Just purchased a 993 TT Arena Red, with 32K miles, I am completly satisfied. Incredible car...even after 13 years still a wonderful ride. Fully upgradable if one wishes to do so, but mine is staying stock. Car still fetches $65k plus...Find one quick !!! :)

The 993 seems so small now compared to the modern 911's. The 911 is starting to turn into a GT with the Boxster and the Cayman filling the slot of what the 911 started as-a compact sports car. I used to love the turbo, but now I think the GT3 is the 911 to have - love it!

The 993 shape was beautiful, it still looks great today, maybe even better than it ever has.

I can still remember the first time I saw the 993 Turbo. I couldn't believe somebody was driving a silver one, down the twisty road I wanted to drive my dream car on. In a town with no exotic cars; somebody from out of town or someones relative had to ruin my dream of driving this car down there first....guess I'll have to settle for "second". I'd be happy with that. I love this car.

Was about to purchase a 997 turbo 2yrs ago and drove a 993 turbo. The 997 was a beautiful car and faster but the experience was numb compared to the 993. So I subsequently purchased a 993 tt with 45k miles and had the engine rebuilt with upgraded turbos, pistons clutch, varioram plenum, not plastic etc and now has 580hp @ 1 bar! Much faster and more responsive then the 997 and a much better driving experience, Also a coil-over suspension! Look forward to tracking it

They have... boxster and Cayman... but that is the magic of a 911.. the GT3 for example is unbelievable through the corners... it is that extra weight from the Rear engine configuration that gives it such good traction.. The snap oversteer is a minor side effect :)

The 993 is my favourite car of all time (my dad had three in the 1990's) and the intro was a Dire Straits track - can you beat it!!!!

I want the 959. It really doesn't get much better than that.

i love how the 993 still had some of that classic 911 style but modern technology. i wonder how this car would do around a course with the tires of that era compared to the tires of today

I don't care what you guys said, but this car has been my dream since i was a kid back in the mid 90s I want to own it someday. Even until today, frankly speaking, I still prefer it to the 997 Turbo.

Oh My God, how close he drives to the edge. If I could drive like him and own own a car like that...

The turbo is the perfect sports car on real world driveing world's very few cars can keep up with it.

I have owned 2 of these wonderful cars, a 1996 I own now and a 1997 I sold recently. ONLY negative I have is, without a doubt, the VW pedals...! I have a size 13 shoe, and let me tell you it is virtually impossible to heel and toe at the track, and even normal every day driving becomes a little complicated from time to time, but hey...so many positives out number the 1 negative. Excellent machine, get one as they are available less and less each year. Enjoy...

This car really does rule. Last of the "Proper" turbos. Don't get me wrong, liquid cooled turbos have been great (996, 997), but the sound of an air cooled twin turbo Porsche, is truly one of motorings best sounds.

That small clip of Bett's magic sounded so good I was mistaken, this was after Duane. Still a mesmerizing song, especially when you smoke chrondo.

Sold my Arena Red 993 (dunno why!!) a few months ago...one of the worse days of my life!!! But just bought a Midnight Blue 993 TT with 29k miles!!! Ohh man !!! Awesome in every way... Even after 15 years. I will post video soon.

I never realised 8 percent more torque could make such a difference. Wow! I will see if I can get another 8 percent torque for my car. It is not Porsche but I'm hoping it will make the same difference. Awesome.

Shop a used 993 turbo versus a used 996 turbo. Same mileage, condition, options, etc... and the 993 will almost invariably cost some 30 to 40% more. It's incredible how well these things have held their value -- unless of course you're looking to buy one, in which case it's frustrating how well they've held their value...

I agree, I have always been a big fan of the old 911s.. however the new ones may not have the same standards of quality but they are much further ahead as a drive..(new carrera S for example) but i agree with you

Because the Boxster is a more accessible model and the Cayenne appealed to a whole new market. If they didnt have the revenue from these models the 911 would not be as rediculously good as it is today.

Obviously coming from someone who has never driven a 911 before. If you know how to drive, that weight over the rear wheels can give phenomenal traction through corners not to mention from standing starts. Take BMW's M3 CSL... one of my favourite cars, however the GT3 hammers in in every way despite the rear engine layout.

Agreed. The new 991 looks nice too but it might be too much of a GT. I'll hold my judgment until the GT3 comes out.

@DroverChicago I know! In Canada they cost almost $100k!!! Which is almost as much as a 997.2 GT3 RS!!!!!

The 959's engine was 2847cc. Tiff (and everyone else) rounds it to 2.85 litres.

It's Allman brothers, but there's no slide in "Jessica".

Everyone wants purity, but without the Cayenne etc they would have the money to make the 911 as good as it is.

@dvamateur i agree the 993 from the rear looks beautiful, the front end in my opinion now is a little dated, and the thing with the 993 is the interior is extremely dated, 996 c4s or a 997 carrera for me.

355 doesnt have the acceleration or steering feel of the porsche but yeah, tough call if you're in the market and like both cars

@getin348 Nah... The 993 interior is the right interior, the shape of the chairs, and of course the beautiful classic dashboard. These things are as classic as the 911 exterior. I agree that the 993 front end is a bit awkward, but other than that, everything is perfect. I sort of like the 996 very first iteration with amber directionals in front and back, in silver or yellow color it looked stunning. But as soon as they started updating 996, it lost its appeal to me...

I think your find that when Clarkson left in 2000 I think it was, the show went down the toilet rating went down & they decided not to continue

That´s true, but for me as a customer it´s irrelevant how much money they make with their cars, at the end of the day I just care about the product quality they deliver. And this qualitly is worse since Wiedeking took over. If my Service technican tells me "keep this car (993 4S) the new ones are build much much cheaper" things are clear for me. Wiedeking took over when Porsche as nearly bankrupt, Wiedeking goes and Porsche is owned by VW....not much of an achievment in my opinion.

I fully agree with you, but Porsche is going in the wrong direction as far as lineup and looks. I wish they made only sports cars again.

You think 911 is good? It's weight distribution iw 63/37, far from optimal 50/50. It take enormous resources to make a car like drive well. I wish they'd drop it and make a front engined car with a gearbox in the back.

The 993 was, and never will be described as "aweful" And what do you expect? the 993turbo was released in 1993, the 996turbo came around in 1999/2000. Its not like the Porsche R&D just sat around smoking pot for those 6/7 years is it! ! !

LMAO, the 993 is simply awful compared to a 996 Turbo! I'm shopping for a 996 Turbo right now, and I have driven a 993 Turbo of a friend. There's no comparison: the 996 spanks it in every single way.
