I remember being 4 or 5 years old, my older brother teaching me how to play Halo on his original Xbox. I remember him beating my ass in privates over and over again, I remember being too scared to go past the invisible elite section in cairo. The pride I felt after finally beating the game was something I have never felt since, 22 years old now, gaming still a passion but I cannot help but realize that I will never get those feelings back. Now listening to this soundtrack back and visualizing the memories I had brings tears to my eyes, on the edge of my seat, glued to my TV, my hair most likely stuck to the TV because of the static. Sometimes I wonder if I've done everything right so far in my life, wondered if I've spent too much of my time living in fantasy worlds, but in this moment I feel as if I did it all right. I hope some of you can share these feelings and memories because I would not trade them for the world.

Played through the first 3 games about a month ago. I was never allowed to play Halo as a kid as I had no older brother, and my parents were strict about any video games with blood. Even playing through at 20 years old, on mouse and keyboard, these games invoked a sense of mystery and wonder in me. I experienced a childlike glee as I moved from one mission to the next, the epic music and story guiding me and cementing my investment in the universe I had entered. Even today, the AI of the elites and the storytelling through gameplay in CE makes a mockery of most big studio shooters. I've played games my whole life - nothing has given me the immense feeling of investment I got on my first time through on CE, and much of Halo 2. The story, the old art (which i greatly prefer, despite the fact i have no nostalgic attachment), the looming, wondrous music, the setting of a far off war of advanced species battling for supremacy. I pestered and nagged my parents to let me play Halo Reach for almost a year and a half when I was ten years-old or so until they finally let me play it. Bar none one of the best games I have played to date. A few years later I ended up getting an Xbox One for Christmas, and I had asked for the Halo 5 Xbox. My parents accidentally got me the Master Chief Collection Xbox instead. At the time, I was somewhat disappointed (got Halo 5 not too long after though), but over time I realized how grateful of an experience it was to have received MCC. It introduced me to the first three games which I had never played fully (Halo CE and 2 not at all), with Halo 2 becoming my all time favourite Halo game for its campaign alone, and allowed me to revisit some previous experiences (though minimal). Eventually, got me invested into the franchise, as well as introducing me to Destiny and Destiny 2, absolutely my most played franchise alongside Halo (and good ol' Mario, lol).

Marty is a boss. He influenced my life heavily.

"Unforgotten" is to me the most favorite song and talking about the best song, I'd guess we all can tell, that Martin O'Donnel ever created the best songs for this epic journey, the Halo universe let alone this one "special" who thought might interfere this connection.

Despite so much time passing now, it is incredible how compilations like these can immortalize entire eras of cultural media. You can just feel the 2000s vibes in this compilation & I love it. I miss those days but listening to this makes me feel like I have returned to a much simpler time.

I'm 35. Thank you Bungie for the memories. Greatest era in gaming and we got to live it.

Unyielding is honestly one of my favourite Halo songs. It sounds aggressive, fast, and epic, without taking it over the top. Honestly fits for a Warthog Run.

It's what I appreciate about Halo themes in general, they are especifically and carefully manufactured to complement your experience without being too noisy. Doom fans forgive me, but the main theme of it is nothing compared to the likes of Unyielding, Reclaimer, and Follow in Flight.

I really like how the best of halo 2 soundrack is basically the full Halo2 soundtrack. And I couldn't agree more

No other game series can stand up to the masterfully done soundtracks of the first 3 halo games

Earth City gives me chills. Remember when I was 13 watching the E3 demo video of Halo 2 on my Xbox and getting more hype for that than anything I had in my life.

I put this on while studying for an exam, fell asleep and woke up 2 hours later defending New Mombasa from a Covenant invasion with Sgt. Johnson and Cortana

Dude the overwhelming feeling of sorrow and woe upon listening to "High Charity Suite" is captivating. In tears.

I was born in 2010, so I could not experience this in the era it was in. But I've been playing halo for years. It is the only video game series that has influenced my life. I can feel the nostalgia.

I'm only 14 yet I still have memories of playing halo. Let's just say I have a good uncle. I get shivers hearing that shriek of the guitar in the opening theme. I've only ever played the original reach and master chief collection, in which I own. But uhhh....jackal snipers amirite?

