This video made me cry. Im a 63 year old woman and have always wanted to watercolor. Why why why didn't i just try it 40 years ago. Well now im 63 and diagnosed with bone cancer. I finally decided to just do it and i love love love it so much. Makes me sad to think what i missed out on. I think wow can u imagine what i would be able to paint if i had just started 40 years ago. Anyway its so true what your encouraging others to do. I hope with all my heart that people are listening and they are inspired to just do it and keep at it, dont give up because with practice you do get better and it is so much fun.

That Baohong Academy paper is a godsend. People like to throw out the words "student grade" like it's some sort of curse and you'll never have any success using products labeled as such, but I strongly beg to differ. I paint a lot of landscapes with big juicy wet background washes, and that paper just keeps taking all the water I throw at it. I can scrub out and lift pigment without it pilling up, and it has just the right amount of texture to create really interesting foliage effects, but not so much that I can't go in and add some fine detailing when needed. And being able to get a block of 20 sheets for half the price of a block of 12 to 15 sheets? Uh, yes please.

I love it!!!! I agree with you. I have an order for their professional grade, and it’s also more affordable in the US. I look forward to testing it out. Later: Academy is my new go to for watercolor paper. I can no longer find Arches for half price, and I don’t feel like I am losing anything using Academy. I bought a small pro block. Honestly, I am just as giddy with Academy. 😋 Thank you Kristy! You’re the best!!!!

I needed a soft sable-like brush to paint “dreamy “ style roses . Didn’t have, wasn’t going to buy one, so I looked around the house and found an old Mary Kay eye shadow brush. I painted a bouquet of three “dreamy” style roses that I think is my best floral painting to date. So you’re right ,Kristie, when you say use what you have. Perhaps it is that “uncomfortable “ moment in painting when we go beyond our own expectations. Happy New Year .

So a few more points to go along with this really important vid: 1. Yes I was likely just eating a Christmas cookie just before filming this so no I don’t have some weird disease on my lip lol. 2. The reindeer in the background of my desk absolutely frightens my daughter and him being right there and nowhere else makes her feel safe. #toddlerlife 3. The tricky dagger brushes I touched on in the vid are those that either aren’t 100% synthetic and/or have a bristle length longer that about ¾ inches. The specific design of my brushes makes you feel very much in control of your strokes, even as a beginner 4. My palette recommendation is also for another BIG reason…IF you aren’t ready to dive into complicated color theory or mixing at the beginning of your watercolor journey (which I really recommend you don’t), my palette offers the most fun and inspiring color collection that won’t leave you wanting if you don’t mix!

I just watched your previous beginner supplies video from a few years ago and I had to laugh because of course one of the papers I first grabbed was the XL and as I’m painting I’m thinking “what am I doing…this is so inconsistent” and then you said “this paper can be inconsistent” and I was rejoicing! 😂 only 3 weeks into playing and I’m looking forward to growing. I mostly started for a different creative outlet and some anxiety reduction-but I can tell I’m going to really want to dig in and learn! Your brush set looks amazing, I have it added to my wishlist after watching your paint drills video! ❤

I discovered Baohong last year and agree with everything you say about it. And I just ordered your palette about an hour ago despite my saying to myself that I would not order any more paints in 2023. But I am old, just started watercolors last Feb., so why not. I have no desire to find a style, frame my art or even show it to anyone. To be honest I just enjoy playing in the paints, like a child. 😬😬😬

I’m in my late 50’s and my hands have been giving me trouble doing my sculpture, I want to keep creating and came upon your videos and have binge watched them. Last night I dug out my old watercolor pallet from almost 40 years ago, dried out crusty old pallet, cleaned it up a bit and actually just reactivated the puddles in the mixing area from the last painting I did as a student and it’s wonderful lol! I think I’m going to have some fun with this and give my hands a break so thank 😊 it’s a wonderful time to be alive with the internet being a better teacher than I ever had in art school.

I don't know why, but I absolutely felt pain in my heart when you said, "bring out the phone book or a paper bag to paint on." I know that your whole entire intent and being is to paint with joy But, I think because when I was little (8-10 years old), and my parents were both at work, and my brother was at a friend's house, and I was home all by myself... Obviously I couldn't go shopping... So, I would find things around the house to create art with. So, those things that you mentioned... were my go to, back in the day. It so sad to think that there are people that seriously can't afford to buy the "proper" tools, so they make do with what they got. I think I even used a cloth just to rub paint on a project once. Obviously after my kindergarten fiasco with watercolor, I never tried this with watercolor... However, you know what? I even painted with food coloring once, because I didn't own paints and I wanted to attain a painted look on something. I just don't remember what exactly it was. I think I created sculptures out of Flour, water and salt, because I didn't have clay. Once I learned how to paper mache in school (10 years old), I did the same concept with water, flour and the white pages. I recall making paste once out of rice, because I needed to complete a school project, and I didn't have a glue stick or glue at home. That was another time my parents weren't home. Wasn't Gen-X a great generation!?!? LOL!!! I think we are stronger people with grit, because we had the hard knocks in life and just learned how to make do with what we had!!!

