These are lovely. I love Burda. I made two cowl neck tops and many pencil skirts with s lovely pattern from the magazine that zips up at the side.

I'm glad you made this video. I've recently become obsessed with BurdaStyle patterns and have bought quite a few from the website but have yet to sew one. Lol! I also just recently subscribed to the magazine. I can't wait to try them out! I love your sewing, everything always looks so clean and well made. :)

I'm so exited for you, they are truly great patterns with very consistent sizing and fit. And though the instructions (and the tracing) can feel like hurdles a good sewing book will take the guessing work out of most things, plus the numbers on the patterns shows where which piece go where, so it will make sense once you get started!

Thank you! I think I have to credit Burda for a lot of that great fit, as their sizing is very similar to my own, hence why I seldom venture out to other pattern brands, because I have to spend so much time getting the fit right!

I'm glad that you are such a fan of Burda Style as I got a subscription for Christmas and now I have worked out my sizing I am looking forward to sewing some up.

What a great present! I get a kick just by looking through the magazines and love that they have such a fashion magazine look to them. And I save them all now, because I can go back 10 years and find patterns that I want to make. The patterns also have a very consistent sizing and fit, so after the sizing is figured out and possible alterations it will be a very stress free experience getting good fitting clothes.

Well stress free sizing would be very nice lol I had terrible trouble trying to get a dress bodice to fit me hence why no Little Red Dress from me *sad face*,I am toiling a wrap dress and a princess seam to see if that is better ! I must be a strange shape, I am narrow across the shoulders and back but have big boobs ( f cup) so it can be a bit of a nightmare even with RTW. But we shall keep going till we find a pattern with a good fit then I shall wear only that !!! lol

OMG I loved this video! You are the girl with the grey tank dress! I remember seeing it on Burdastyle Projects page and just loving it! I am currently making that pattern. I also like the flared godet skirt - its a pattern have been wanting to make for a while now but you have inspired me to get cutting with it straight away. I need that twist top in my life - will be picking it up at the next Burda half price sale. Thanks for sharing!

Yes that was me :-) And I'm excited to hear that using that pattern too now, hope you'll find the tank dress as nice as I did. Sewing darts on knit fabric was perhaps not my favorite thing to do, but it does wonder for the shape! And I've seen you make loads of Burdastyle too and they all look fab on you, I'll check out your cowl dress video!

Wow very inspiring and beautiful sewing! That first skirt you showed might actually inspire me to make a skirt (THAT skirt) which hasn't been an idea on my radar for a very long time..... !

Great video! I'm about to sew my first Burda blouse but I'm feeling a bit nervous about it. I remember my mother, who was an experienced seamstress, always steered clear of their patterns, because of complicated instructions and no seam allowance. I do love their designs though. Very en trend!

  • @Thelaststitch

+Savannah Richardson Yes those dreaded seam allowances! Growing up in Sweden we never had any patterns where they were included so I have always had to add them. The instructions are not great but a good sewing book will fill in the blanks and the small numbers on the patterns are also helpful because they show where which piece goes. Most folks I know are pleasantly surprised when they actually make their first Burdastyle patterns because it wasn't as hard as it looked. So good luck with your first foray into Burdastyle!

Happy New Year to you too! I sometimes buy downloadable patterns from Burdastyle if I can no longer get the issue from the library, but most of the time I trace them from the magazine (not a part that I enjoy, but it's so cheap compared to buying the pdf version!)

I often look at the burda books in the bookstore and agree their designs are attractive, but as a newbie I am put off by the patterns. Would you please do a tutorial on how you go about lifting the pattern you want from the tangle of lines. This would be most appreciated.

That is a great topic for a future video! I grew up using these patterns in the 80's so I have done a lot of tracing in my days! Not the part I enjoy the most, but there are ways to make it a little easier. Also having a good sewing book helps when I get confused by the instructions. Also there are little numbers on the pattern pieces that shows where which piece should go, and that helps a lot especially when doing more complicated patterns.
