In summer I plant lettuce, spinach, cilantro, dill, daikon and other types of radish, turnips, Chinese cabbage and, of course, cauliflower. In my climate (zone 5, but it`s very hot in summer), cauliflower planted in spring blooms in the heat. Spinach winters well under the snow.
I have the old planner and am VERY excited for the new one! It’s been a game changer-Thankyou 😃
I really appreciate videos like this, short sweet and to the point. I’m new to all this and this video is perfectly timed, I was just looking into what I should be planning now that my plants started bearing fruit.
I always find good advice from this channel. I also like the planting calendar very much where I get a reminder what I can start sowing and planting in the spring. Great channel. Thanks for sharing.
Following you from Egypt, thanks for the awesome tips 😊
This video in the middle of winter, makes me very happy.
Thanks for the bush bean suggestion. My potatoes are still growing but will be out in a couple weeks, and I will sow bush beans now to be ready!
Thank you. I’m growing Red Russian Kale, Chard and PSP in plugs ready for planting out when there’s gaps. Thanks for the reminder about fennel - I’ve got my seeds here and they’ll go in today
Southern U S here. I just replanted cucumbers. We had an unusually cool, cloudy spring and it took quite awhile to get the first crop. With temps in the 90's now the seeds sprouted quickly and I'm looking forward to a second crop. (Growing them in a container from the farm store.)

I am planting root vegetables for my fall soup.
Have a few zucchini just popping up in the greenhouse to take over some empty spots. Enjoyed this video. May inspire me to try fall crop of beets.
I had planned to grow kale as well as carrots, beets and chard for winter. Hadn't thought of fennel as something quick-cropping but I'll be adding that to the fall/winter garden now!
Excited to put down some carrots and kale for the fall!
A great , informative site, thank you. I’ve just planted a couple of rows of beetroot and radishes direct into the soil and some French beans which I’ve started in the greenhouse. This year has been brilliant for blackberries, French beans, runner beans and potatoes but absolutely useless for onions and garlic. I look forward to your next video.
Most packets of seed have expected days to harvest. Add 10 days for the lower sun and cooler temps as fall approaches, and add 10 days for harvesting the plants. Subtract these days from the first frost dare in your area. Provider beans have 50 days before beginning the harvest. Add 10 days for the changing weather conditions, and 10 days for length of harvest. Count back 70 days from first fall frost. October 3rd in my case. 70 days from October 3rd is July 25. I just sowed some Provider beans yesterday, August 2nd, so I am hoping for a late frost.

You’ve inspired. I’m going to try purple sprouting broccoli (only recently able to find this in Canada) and some golden beets. I have a three by three sq ft space in the rockery to which I added a nice depth of soil and compost. It has become home to herbs, lettuce, mustard, dill, radishes, and green onions. I’ve become obsessed with filling space with pollinators and food crops. Thank you! Still enjoying your book as well.

It's 6/20 and although I'm finishing building my winter squash arch and planting today, I'm already planning for my fall & winter garden! Carrots, cabbage, beets, a mix of salad yummies and kohl rabi will move in. And I'll even plant more chard - it's not really a favorite but I hadn't thought of using it in smoothies - thanks!

The new version will be even easier/user-friendlier. We're very pleased with it and hope it will help even more gardeners to get the most from their gardens.
This will be my second year to try fall or overwintering vegetables. I've already direct-seeded carrots. I will add garlic, purple lady bok choi, purple turnips, Scotch kale, leeks, and lettuces as it cools down. My 3 raised beds are full sun all day, and I started late (mid-June, due to a move), so I haven't had any lettuce yet. Last year leeks, kale, turnips, chard and beets wintered over. I harvested the beets and chard, they were Spring-sown, but the rest I dug up and transplanted from my previous community garden plot to the new beds after I moved.

@@GrowVeg Thank you , Ben! I found some great starts at my local Grange, so I planted purple kohlrabi, mixed lettuces, mixed kale, broccoli, leeks and something called "kalettes ". I'm in 6a territory, Maryland. Thanks so much for your advice and videos. This year for first time, have sewn succession crops of drying bush beans (Jacob's Cattle, Tiger Eye, and Kebarika) and a southern pea (Whippoorwill Steele's Black) into space vacated by garlic. Also, Grey Zucchini into vacated English Pea location. Hoping to plant some beets and kale into newly vacated spaces as well. Need to discover deer, rabbit and squirrel-proof crops to plant into garlic space vacated outside my fences. I'm using the planner and definitely more organized this year. Also, had much more time (covid) than ever before to weed and enjoy my garden.

I am replanting corn and green beans again. And will most likely replant cucumbers. I didn't have luck with potatoes but will try again. I'm not one for giving up too easily. I tend to get overwhelmed this time of year with harvest storage that I tend not to get much new planted. I am trying more seed saving so crops stay in longer than usual. But I plant things like bok Choy, wax beans, late peas and most importantly cover crops in those gaps. Annual rye and buckwheat have a lot of time to work right now - just remember to cut them before they go to seed. If you want to grow buckwheat Or amaranth for seed I recommend not doing it in your garden!

Yes, spinach does prefer it a little cooler, so if you can find the coolest place in the house then that's a good start. I would expect them to germinate in the low 70s though, so it may just be a question of patience.

Hello GrowVeg! I've recently started a veggie garden, and I have a question... Do you need to harden of snap peas before transplanting outside? If so, please respond soon. Thank You🙏
@GrowVeg
3 жыл бұрын
Any vegetable (even hardy, cold-season vegetables) will need to be hardened off before planting outside, if they have come from a warmer, under cover area. This is to get them used to not just the change in temperature, but also the change in light levels and wind. So while snap peas are generally quite hardy, a week of hardening off is advisable before planting them.
