Thank you for this. I’ve been waiting for someone to post some routes for me. I would love to see each one of these routes to have its own video. Maybe including where to park to start the ride and a screenshot of the route.

Excellent idea. I added links to my corresponding videos in the description, but there's also an article linked at the top of it. You can always check a more robust listing on our gravel guide page: gravelbikecalifornia.com/california-gravel-guides/

@@GravelBikeCalifornia Thank you for the link. I didn’t know this info existed. It’s great but I still don’t know which dots are the trails you talked about in this video.

Always high quality contents. This guy deserves much larger subs. I enjoy your script, with puns, quips, and wits. You are my favorite cycling channel. Thanks! 👍👍

Sharing the gravel love! That's what it's all about. Doing what we can to bring new gravelers into the fold. To me that's one of the greatest things about gravel, the inclusivity. We lead some "novice/new to gravel" group rides here locally to try to encourage those who might be hesitant to jump in. Thanks for being CA gravel's top ambassador, Zack. This is so helpful for people like me that are super casual and can’t really do climbs

For SoCal, LA area, I would also suggest dirt Mulholland, from Topanga Canyon east to Encino/405 fwy. It's possible to add in lots of canyons and detours to the San Fernando Valley or the Westside. Great video as always, thanks!

I thought about that, but my friend broke his shoulder the first time out on that descent near Caballero. It is pretty loose there.

Love seeing this! Cycling, and gravel in particular is/should be a very inclusive sport for riders of all ages, abilities and fitness levels.

Mammoth short for beginners. The short effort there is equal to longer medium distance at other events due to the elevation. Big bear for just a day of relaxing is a needed break from the heat. The east county and IE depends on rainy winters from clay mud or snow higher up and when heatwaves start in summer. East county and IE is fall and spring is best bet. Chino hills has some flatter canyon rides right off the SART on southeast side of park or Bonelli loop favors beginners.

I'm also hit or miss how the elevation affects me. At least for Mammoth, the "big climb" is early and paved. Definitely a lot of rides out where you're talking, and hopefully my Gravel Pack Riverside reference helps point to joining a group.

Great info and inspiration! I’m in SoCal and look forward to riding Pt. Mugu. Riding an eMTB right now, any suggestions for buying a used gravel in the $2,000 range?

Tough to say because you never know what's going to be available on the used market, but you should get a really good bike for the price. We're also in a golden age, as there are so many good bikes out there.

Can you edit this video to include Yankee Jim’s? This way I can tell my girlfriend “see, the first gravel ride I took you on is in fact a beginners ride” 😂
