Best Speargun For Beginners!!? - MAKO Spearguns Unboxing/Review

Спорт

Is the MAKO Spearguns Predator Pro speargun the best speargun for beginners? This video is my review of this speargun and how good it really is. I've had this gun for a couple months now and have had enough time to really review the gun and decide whether or not is is suitable for a first time diver or a diver looking to upgrade to their first speargun. I can tell you that I've used it in bad and good visibility, small and big fish, kayak and shore diving, and been pretty brutal on it the entire way. This gun hasn't budged. Hopefully this review will help a couple more beginner spearfishermen take a leap and really get into the sport.
Spearfishing has a real community surrounding it and the more people we can have diving safely with friends and buddies the better. MAKO does a great job of making high quality and affordable gear that can be used by beginners and experienced divers alike.
If this review was helpful, leave a comment below and I will try to create reviews of the rest of my gear in the future.
Buy a gun get out there! I hope I can see you in the water someday for a DIVE!!!

Great video. I shoot pretty much all my fish with a MAKO Speargun .. well sometimes a pole spear. I probably have 150 videos posted of me shooting with different MAKO guns. They are very good guns.

They have upgraded their gun selection. Better guns, no longer sell the base model predator gun. The new roller mechanism is smoother and stronger!

Nice video, looks like a great beginner gun. When I first saw it I was like hmmmmmm real for a beginner? Then I saw you mention the buoyancy issue. Take the reel off and it would be great to learn on.

Yeah, or maybe a floatline would be a good idea as well to add buoyancy. The problem here is California is dealing with a floatline in the kelp can become quite a hassle.

@@TheWaterloggedWoodsman so true! I didnt really consider that. It's so different from our conditions in Australia. In that case yep that looks like a deadly beginner gun. Look forward to more videos

Did you try adding cork into the shaft to add buoyancy? I vaguely recall reading or seeing a video about this DIY trick.

  • @TheWaterloggedWoodsman

    @TheWaterloggedWoodsman

I don't think cork on the shaft would be good idea, would probably throw the aim off. Maybe there is a way to increase buoyancy in the barrel though it should probably displace the same amount of water. Plus I don't mind a negatively buoyant gun when loaded, I just want it to float unloaded.

So it comes with a reel attached straight from the website? I’m ordering the predator pro soon and I’m curious it doesn’t mention it on the site from what I seen

No the reel is an addition I ordered for diving in California because a float line tends to get tangled in the kelp. It was just a box to check when ordering or something. The reel is high quality though if you were thinking about it. Not necessary though if you have a floatline or dive shallow water mostly.

@@austyncollins9400 Hey man I have some bug with youtube where I was notified of your comment "what size gun is this", but cant see it or reply directly to it so I am just responding to an old one. In california, I used an 80cm which is what most of the video is. My go to gun for my east coast diving is a 120cm for pretty much anything else but I've also used 100cm and 110cm in North Carolina with success. Its really species and condition dependent which one I use. Longer for better vis, shorter for worse vis and hard backstops so I dont mess up shafts after they pass through.

Cole Pickford thanks so much for the info also I have one more question man and I’ll leave you alone promise lol does the predator pro come with a shark clip? I just ordered the 3rd gen and I plan on usin a float line but some seem to not come with it stock did yours?

@@austyncollins9400 No I don't think they do. It has a hole in the handle so you can tie some rope so I have a loop through the handle tied to a tuna clip (I think that's what you mean). Pretty easy to do with some 550 cord or dynema.

@@tjpereira1564 Yes, as you advance, better gear becomes important. But if you're a beginner and not sure whether or not to continue the sport, cheap is better. If you have the money and drive to continue to dive then there are definitely better options. But this video was about a gun for beginners.
