BEST ROWERS IN THE WORLD - legendary Zac Purchase in depth video analysis

Спорт

In a recent question on rowing.zone I was asked the question who the best rowers to watch and learn from were. So I sat down and started to work on a series of videos, of which this is part 2.
Men and women alike can learn from their exceptional rowing and sculling technique.

A true master class on explaining the position of the shoulders. I learned a lot. I often struggle with getting just the right amount of muscle tension to maintain posture and absorb the forces put upon the torso and at the same time remain supple during the drive. In the late 70's and early 80's I had a number of coaches tell rowers to dorsiflect the feet to come up the slide in order to get more run out of the boat. While I don't think dorsiflexion creates greater run I always thought it helped position the spine to be more upright at the catch.

Good video, I fully agree. Lock the blades first and don't hammer the catch.

Excellent. When I Iearned to row my time was always spent in a sweep rigged 8+. There was not a word of training on the pelvic tilt. This topic was completely untouched and I never developed any sense of what the pelvis should or should not be doing. When I transfered to the single scull I felt lost because I truly was. That is why your videos are so important for the untutored rower of a single.

Majority of what you see is what Zac self taught. Majority of his early coaching was on training programs associated with fitness and speed virtually zero technique work. Later from age 17/18 upwards more technical input came to hone and better perfect the technique to get more speed for the work put in.
