    I read lots of comments like "better than Pitbull" "so strong, yeah it can kill you" "Caucasian Vs cougar"..honestly I think that the first reason you got this wonderful dog is because you would truly love him and treat him well. And not because it could kill someone or something. Or show to the world how aggressive and powerful is.

    We've had issues with people breaking into our property. We just got an Ovcharka. (Don't worry, we're experienced dog people with the time, will, and discipline to properly socialize and train such a dog.) A guard/protection dog like this makes me feel so much safer--at least it will when he is no longer a puppy. He's super smart and such an amazing breed!

    It's a common misconception that a more unsocialized and aggressive dog makes a better guard dog. That's not true. A dog that is friendly to friends, family, and guests/visitors who are invited in, and strangers on the street who are posing a threat, will still make just a good guard. The only thing a dog should be aggressive towards is an intruder or someone who is posing a threat to you. A Caucasian shepherd will always make a great guard dog whether socialized or not

    @seiba alter My Ovcharka in question is awesome (I actually have two now). He is extremely well socialized and a A++++++ guard dog. His ADR is on the VERY spicy side. With proper socialization, he knows how to recognize what's truly threatening and what isn't. He has ZERO hesitation to react to things that he finds threatening, so I'm very grateful he is well-balanced. he was a shitload of work, and in the wrong hands he'd be a unmanageable and hazardous. But we've managed to raise him into a bodyguard I can take with me anywhere without worrying he'll freak out over nothing and hurt someone who did nothing to overtly provoke him. My female is quite sweet. Very active with her patrols and alerts to everything. She's a phenomenal property guardian. These dogs have to have a job and an expert handler. I'm very happy with them, definitely worth the enormous amounts of work. I've never seen either of my dogs show fear even in scary situations. They're very confident and happy. But they absolutely take their jobs seriously.

    Mike Hall Luck, luck, and more luck. This is a stupid rare breed, there’s only like 4-500 purebreds in the whole country; make sure you are in contact with licensed breeders and submit applications, and make sure you have enough capital to be able to cover a deposit on a litter when available. Breeders generally tend to know other breeders with this breed, most of them import their breeding stock from Russia, just make sure to check their pedigree. You will have to wait, it took me 5 years. I suggest you get in contact with a breeder named Volkodov, he operates out of Las Vegas, NV. Mind you, this breed is extremely expensive; plan in a minimum of $500 -$1,000 cash deposit, a pedigree is extra and can cost $500-$1,000; depending on pedigree puppies cost between $1,000 to $5,000+. Beware of suspiciously cheap puppies, an average cost should be $2,000. Insurance for them is easily $100 a month, food is easily $100 a week, training depending on your desired level can cost a few $100 to well over $20,000. Finally a warning, don’t get this breed if you don’t know what you’re in for, and can’t invest time into them. They are dangerous.

However the first one i had was fucking crazy, he died at the age of 1 and a half after he got injured trying to climb a fence, a piece of wire got into his neck and he bleed out. By that age he had accomplished his full size, he was enormous and had already attacked 2 people in his lifetime one time he escaped.

    I now have a female Serra Da Estrella Pedigree the black face and fawn colouring is very similar. They are also a large breed Shepard Protection Dog. Beautifully dog, except with other Dogs, it becomes a monster. She is very self confident and independent. If somebody or something comes over the fence, maybe I won’t need to feed her for awhile. I have a male puppy coming in about 10 weeks, he will a step up on the independence and aggression front, the Males require a lot of socialising, to try and bring them down. Beautiful Animals as are the Caucasian Shepherds

    If, and it can happen, the dog decides to go for the neck or face, this could be a fatal situation. With that sort of power and aggression, I recommend a face mask!

    I have a question regarding this breed (And other protection breeds). After protection training can they be docile towards friendly humans or are protection dogs aggressive towards strangers unless commanded to stop?

    @evaflintironstag9356

    Your question is super old, but no one answered. In case you are still wanting to know, this dog doesn't need protection training in order to protect and guard with stunning effectiveness. It comes naturally to them and CANNOT be trained out of them. You can help them hone and focus their protective instincts, but you cannot completely control it. They are especially dangerous because unless trained otherwise, they will generally go for the throat. This is a dog that doesn't attack without cause unless poorly socialized or unbonded to humans (if that's the case, they are extremely unpredictable and dangerous dogs and unsuitable for any home). They DO NOT wait for their humans to tell them to respond to a threat. Once they respond to a threat, good luck getting them to stop. They listen to their own council to make decisions about your protection, not yours. If you were to get one, you'd really want to make sure you work with dog trainers who are familiar with this specific breed and you need to be 100% dedicated to making sure you provide the socialization and structure they need. If they have been brought up correctly, they are calm, loving, sweet dogs who are utterly devoted to their families. Unlike some other guarding or protection breeds, they are low-energy, not prone to anxiousness, and generally very chill. A well-socialized Ovcharka will be friendly toward the strangers that you are friendly to. If you invite someone into your house, they will have no problem with it. But if someone enters your home without your invitation, the Ovcharka will respond quickly. So yes, they can be gentle and wonderful companions when raised right, but they will always be absolute demons when they encounter a threat.
