Hi! Thanks for your question and my apologies for the delayed reply. Rework of an assembly is defined as the act of reprocessing noncomplying articles, through the use of original or equivalent processing, in a manner that assures full compliance of the article with applicable drawings or specifications. In other words, when a defect condition is found on an assembly, the defective component is removed and another, functional component of the same type is placed on the assembly. This returns the product to the condition required by the customer (Designer). Whereas a REPAIR is the act of restoring the functional capability of a defective article in a manner that does not assure compliance of the article with applicable drawings or specifications. In other words, just fix the assembly by whatever means necessary. For example, if there is a wire on the assembly that breaks or gets cut. A rework would be to splice the wire back together. The original design did not specify a splice, so the assembly will be different from the original requirements, however, the assembly will function like the original device.