I started watercolor painting with a sample brush from a Mary Kay party and a tin of partially used watercolor from my great uncle’s estate sale. I painted Aline in my room for a couple of years because I didn’t want my brother to tease me. It’s crazy to think back on it, but they are wonderful memories.

I’ve started on sunflowers too. Happy New Year! I hope that you continue to share the joy and fun with creativity on your KZread channel. You are an inspiration. Thank you, you've brought so much joy and happiness into my life when things have been really tough. Art and being creative, has provided me with the opportunity to focus on the positivity of creating. I am absolutely loving your tin of watercolours - the colours are just so divine - so rich and creamy, and they wet down so beautifully. The soft blush pink is just divine. Your paintbrush set is also really really good, to the extent that I don't like using any other brushes now - they're just brilliant. Quite a few watercolour artists use Princeton brushes, but I haven't tried them as yet. I must say however, that your 18 colour palette doesn't seem to work nearly as well - it almost feels like you have to dig to get any of the colour out. The presentation is also not as good in the 18 colour set - as they're just set in clear plastic.

Hi! I just started two weeks ago! I’m watching your videos and have bought the Mozart Komorebi palette you mentioned in another vid. I love it, esp compared to the really crappy supplies I had the first week of my journey 😂. I’m getting through a bunch of your vids and loving painting flowers. The Mozart pallette does not have pastels, so I find myself getting bogged down with mixing pastel colors with the little bit of white in the pan. I LOVE pastel colors and am thinking I should go ahead and buy a set. Recommendations? Arteza? Derwent? Should I save my Pennie’s and spring for your little palette - just worried it won’t be pastel enough for what I want, though I love the peach and pale pink in it… Ps I got your brushes, plus a Princeton heritage #6 round, and am having soooo much fun using them 😊

Kristy i had mentioned in my earlier comment that I got your paint palette and am enjoying it, swatching it different ways instead of the usual boxes! But i have a new question or dilemma that’s popped up. After finishing swatching and retiring for the night, the next morning I went in to change the dirty water in my jar. Now here’s the thing. I use a paint puck that sits suctioned to the bottom of the jar. And to my surprise it had become discolored with patches of pink and blue (the puck is all green)! Now I’ve had this puck for more than a year and have used different brand paints (watercolor only). I had not noticed anything different. But only after i used your paints and noticed the next day, the puck had turned to patches of pink and blue. I’m wondering what is it due to? You have any answers? I’d love to hear from you. Thanks in advance.

I received your brushes last week. You have a lot of video's for beginners, but where do I have to start? I did not find the right playlist, is there a list (a top ten) for beginners?

Along the lines of getting supplies- I’ve gotten more supplies than i have painted. It’s easier to get supplies than to stick to painting. So brushes galore, paints galore, paper galore! I certainly would like to experiment your brushes, but since i have all the other types-the round, cat’s tongue, liner etc, the only thing i need is the dagger brush. You wouldn’t be selling just the dagger brushes, would you? I would have to get the entire set?

Kristy, I bought a set of your brushes a few months back on Amazon. I have been meaning to tell you that the wash brush, the ferule (sp?) is loose/wobbly. I am past the return window on Amazon so I can't send them back. Just thought you should know in case others are noticing the same thing.

It’s what I first painted with. Other brands rewet easier but it’s tried and true, very reliable!

I'd love to get that palette of yours but the extra fees I'd have to pay to get it shipped to my country would just be too much to justify. 😢

Is the art for joy starter pallet really $42... I think the colors look beautiful but that seems like a lot...

I'm a little bit of an outlier also, but I absolutely turn off any video that has speed painting. No matter where I see it, I turn if off and even unsubscribe. I am so sorry, because I usually love your videos but the speed painting (and so many many you tubers, unfortunately do it) turns me off every single time because it makes me dizzy and doesn't add anything to my life. There is no good reason to use it, period. But, there are enough youtubers that do not use it, so I'm still able to get my art fix. I hope you will re-consider. I know that all the platforms encourage it, but, sorry, I don't need that in my life. (starts at about 6:16)

Sorry! I use it sometimes. This vid is just about info and not the actual painting.
