lite told them their testing said there was no evidence a surge happened despite the guy sending them something from their power company confirming their was a surge at the exact time that happened.

Also check the "clamping voltage". And, lightning is more than these can handle. These are for when your fridge or other heavy-draw appliance turns on and off - creating a current spike. Not for lightning...

Had that belkin pivot SP. It fried and didn't do much to protect my electronics. Belkin has a terrible customer service dept. and rejected my claim. Also had a $30 10-plug surge strip I bought at Lowe's, it's fine and so are all of my electronics plugged into it. Just make sure your receptacles are all properly grounded or install a GFCI receptacle at the start of your circuit if you can trace the circuit.

You really don't want over a 8 plug protector anymore than that you take a chance of overload because most are only 15 amps and even at that its to much anymore than 10 amps is not safe the best is you keep it more fire safe.
