I expect this mower will last several seasons with decent care. kzread.infoUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend Also, I ran across the problem with it not starting the 2nd time I used it. There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.

I have a 2019 Cub Cadet Ultima ZT1 (42”) and mow 2 acres. It cost $2800 “out the door”. The LED lights and tow hitch are a nice feature. Didn’t see it on the Arians. I’ve gotten late starts mowing and it’s nice being able to finish the job when it gets dark. I occasionally need to pull a small yard trailer to pick up sticks or move mulch around the yard too so the standard hitch is nice. The Ultima sits up higher also and gives you a better perspective on the yard. My 42” deck doesn’t move like the 50” deck you demonstrated. BTW the Ultima has much better “curb appeal” also.

I think these guys just don’t like cub cadet. They’re picking dumb stuff to compare. Arm rests? The mower being kinda loud?? And big boy was running wide ass open on a bumpy yard and talking about the deck bouncing. Well no crap. Look how the ariens deck was dipping into all the holes they were cutting through. Very uneven cut. My zt1 50 leaves a beautiful cut in my less than ideal yard.

@@jacobs6865 I feel the same way, seems they are against the cub cadet more than just for the other mower. I got a zt1 last year, I'm a bigger guy, sat on lots of different mowers around and out of anything in that price range, it was the most comfy. It's true I just mow my crappy little yard, but I never notice uneven cuts or stragglers unless I'm speeding along. I still love my cub.

Bought a Cub Cadet ZT1 Ultima 50" a few months ago. As for the cutting quality, mine does a beautiful job. Maybe your deck wasn't leveled properly? Hands down, the Cubby is the best looking mower out there. Badass tubular frame construction, beefy back tires, great colors, and a super comfy seat. It also has adjustable lap bars, a deck wash system, and headlights, things the Ariens doesn't have. If you check out the reviews, it has way better reviews from the owners. For me, it's Cub Cadet all the way!

Just bought the Ultima ZT1 54". Like riding a Cadillac cutting grass on 4 acres now! The seat is second to none and the controls are smooth! Ordered the fenders for it but after going through our roadside ditch that still had water in it after the ran the night before, i was impressed that the open no fender machine didn't sling muddy water on the engine or frame or me! The cleanup after finishing the yard was super easy, the aeroforce deck has no places on it where grass clippings build up like our previous machine! The only thing I noticed was a build up of grass clippings on each side of the battery under the seat, but an air hose quickly remedies that situation on cleanup!

Read the assembly pamphlet. The lap bars on the Ariens are indeed adjustable and it should be easy to add a couple of headlights (holes already exist). Hell, even drilling a hole in the deck for a deck washing adapter should be simple enough for most.

I originally bought a ZT1 50" and the deck was way off in terms of correct height along with it not being properly leveled. So I spent almost an hour making sure the blades were actually cutting at 4" which is where I had the dial set. I then returned the ZT1 for a ZT2 and it was spot on right out of the box.

I leveled the deck side to side and front to back. The only thing is that it did not come with a hour meter. It's wired for one that I had to purchase separately. At least it was wired for one and the install was easy. Great video. Also, we have a 15 thousand dollar or more Toro zero turn at work. It doesn't cut any better than the Cub Cadet.

Honestly, as far as ride, power and cut the old Cub Cadet is hard to give up. I do keep sharp Gator blades on her for an awesome cut. Anyway, repairs are getting to be more and more and I've decided to bite the bullet and get the new one. I have owned the Gravely ZTX 42 for 2 years now. 320hrs on the machine to date. Used for about 40+ properties. It's a beast of a machine even though it's not classified as a "commercial-grade" unit. It will climb a hill and stripe well! I'm amazed at its dependability and durability. If the residential class is this good, I'm excited to see what their commercial units will do. Few upgrades I've done to mine is 1) Advanced Cute System, chute blocker from Ballard-Inc. [$200] and 2) Drainz-It hose kit [$20] for easier oil changes. Have had to replace the deck belt [$40] twice and had transmission belt come loose one time. Other than that its an outstanding mower!!! Highly recommend and will buy another Gravely unit in the future.

Good job on the review. The point on the blade when you lift the guard to get thru gates and around plants on the lawn ought to be an issue cub addresses quickly. Good job catching that. Another helpful tool in the decision process for me is to watch some repair videos on each unit to get an idea of how difficult common repairs are.i knew that tequila makes clothes fall off, didn’t know humidity did too. Another lesson learned.

