@@aidtim1350 look at the flash patterns. Wail - slow alternating blink, yelp - faster together blink, horn - stead red. It's as clear as day. I worked along side CHP for 23 years as a cop. I know how their units are set up.

I love how the flash pattern of the lights change with the siren tone!

The pre-2016 PIUs with the synchronized wig-wags have the most effective lighting I've seen on any emergency vehicle. Super clear to see coming from a distance, day or night. The unsynchronized wig-wags on the 2016+ PIUs and Chargers just don't pop the same way.

so basically, if the call is outside of their jurisdiction, they cannot respond to it. if it is in their jurisdiction, and they are responding, they would most likely be behind the highway patrolman.

We are known as emergency buffs, we use our scanner to hear emergency calls and then we sit at an intersection and get the code 3 (lights and sirens)

There was like one officer at the santa cruz office who still drove that crown vic before it got retired, I think he worked on it too.

The wig wag on the CHP cruisers is the best I also love their sirens

Visibility is the reason. A simple lighting setup is also more noticeable and less distracting than other lighting arrangements.

1:12 It looks like the PB Charger's lights are offset. (When the top blue light flashes, instead of both red lights on the right side of the pushbar lighting up, the outside left LED lights up, and the inside right LED lights up, never seen this pattern before, and can't find it anywhere else, if you know anything about this lighting setup, please reply.

I see they stay in their primary jurisdiction pretty well. As expected, most of the streets they're on are Caltrans-owned highways given the all-LED traffic signals, generic non-backlit green street signs, long directional arrows in the road, and generally good condition of the pavement.

Whoever came up with that CHP lighting pattern must have been drunk. I really dig the rear pattern alternating between red/blue and amber, but the front asymetric steady burn and the pattern change on the yelp really triggers my OCD, just like the all steady red/no blue feature they use on traffic stops.

In my opinion yelp/phaser should make the lights speed up in anything. The whole point of changing tones is to grab attention. Changing speed faster helps that goal. But still a retarded pattern set up all together

The flashing pattern light bars are actually more effective in warning and clearing traffic than a constant blur . Each of the patterns is used for a particular situation to gain the attention of motorists and for the safety of the officers .

I’m sad that the CHP isn’t using CrownVics anymore. They’re such beautiful cars😞

California’s “steady-burning red lamp, visible from 500 feet” adds more visibility, especially from a distance. Does the Vehicle Code still require them on every emergency vehicle in the state, or did that get repealed?

CVC25252, all emergency vehicles must display a red steady burning lamp from the front, visible from 1000ft away

They should have Junior Brown singing "Highway Patrol" in the back round.

So in California at least one forward-facing warning light has to shine permanently red (not flashing). Is that unique in the US?

At 9:00 the RUMBLER would come in handy. The officer needs to use the audible siren with the lights and not just the lights to get through traffic. People are looking down at their cell phones, changing the radio station etc. they're really not paying attention. Our units have the "rumbler" system which makes a huge difference in getting through traffic.

This is the best sounding siren I have ever heard and i like the way the Ford explorer and charger and crown Victoria look with the black and white and with all white polar bear look and the chp bike as will with the black and white they all look badass with that look and this siren has to be my favorite siren of all times love the way they sound

Hate the flash pattern, such a waste of the lightbar, red and blue on same time makes a weird purple.. also steady burn red on the front looks like a brake light stuck on. Fire vehicles look good though.

CHP has statewide jurisdiction so they can be anywhere. Most of the calls they are dispatched to are usually accidents

CHP does not use a Priority siren and the only reason they do not is because California has a Vehicle code that only permits certain counties to use Priority's for their emergency Vehicles.

Under California law, when emergency vehicle, like a police vehicle, is sounding a siren and has a lighted lamp with at least one red light, traffic around that vehicle must yield the right of way.

I believe that the white CHP livery indicates they are a supervisor or commercial vehicle enforcement.

Unmarked vehicles indicate that they are a high ranking officer. Polar bears are primary collision factor units, and slicktop and hardtop are normal patrol

No special reason, just whatever the officer decided to drive that day. Unmarked can be any range of CHP, iy can be fatal accident team, investigations, or whatnot. The white/black cars are just whoever wants to drive it that day. Commercial enforcement are the pickups with the white boxes on the back.

Non-CHP units. CHP usually handles all accidents in the county or on interstates. City cops and sheriff won't go to those unless requested.

The State of California requires 1 red light on all emergency vehicles to constantly stay on, back in the day there was a good reason for it but I am not very familiar with California code.

The chargers and the explorers look more intimidating
