VERY IMPORTANT TO NOTE... noise cancelling is not for hearing protection! In fact, noice cancelling can give a false sense of protection. The reality is that because of the way noise cancellation works, you are actually increasing the damage to your ears compared to something with actual certified noise ISOLATION. Please correct your video, or do a follow-up to explain this to your viewers. This cannot be understated or ignored. IsoTunes specifically focuses on hearing protection which is also why you cannot hear your music when doing loud actions like the jointer/planer. Its their FOCUS. To protect. Apple AirPods Pro are for entertainment, enjoyment, sound quality etc. Not to protect. All that said, great video production and appreciate your effort. I understand how much time it takes to produce a solid video like this.

Bogus claim. Reduce loud sounds limits sound to 75dB on Airpods Pro when using iPhone or Apple Watch as the audio source. Safer, more comfortable and better sounding than the iostunes. This said, on Android the IsoTunes are possibly the better option. This zaid, you can also simply never turn volume past 50% on android and have the same safety that the IsoTunes provide. However android will always be less safe because it allows content loud peaks, such as this video, to play on your headphones. iOS doesn't allow any peak greater than 75dB to play ever. This video in itself btw may be causing hearing loss. IMO irresponsible to post this video with the shop sounds at full blast.

​@@kassper82 My source is 30 years in the audio industry with a specific focus on in-ear monitors. If you look closely at the tech specs for the airpods pro, you'll see that they mention a "Vent system for pressure equalization" in the audio technology section. This also proves the point that these are not for hearing protection. Loud sudden sounds completely bypass the negative audio generated and your hearing is not "protected" in an event like that. It's also worth pointing out that since Apple doesn't have a focus on hearing protection from external sources, they don't advertise a rated decibel reduction. Again proving they aren't intended to protect your hearing from external sources.

@@robertwilsoniii2048 that's putting a limit on the sound generated by the airpods, and it is not suggesting that it reduces external audio by any stated value. They are certainly more comfortable than isotunes (I agree with you there), but they are not intended to protect you in a loud environment. The caveat to that is that they can be allowed to alert you if you are in a loud environment. In which case, they suggest you find a way to seek a quieter environment. Its part of a feature they call Live Listen if i recall correctly.

Wow, thank you for doing all these sound clips! Other reviews don't do that and I always feel like it is lacking that.

Thanks for this video. It confirmed what I read online that "passive" noise reduction like the isotunes, are better for workshop type noise than "active" noise reduction like in the earpods.

From the video, it sounded like the isotunes actually blocked a majority of the sound while cutting wood. The iPod pros seemed to cut out the motor sounds from the tools but cutting wood was very high pitched and annoying. Great video!

Did you try putting the Airpods pro into the hidden 3rd mode where it's neither noise canceling nor transparent? You have to go into the settings on an apple device to enable it, but then you can cycle through the 3 by holding the button. I'm curious how they compare in a more apples to apples comparison, especially since ANC isn't true noise isolation as far as hearing damage is concerned.

Hello Carter - thank you for watching! I've found no such 'hidden' setting. The settings I am aware of are ANC, Transparency, and Off. Is off what you are referring to?

I my opinion based on your video I would want ISO tunes, because there could be a safety issue of someone walking into your shop and you not even hearing them talking to you with the noise cancelling on the Air Pods.

Hi Cory - thanks for watching! That is an excellent point. I have personally experienced not being able hear people or other events in the shop with the AirPod Pros in. Usually if something catastrophic happens in the shop you will hear it, but certainly people have walked in and started talking to me without me hearing anything. One more data point to the decision.

For sure the isotunes not only are they certified to use in construction but the airpods give a ear bleeding high pitch noise compared to a low pitch noise and half the price you cant go wrong with the isotunes

I have bought almost every product that isotunes has made and now I am waiting for my isotunes links to be delivered.

Hi Joseph - yep, they make great tools. I'm not a big fan of over the ear protection in the shop so I'm waiting for active noise canceling ear buds from them. Hoping it comes soon.

What one would you recommend using them when mowing on a zero turn, but wanting to listen to music? Thanks!!

Like the AirPods -- I was never able to hear my music well with the IsoTunes. BUT - folks will say that is because the IsoTunes limit the volume of the music, which is true. In the end, IsoTunes are approved hearing protection, and AirPods are not. Hope that helps - thanks for watching!

Hello Victor - volume and pitch/tone. The active noise cancelation raises the pitch of the sounds; the IsoTunes noise blockers lower the pitch/tone. Hope this helps!

Which one would you recommend for blocking the sound of a lawn mower for hearing protection?

I usually use my AirPod Pros for mowing the lawn, but both will work. The IsoTunes will likely block the noise better, but you can hear the music better with the AirPods. Hope that helps -- thanks for watching!

Active noise cancellation is Not hearing protection, Isotunes on the other hand is approved hearing protection according to OSHA-standard (22 dB) wich airpods are not. Ontop of that Isotunes are IP45 protected meaning that they are dustproof, airpods are only IPx4 meaning they are Not dustproof.

Air pod pros fall out of my ears no matter which ear rubber piece I install on them. When I first put them in though they are amazing.

@@cyberreefguru Google it. Anc takes the equal and opposite sound frequency to actively cancel out the sounds in the shop. The downside of this is your headphones are always blasting an additional frequency into your ear. Even if you don't pick up on it, you are most certainly damaging your hearing. For example air suction sounds or machining noises that are nonstop in the machine shop.

@@cyberreefguru to further elaborate the principal has been applied to professional musicians for a long time at live music shows with in ear monitors. A much more expensive version of iso tunes is something like "Shure in ear monitors" or to take it a step further companies make extremely expensive custom fit in ear monitor options.

I've been using my airpod pros for a few weeks now and can 100% not recommend them, they are by no means hearing protection. So please DO NOT EVEN COMPARE THEM. THIS IS COMPARING APPLES TO ORANGES.

Well, I've already compared them :) Please help me understand why you feel the are not hearing protection? Others have indicated as such too. They are not OSHA rated for sure, but they 1) block noise and 2) cancel noise.
