I know of Writing Excuses but find their archive super overwhelming! It also seemed like, upon first glance, that a lot of the eps were writing 101, which is less interesting to me. It's one I will try again at some point, but I have no clue how to even start with it. Recommendations, episode wise, welcome!

Alexa, I would love it if you listened to the Internal Heckler vs Internal Editor episode and shared your thoughts. writingexcuses.com/2013/10/20/writing-excuses-8-42-the-internal-heckler-vs-the-internal-editor/

I recently just started listening to Writing Excuses and I found it really helpful to start with Season 11 (the Elemental Genres). A lot of their podcasts are rather writing 101 but they're fun and they often have snippets of spectacular advice amongst the stuff I already knew. The Elemental Genres season was particularly helpful because it went back to the basics of WHAT your stories are doing for the reader (which is something I see talked about less in writing 101 stuff). For instance, I'd never logically considered what it meant to be writing wonder-aka trying to create a sense of awe in your reader-even though that's a style of writing that I naturally gravitate to doing.

Each season from season 10 has had a theme, season 10 was based off of Brandon sanderson's College course and from there they talked about a myriad of topics one of my favorites was when they were talking about Elemental genres and they were talking about you know all the different ways you can mix and match genres and all the different qualities of the different genres and how they fit in with science fiction fantasy well. It is hosted by Brandon Sanderson Dan Wells Mary Robinette kowal and Howard Taylor. Writing excuses, I Should Be Writing by Mur Lafferty, and ditch diggers by Mur Lafferty and Matt Wallace are my three all-time favorite writing podcasts and I listen to them weekly.

Also look into Writing Excuses which has been mentioned several times in the comments already. I'll be Writing by Mur Lafferty, she started the podcast over a decade ago when she was a wannabe fiction writer she is now a multi published fiction writer. Ditch Diggers (explicit) by Mur Lafferty and Matt Wallace, ditch-diggers is less about the craft of writing and more about the business side of writing from marketing, to editors, and agents, and Publishing houses, self-publishing, money, networking, other types of writing jobs than just novel writing. I listen to all of these regularly and I have learned so much about the process of writing the craft the business finding an agent all of it's been hugely informative.

THESE SOUND WONDERFUL! I don't currently listen to any podcasts that aren't also cross published here on KZread. And of those, I don't (yet) listen to any about books or publishing. I'm excited to delve in :)

Thanks for the recs, Alexa! Other than the staples like Writing Excuses (Brandon Sanderson, Mary Robinette Kowal, Dan Wells, Howard Tayler) and Helping Writers Become Authors (K.M. Weiland) there is one more I can recommend. It's called Death Of 1000 cuts by writer and poet Tim Clare. He started out by having readers of his blog submit the first page of their unfinished novel and just analyzing the sh** out of it. I loved those episodes the most because this kind of in-depth analysis of what went wrong with a text, why and recommendations on how to fix it just hits all of my buttons at once. He has since transitioned to a mix of interviewing other authors, rambling about life as a writer and giving advice on writing. I just love his voice, his advice, his topics and general attitude towards life (be kind to yourself!) though fair warning, he is a bit of a rambler. I usually save his podcasts for long walks with my dog or while washing a mountain of dishes. Recently I have also started listening to The Story Grid podcast by Shawn Coyne who is looking at writing from an editor's point of view. So far I'm liking it but since I'm only two episodes in I'm not giving a full-hearted rec yet.

It's rare to hear authors mention podcasts because they're underrated. I recommend the podcast Girl In Space because the main character is stuck in a spaceship with an AI and she doesn't remember how she got there. Also, she loves Jurassic Park and she finds out that she's not the only one who's there. I think you would like it.

Greetings Ms. Alexa! I'm new to your channel so, first of all, it's a pleasure to meet you. Also, I noticed your book Brightly Burning in the background and I happen to be a huge Mercedes Lackey fan and her novel is also titled Brightly Burning. So I have a question and that is: how are different authors able to use the same title on two different novels? This isn't the first time I've seen this sort of thing among different books and it has been absolutely bugging me for awhile now. Please help and thank you for your time.

I really recommend the KZread channel called The Creative Penn for podcasts. Joanna interviews writers on the business side of writing, separating the art vs the craft of writing, and all the worries that we go through (imposter syndrome, fear of failure, fear of success...) Joanna has a wonderful channel that will have something for every writer. :)
