"overstimulating" is such an accurate description for donki omg 😭😭😭 every time i feel determined to go inside to shop i end up leaving within 5 minutes bc of how noisy and claustrophobic it was

Matsukiyo was my favourite when I went in Japan. Especially, one time when a staff member at the cashier told me about the 15% off deal that was only available to Matsukiyo members, he helped me download the app to sign up for the membership. He was so patient and translated some of the form for me. I'm sure he could tell I was a foreigner and didn't live in Japan yet he still helped me get the deal. I don't even know if that is even allowed lol. I wasn't expecting that at all. He didn't even have to do that for me as a foreigner, who even does that 🥺 I still have the app even though I'm not in Japan anymore 😂

Oh THANK YOU THANK YOU!! What perfect timing to have found this video. I'll be back in Japan soon and really appreciated this detailed, thoughtful look at the pros, cons and everything else in between when it comes to the (as you so well said, 'overwhelming and overstimulating') shopping options in Tokyo. Thanks Tina, another excellent video. You included some genuinely helpful information, like maps, outside shots and advice on which is generally cheaper and most worth visiting. Appreciated. 🙏

I've been trying to get into Japanese skincare and this is exactly what I was looking for when going to Japan to shop for skincare products and I almost always go to your videos for guidance. I appreciate all the hard work you guys do. You answered all of what I would ask, saving so many people time having to do research and looking it up. Ainz&Tulpe's point card (on smartphone) is so good and to me, it's one of the best out of any shops. I buy my contact lenses there and it fills up points quite quickly. At 50p you get 1000 JPY reduction and at 100p you get 2500 JPY reduction. They also have a lot of coupons (although they used to be better than they are recently). I tend to do my best to buy there if I can because it's so good. (I usually go to the Shinjuku store in front of the station).

I can imagine having to buy a whole new luggage just to carry all my shopping back home 😂Was just thinking how it would also be nice to see you review some of the Japanese makeup while you do a look with it? Think it would be quite interesting too since most youtubers usually review korean makeup. That said, I've been paying more attention to Japanese beauty and makeup brands since watching your channel. Recently got some makeup from esprique by kose. The synchro fit liquid uv is quite nice to use as an added spf boost

Loved your vlog. I went to japan earlier this year. Found some new stores, Serra is a good one , it’s a bit like Daiso , but different products. So affordable. We went crazy in there. Got a lot of cute stationary, hair accessories, character merch. It was in a department store in Ginza , of all places lol. Didn’t see any other Serra stores , anywhere else though. Would love to visit a hands store and the muji store. But top on the list would be cosme store . I feel that stores like these in Japan , you have to know where they are first. They can be hidden or not where you’d expect. Bit of research goes along way. I’ve been so close to some of the stores you mentioned, and didn’t even know they were there. Lol ❤

This probably wasn't an issue for you since you speak Japanese, but what is the shopping experience like for someone who doesn't? I can only do so much with Google Translate and Duolingo!! Do the employees speak any English? Does it depend on the region? Like I'd imagine more people speak English in a major city like Tokyo than in other parts of Japan. I've always wanted to visit Japan (and many other places) but the language barrier has always scared me!

I went in 2018 Tokyo. I went to Shibuya109, Loft, Matsukiyo, Donki, combini (conviene store) and Disney Store for DisneySea Tickets. And my friend is going in October so I'm also helping her. You just need to know how to get around the city, the basic shopping phrases and what to expect which there are a lot videos like for example each floor has a cashier so is advised to checkout on that floor before moving on to next. Anyways, they usually have have have one or Clerks who can speaks english but they are very patient. I wear contacts but I forgot my contact solution so I went to the local convinces store and asked in basic Japanese because the clerk didn't speak english and he was able help me. I also bought contact lens at Donki in Asakusa with no issues around 10 pm at night but it was really crowded. I also visited the Matsukiyo in the area which had more variety and less expensive than shopping in Shibuya. Shibuya109, Donki and Loft+Tokyu Hands are close each other so you can do full day of shopping it's just a lot more touristy.