I'm starting my second full season of mowing with a Cub Cadet Ultima zt1 50. When I got it I hated the cut of it. I told my father in law how much I regretted the purchase. But it was too late. So I finished up that year and mowed all of last year with a ugly sub par cut. Pretty much having to cut the yard twice every time I cut. Anyhow I was watching KZread videos and I cannot remember which creator it was but they showed how to ensure that your deck was level and how to level it. I assumed that it was set correctly either by the factory or the Cub Cadet dealer but what I found was the rear left side was an inch higher and the right side was 3/4" too high. So I leveled the deck up and now I am totally satisfied with the cut. It has made all the difference. But if given a choice between the 2 mowers in question in this video I'd definitely pick the Ariens even if it were a smaller cut.

If you guys are going to do a fair, unbiased overview of various mowers then include ALL of the information. Apples to apples! How many months did IKON give the mower to you for comparison.? Many or keep it? The Kawasaki engine on the Cub is a huge selling point. Just sayin’. The engine/ transmission combo on the Kubota swayed me away from Gravely....... and the Gravely was more $$. I noticed you cut the grass on a flat surface. Did you try either mower on inclines or hilly yards? I am curious on the stability of the front part of the mower. Does the front raise up when mowing on an incline? The bigger tires looks like it would help with this issue. Your thoughts please

I have the ariens ikon x 52 I really like it as for the back tires I upgraded mine to a larger and wider tires which will fit on the stock rims that made a big difference on hills and slopes. It’s my 2nd season with this mower and it has a high quality cut. My cousin uses this mower in his business and cuts 65 yards a week and has had no problems with it.

How do these compare with the Simplicity courier? Also the Ariens looks alot longer. Does this help with stability?

  • @erice3933
    @erice39333 жыл бұрын

Smaller decks tend to cut better because the deck always attacks the surface in a straight line. The more you extend that line the more likely the deck will miss something on uneven terrain. You should compare mowers with similar deck sizes. Also many mower lines use the same engine for multiple deck sizes. A 24 HP on a 42" cuts better than a 24 HP on a 60"

Hey Andy, I am a weekend warrior mowing about 10 lawns a week in Florida. I have thw Ariens edge 34 and its perfect to get in the back yards, but I'm looking to get a bigger mower for the front yards and larger properties. I'm having trouble deciding between the Ariens Ikon XD 60" and the Toro Timecutter w/o myride 60". They're both 4k and that's my budget for now. Which one would you choose for light commercial work over the other? (About 10 hours a month) thanks!

I know this is a earlier video, but it looks to me like you guys were into the Ariens a lot and I've been looking hard at this very same machine and at the price level and quality level - I too believe this one is a winner. Plus as you said it's all about the mow quality as well. TY for a great test and showing that a change sometimes can be better. BTW in 2021 they had some improvement as well and I'm glad to see anything that will make me be able to get more bang of my buck.

I was having some cut issues with my zt2 I started looking over things and found the tires were way over inflated!! Side wall of the tires in the rear state inflate to 10psi and front I believe is 22psi. When i checked them rear tires were at 25psi and fronts at 30psi. I set them to what the tires state and cut and ride quality improved! Something just to check on the zt1 you guys are using.

Does the food deck lift to access the upper mower deck? Are headlights included on Ariens? I have two slopes in series between 12 and 18 degrees and pull a 48" plug aerator also drag limbs. Is this a disqualifer for a zt type mower. Have been looking at a Husqvarna TS 348 tractor for this reason and it has limited slip diff. What do you think?

I own the Ikon XL 52. The grass chute lasted about four hours of mowing, I have seen several complaints about this very thing. If you turn left the chute binds hangs up and breaks. They don't last long. The reason I bought the Ikon XL 52 is the hydro static drive is the same you find on the most expensive commercial mowers which are serviceable and each have their own filter. The Ikon X-52 or the Cub Cadet doesn't have the better system, so good comparison. A problem for me on the Ikon XL 52 is, the deck lift pedal is to close to the seat and made it difficult for me to raise the deck so I made an extension that spaces between the linkage and pedal spacing the pedal away from me an additional 4". Even with my chute off the mower, It really doesn't seem to throw things badly

Watching/listening to your video, I found the two to be about the same as loudness of the engines (the Ariens is quieter at idle though. I'd take a Kawasaki engine over a Kohler any day--they're more reliable. My experience with Kohlers has been mostly bad; in fact I'm looking to buy a new ZT mower this year because the Kohler engine I had in my riding mower went bad, and I'm meticulous about maintenance. I'm looking at an Ariens Ikon XD or a similar Cub Cadet model.

Someone I know drilled a hole and put in an eye bolt to grab in order to lift the shoot up a few inches. Pretty good idea and only cost a couple bucks to keep your fingers from going under it. I purchased the Ikon X 42" in September for a steal because they just wanted it gone due to not carrying it anymore and was missing a battery and deck belt (huge inconvenience, right? lol). Hell the bagger for it almost cost as much as I paid lol. Anyways, I love it. It cuts fantastic and with the Kawasaki motor its suuuuuuper quiet at full rev. You can have a conversation standing right next to it.
