As a newbie to the hobby, I got myself an LP60X since I didn't want to invest too much at first in case I lost interest quickly like I often do. So far I am absolutely loving it and I definitely see myself continuing doing so in the future, it was a great choice for a beginner!

Honorable mention for the Audio Technica AT-LP120XUSB! I'm still eyeing up the black and copper one online 😍 I still haven't bought a turntable yet (renos at home and offsite assignments over the years) but regularly enjoy this channel oh so much! It's a great happy place, and a place of comfort 😊

I reccomend the steepletone chicago for beginner record enthusiasts. I have one myself, and its honestly great. It is a combo machine, with tape+disk, but for a combo machine, its excellent for records. It comes with 2 speakers which are quite good, but not amazing. Paired with some expensive speakers though and it will sound amazing.

Audio Technica LP60 is a Crosley without the amp and speakers. That spring downforce will give you anywhere from 4-6 grams which puts it in “Groove Grinder” territory. The LP120 is when I start recommending AT products.

LP’s are designed to play working 5-7 grams by Columbia’s own standard. “Groove grinding” only happens when you get into the 10-12 gram range. Even then, unless you’re using a styrene record, it’s not going to cause THAT much of an issue. I’d recommend watching vwestlifes many videos on these common misconceptions. He does excellent work to prove these are overblown myths.

Those fluance arms have an effective mass of 23 grams making them impossible to match with a cartridge. Also the number 4 sounds better than all 3 of them. Only 5 and 4 are smart options. 5 is a good budget option, 4 is an absolute steal. Fluances have the aforementioned effective mass issue, Pro-ject sounds dead as a dodo. Audiotechnica't AT-LP120x is a good sounding machine too, for what it is. And the AT-LP5x has absolutely zero business sounding as good as it does. Generally though, if you want something good and affordable; Pioneer PL-112D, Audiotechnica AT-VM95ML. Thank me later.

You are wrong but right at the same time. No, it will not destroy a 78. 78’s are designed to go through literal ounces of weight with steel needles pushing into them. You can use a regular stylus just fine using a regular turntable, you’ll just get a lot of surface noise. To reduce surface noise you will need a 3 mill stylus. Please don’t talk about things you aren’t fully aware of, you can confuse and scare people.