Heretic Hero was something else. In Amber Clad gave a curious sense of... "this is it. the final stretch." Heavy Price Paid brings tears to my eyes. it was menu music, the background music of a level, and speaks to me on several levels. why, I couldn't tell you. then, or 20 some odd years later.

Halo 2 is such a a masterpiece. Listening to the soundtrack (which is beyond amazing) takes me back to playing the game for so many hours as a kid. Especially when Ghosts of Reach comes on.

to think that i was listening this at the same time i was been taught how to talk, write, read. Sometimes when i tell people that never played halo how close and meaningful this piece of media is for me they dont understand it and i dont judge them tbh even if you want to play the games now and have fun i think is one of those things that you had to experience it when it came out to understand it. All the memories all the friends all the custom games. I am in forever debt to every bungie developer and of course to martin and michael for this piece of art. They truly changed my life for the better.

I'm gonna convince some of my buddies to play Halo 1-3 with me like we did in the old days, never hurts to relieve some of those simple moments we never thought would really end.

It was around 2004, this had just released. I rented it from my local video game store. My friend and I split screened the whole campaign. We were left on a cliff hanger... we were salty, but those times. I would do anything to go back, anything. I would give up everything I have now.

The drums/percussion in this soundtrack are dope af, especially Heretic Hero and Flawed Legacy. Has a hip hop feel.

I always imagine co-op and XBL with my buddies while listening to this beautiful soundtrack. Halo 2/3 forever.

I don't know what halo song my all-time favorite is but, it's like probably 10 of them! Love them all the same!

Even as a little kid you knew this soundtrack was fire. I got Halo 2 at Best Buy on the way back from vacation around 2006. Way overdue but it was fun. Then a year later halo 3 for Christmas and so on

Listening to heavy price paid always gets me so sad, love the mission it’s from though. The song reminds me of the good days when I was playing halo 2 campaign and halo reach multiplayer I am about to be 18 and pretty much grew up with halo and I don’t regret any of it I will always come back to halo.

I have an electric bike and a really good Bluetooth speaker and very often I've biked through my city seeing the neon lights at night or early at sunrise on highway width roads blasting Halo music. With weed of course but not always! It's honestly an amazing experience on an electric bike it just feels so cool like you're going onto a mission to defeat some covenant who have infiltrated your city.

My favourite is the finale, it just sounds epic and wonderful

Every time I hear Heretic Hero. I feel like falling from orbit in a fucking fiery drop pod at hundreds of miles per hour smoking a cigar with a rifle on my right. If ODST's were real. They'd be feared more than any warrior in Human history.

At 8:11 that should part should be used for a Halo trailer for Halo infinite or if they ever make an elite based game this should be the teaser for it

Good times. Although for me it was mostly getting my butt kicked in multiplayer.

Halo 2 you could really feel the forerunners regret for what they had to do. Loved the callouts in the series, the monitors names, and songs included were fantastic.

It's 12 am. I got work tomorrow. I've just taken a bowl. My mind is foggy, but my goals have never been more clear. Impend starts to play. I can be tired at work.

I doubt we’ll ever have soundtracks like this anymore because we’ll never have games like this anymore. Corporations are more focused on just make it and send it out so we can profit. But I feel like this was a time when videos games weren’t as conglomerate as they are now. More creative independent thought, halo has a true pop culture identity, not because it copies everything the modern games do ie. battle royal, online focused, pay to win, seasons and relying on the sale of accessories. Bro you could choose a main colour and a secondary colour and a symbol and that’s all halo 2 gave you. What else did you really need? They focused on gameplay, story, characters, setting and most importantly a soundtrack that encapsulates the world of halo. You can listen to the halo soundtrack and imagine every single mission in your head because it’s so iconic. But not in a bro that’s so lit fad way but a more professionally well thought out concept. I suggest getting The Art of Halo, it’s an old book but it’ll bring back memories you long forgot.

Just in case you guys didn't realize this already, the guitar in the first track is Steve Vai. He is also just free styling the whole thing.
